By July Marnie Schulenberg (or whatever) should look about 60 years old. I can't stand her or most of those people. But they don't sound like any kind of contract parts, so whatever, no harm done. For now. I shudder to think of Chris Goutman having brought any of these people on. I don't want him anywhere near any executive decisions.

I don't think any of them are new writers' creations. We were told in the latest news item that their solo work shouldn't appear until fall.

I'm not opposed to new people/characters, just as long as they can act.. and are bought in as support for the veterans. I'm wondering if Ron Raines will be a love interest for Dorian and/or Vicki? And if Paolo might eventually be a love interest for Tea or Blair.. or if he is just short-term to resolve the CIA/ Todd/Victor story?

Congrats to Ron, Paolo, and Marnie. I loved Ron and Paolo and grew to like Marnie towards the end of World Turns. I'm perfectly fine with them joining OLTL. My only gripe is with a rich history as OLTL, why didn't they cast them as characters from the past? I feel that in the early stages of this show, fans (preferably old-school) want to reconnect with characters from characters from the past. They're plenty of ways they could've connected these three to the current cast.

It seems only natural to pull from the pool of NY-based soap actors. There are probably plenty of them left. And, yes, they are going to come from ATWT/GL and, of course, OLTL (and the ones from AMC who didn't make the permanent move to LA). I'd rather have actors who have worked in the genre and at least know how it works, than a bunch of green newbies.

Most of the main people on these shows are people who haven't been on soaps before. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but it's just kind of weird to me to act like bringing in a few P&G actors for bit parts is a "gotcha" moment. Besides, it mostly seems to be fans of Venice who act like their show is superior to PP, not vice/versa.

I was just going off that radio interview where they said the show was better than the PP soaps because it doesn't have foul language, etc. I know people say things on a board all the time, I guess I wasn't sure if the people with the radio show had some sort of voice in the industry.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
