HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

In all fairness, how much work did Susan, Richard Hatch and the innumerable Chucks have under their belt in 1970? And look at Karen Lynn Gorney, who was the lead heroine as Tara - just look at those old clips of her. Oy.

Before the Internet, soap fandom was not this much of a closed, self-perpetuating cycle where if we don't know the actors from before they must be worthless. The soaps have cast untold numbers of models and novices since the '50s or '60s, and it all worked out in the end. This is what AMC is built on, and I could hardly scorn it.

I still remember people giving Abigail Spencer [!@#$%^&*] too, when she played Agnes Heroine #120 Becca Tyree on AMC in their teen revival in 1999. She was fine, but not exciting; it was the writing that failed her and let the flashier parts of Leo and Greenlee take center stage. Today she's a fine, upstanding character actress with a lot of great credits. Nobody would have called that then. But I liked her anyway.

People need to just remember that people get their starts somewhere. Susan Lucci definitely comes to mind.

When someone is being promoted for their looks already (the Price is Right model! the shirtless pics!), it doesn't give me confidence they were cast for the right reasons.

AMC doesn't need to be the training ground for an all-newbie younger cast. It could have done its best to get back at least some of its younger cast. Stephanie Gatschet was never approached. It was a choice to wipe the slate clean.

But you're right, I'll wait until the show starts and give him a chance.

Errol,

Any confrimation of Jennifer Bassey on your side other than Jill Larson who confirmed her return on facebook?

Oh, and shall we assume you have no scoop waiting for us on a new Matthew Buchanan, Errol?

Richard Hatch, Debbi Morgan, Darnell Williams, Laurence Lau, Kim Delaney, Abigail Spencer, Kelly Ripa, Jesse McCartney, Josh Duhamel, Rebecca Budig, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Eden Riegel, Susan Lucci, and a great many others would doubtlessly disagree.

It's an interesting turn of events when Days of Our Lives is the show with the good younger actors, none of whom have the generic soap hunk look, like Blake Berris and Chandler Massey, Casey Deidrick, Wayne Owens, and Freddie Smith -- while AMC is muscley himbo model land.

One guy like that is casted and now AMC is "muscley himbo model land"?

It didn't help Abigail that she kept telling people she got her job because of Kathie Lee.

Please ready yourself for my 5000-tweet retribution.

That's a story I didn't know.

I agree Vee.

Nobody knows how this guy might work, or not work. He shouldnt be written off just because he is not a master thespian, as most actors hired to a soap or not. Perhaps they saw something in him, or he clicked with his screen partner, or they just wanted some man candy and dont plan on giving him anything heavy to play. People just need to calm down and give him a shot, as he has nothing to form an opinion from one way or the other.

But Eden Riegel was hired for her looks?... im just sayin.. really?

I remember people roasting the Leo casting over the fire on USENET. Extraneous character! Lame teens! Little did we know.

Okay, Errol, what if I assumed that Matthew is not being played by a P&G actor from one of their soaps that has been cancelled in the last three years? (Counting 2013)

One thing I can confirm at the moment....full AMC cast list will be released today by Prospect Park. No more who is joining the show discussion/q&a smile.png

Does that include recurring players? Alicia Minshew and others have made a little noise about future appearances.
