Jeva fans v. RnJ fans (GL): People on many boards (preferably SOC) were livid when Reva and Josh ended together; however, I wasn't.tongue.png

Again at SOC, Tangeline v. TnB fans. It got heated, but wasn't that bad.

JessTonio v. Jash fans.

Hart/Dinah v. Hart/Cassie

Paul/Meg v. Paul/Ro v. Paul/Emily

Jack/Carly v. Craig/Carly

Georgie/Dillon v. Lulu/Dillon

Wow! That's unbelievable and truly heinous!

Yes and people wonder why people think soap fans are a bunch of pyscho, overweight, middle aged women living in the backwoods of Mississippi.

I've always wondered if there were any big DAYS couple wars. I haven't heard of that many.

I can't speak about the Reilly era and everything afterward -- although, dragonflies makes an excellent point about EJami vs. Lumi -- but it seems as if couples on '80's DAYS by-and-large weren't designed that way. Whatever outside obstacles a certain couple faced, it was usually something, or someone, that was universally loathed. Unless there were some Bo/Megan fans roaming about?

Have we mentioned "Crassiebella" yet? I hate to mention this without reading all the posts first, but...

One fan of Danny and Michelle (GUIDING LIGHT) was so upset about Danny's pairing with Cassie (Laura Wright) that he/she/forget who created a Big Bird-like voodoo doll that was supposed to represent Cassie/LW. According to one, much-talked-about story, Paul Anthony Stewart, who portrayed Danny, was shown the doll at a fan event and was, understandably, horrified.

And can you believe, too, the bitch who made that doll had the nerve to go on the Internet and brag about it?

I mentioned that. Thanks for the extra details. I didn't know it had been shown to PAS. I knew there was a doll.

Villy fans vs sane people

I remember some Villy fans spreading rumors that BM and AH were having an affair.

As for that ass cake, I hope they didn't eat it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Passions shipping wars were crazy.

I often wonder about what would've happened to some iconic soap stories if internet shipping had been around. I have this horrible image of a hellish Jesse/Jenny/Greg/Angie quad complete with fan vids, message boards and death threats for everyone.

Forget those four, marceline. Liza was their sole, common obstacle, and I'm willing to bet money that no one wanted a Greg/Liza or Jesse/Liza pairing.

But imagine if Phil/Tara/Chuck had been around in the Internet age. Of course, as it turned out, I think it got to a point where very few even gave a damn anymore about who Tara ended up with.

I remember Jack and Julia versus Carjack. But the writers just had to throw her under the bus then kill her off. That was when ATWT was interesting. Alot of the stan wars stem from daytime fans loving a certain actor and follow him/her from soap to soap. Noticed that when SN and GF came to Y&R...then all of a sudden Tucker and GenV were soul mates. Eh! Where is the history supporting that. And no amount of MAB's backstory could make it so especially when Tucker had made all these statements to Ashley...but I am veering off course.

If anyone was thrown under the bus I'd say it was Jack - viewers were asked to laugh at his rape. I think they mostly gave up the story to try to make Annie Parisse a star. Bleh.

There are a lot of fan wars over stuff like Vampire Diaries ("Delena" vs. "Stelena") and Supernatural ("Destiel" vs "Wincest" and "Sam girls" vs "Dean girls" - to the point where any article about the show soon becomes flooded with enraged, vitriolic comments, some fans tried to get Misha Collins, the actor who plays Castiel, fired with a "We Hate Misha Collins Day"). Walking Dead seems to have some sort of constant "Caryl" (Carol/Darryl) fan war on tumblr, namely some of their fans fighting with everyone else.

Sometimes I think this stuff started from soaps and spread to all other areas of TV and other times I think it's been there all along but the Internet has made it explode.

It's not just TV, it's also teen musical groups and artist too. Beliebers, One DIrection fans, Big Time Rush fans, Taylor Swift fans.

That's really not the point. The point was it was a weird fanbase strategy designed solely to keep her posted with every possible leading man regardless of story, chemistry or whether it made any sense. It was like their cracked-out version of fantasy football. And at that time, DF/Cristian was considered a leading man on the show. He just wasn't as "big" as Michael Easton, so the nuttier Van fans turned on him like Donald Sutherland at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I mean, if you're her agent, great, but how does that help a character looking for a real identity on the show to just throw her at any guy based solely on his episode count?

In the end, IMO, that fan intra-warring was at least a small part of what cost Evangeline her place on the show. The fanbases were so split and divided, warring amongst themselves, and the show kept reacting too much to all the discordant feedback; they had no throughline for her character and no clue where to go. REG, to her credit, seemed to realize she had a good pairing that was being tossed away, but she didn't have a hand in the creative process. I think part of it is that they'd never truly developed Evangeline as anyone beyond a stock heroine and Dena Higley's avatar, IMO - she was all things to all people, perfect, and whenever Renee would speak up and suggest more layers and shadings to the character, that never materialized onscreen. I always thought she was a lot better when she had something a little spicy to play. But she almost never did after her first year or so on the show. I was beyond thrilled when that role was announced in 2003 and I thought she could do all sorts of things, but the character just never clicked into place for me.

And it's Timothy D. Stickney.

You are right about Timothy Stickney's middle name but that still doesn't change what he said happy.png ...but blaming REG fans for wanting for her what other fan bases want for their faves is a little odd. Don't you think? But then I do remember the Joliers saying that REG fans pushing for her to be a lead and not accepting her as less than Natalie (their words, "them not knowing her place") is why TPTB chose not to deal with her and not push to renew her contract. That always seemed a little too Rosa Parks and Jim Crow-ish to me so I always chalked it up to typical Jolie priviledged nonsensical speek becaue certainly TPTB at ABCD and OLTL didn't think that about any character. But maybe it does have some validity, I see you seem to think so. You never know. I do admit to thinking the your claim odd that TPTB didn't want to be bothered with having a popular actress and character on the show. Isn't that what they all strive to create. Isn't that what helps increase the ratings.

I heard Muhney used to write fanfic for his Veronica Mars character.

I am sure a bigger Gary Stu was never penned...LOL.

I once tried to explain to an offliner friend who was going to a soap event with me about fanwars. He just kept saying, "But that's crazy!" while I laughed and said, "I know." He ended up taking notes on a cocktail napkin while I laid out the various fan bases and their names. He was surprised when I started calling him by his fanbase "label." (Me: "You're a TnBer, a Craver and a Crisalie" Him: "What the !@#$%^&*] does THAT mean?")

Admit it: you are so Awkward Black Girl. ;)

To my regret, I never watched Passions so I wouldn't know.

Now I get what y'all are saying re: Greg/Jenny/Jesse/Angie. Yeah, that would have been a shitstorm on the 'net. No lie.

I seem to recall some of the Kate/John/Marlena stuff at DAYS being absolutely apeshit crazy, and egged on by the performers.

Speaking of DAYS, just imagine for a moment what the Doug/Julie/Addie triangle would have been like in the hands of cyber-fans. You think certain people went nuts with all the accusations of racism in the JoVan/Jolie wars? Imagine all the calls AARP might have fielded from angry Doug/Addie fans.
