You are right. There still exists a stigma to those who are fans of Daytime Soaps, especially if a male were to like Soap Operas.

I agree with Marceline about Soaps viewers being depicted on the low end of the scale and lower on the list. A-List entertainers are fans of the soaps, actors/singers/comedians/ etc.

I think most men don't want to talk about the complexity of the soap because they are afraid on what there peers will think. They may judge them and accuse them of being gay or something.

I have never heard any A-List performer who guest starred on a soap acting on a soap is easy. Every time I hear an interview with someone like Elizabeth Taylor who guest starred they say they have a higher respect about soaps because of the fast-pace. On that note, I always thought Soaps are an extension of the live theater because you either know your lines or you don't and that it is basically one take.

I think the soaps have potential of getting rid of the stigma but it isn't so much of the cliches because every medium has them. I think if more A-listers admitted to the complexity and depth along with the soap fans who only talk about the cliches and compare them to romance novels.

Actually, a lot of soap fans genuinely think they are Romance Novels. Hell, I found someone online selling the old AMC books that came out in the 70s that were based on the storyline and the seller said that "All My Children is based on this series of Romance Novels the shows created Agnes Nixon wrote back in the 60s". I almost went postal!! I have no idea how I prevented myself to writing something awful to that person.

I am still wondering how the stigma actually started.

Well that's just inane, but those books (I have them as well as a later one done for OLTL) were marketed as romance novels from romance novel companies... But yes, obviously I agree with you.

I didn't think the Slate article was bad--Willa who wrote it tends to be sorta "cool" ironic in all her pieces, and this was no different--which I do find annoying, and I agree that she seemed to have no clear POV, but it also raised some valid and legit points, i think (albeit, as Vee said, nothing really new.)

Starting Monday 8/5, OWN will be airing AMC and OLTL only once each per day. AMC will air at 1pm and OLTL at 1:30pm Mon-Thu.

Is it true that OWN is only going to air 1 episode starting next week 5 August at 1:00 for AMC and 1:30 for OLTL? Are they testing against the regular Soaps already on network television to see what the numbers would be? Tracking methods? Are they going to do away with the repeats?

Yes cayse the repeats get bad ratings. The highest rated episode are the new ones

It's idiotic that OWN or anyone thought so many repeats in a week would do well.

This is the only thing that makes sense. They need to air them in one block during the day, then have a late-night repeat around 10 or 11pm. Another option is a weekend marathon. It's simple. I don't know why the OWN schedulers are making it so hard.

The tabloid magazine Globe is also reporting that there are behind the scenes activity going on to bring back Susan Lucci and singling out Debbi Morgan and Julia Barr the one's who don't want this to happen. Fingerpointing Debbi and Julia is just terrible. Moving the show to Atlanta to accommodate Susan return. This article is from the August 12 issue and is on page 5. Saying Debbi and Julia are in turmoil about Susan's return to SAVE AMC. This is all starting to get real ugly and does not help at all with these changes going on right now. Roger Hitts wrote this article. Talks about the actors currently on the show "would rather fail on its own than succeed because Susan came riding in to save the day". I don't know if it is a set-up to say that if AMC were to fail and not succeed the Soap Press and media in general would say it is because actresses on the show, Debbi and Julia could not accept Susan back into the fold. Why are these types of things starting to happen?

What exactly is really going on behind the scenes? I know that Oprah just loves Susan Lucci and she also loves Darnell and Debbi too. Are there some under the table inner-workings of working out a deal with Susan to encourage Oprah to carry the the show on her network in first run episodes. What is the strategy really going on here? PP springs sudden changes and/or announcements all the time so what really is going on?

The Soap Press has slowed down some of there coverage and single out the negative more than the positive or so it seems. Just upsetting.
