From what I heard, losing that accent was the best thing they did for his character.

I remember reading one of the soap mags (most likely "Episodes") back then that questioned Mac losing his accent and JJY said that the producers told him that Mac would've assimilated to American culture by then which is the reason he would lose his accent.

What sort of accent did Mac have?
