HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

Meanwhile, Sylvester should know better than to describe a Black girl in his story as "sassy."

I will grant you that McTavish kept the stories moving, even if they were mainly sh-t. I see her as similar to Ron C in that respect. I hope they don't go anywhere near her because she does need to be worked with either by Agnes or a strong producer, imo.

Her last two years at the show were pretty much a mess (as well as other eras she's given), but I do think she helps give the show at its best, even with all her darkness, some sense of heart and community which I find lacking in RC's writing. For all her love of rape, she also usually plays it as high tragedy, unlike RC's comic highjinks, which sits with me better. And I think her pacing is much more consistant than Ron--Ron at his best has REALLY great ending moments to stories--when everything comes together you usually have a week of strong episodes there--but he isn't too far removed from JER in how he paces his stories (albeit much quicker)--he sets something up, then has a middle where they basically rinse and repeat the same scene over and over until the big reveal--in her best years (usually when guided by a strong EP or consultant), McTavish really did a good job at playing all the beats of a story.

To help with his drug addiction, Jack starts becoming a gay hustler on the mean streets of Angel Square

But I admit, I do like if this leaked info says the stories will have a focus on topicality and not the more recent trend of soaps sorta being campy homages to what people think soap operas are about.

I do, too. If PP were to bring back ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE just to tell the same kind of far-fetched stories that got them cancelled in the first place, then what would have been the point?

Ugh So Destiny will be the resident ho?

They wouldn't dare give a storyline like this to Dani or Starr.

Honestly what will be left of Destiny's character after this story? Where could they possibly go with her other than her losing Drew and getting written off?

I'm so disappointed that THIS is what PP had in mind for her character. I rather they stayed like ABC and kept minorities as window dressing. Bringing black characters on and having them play prostitutes and drug addicts is not riveting television. It's played out.

Sounds like the next epi of the Steve Wilkos Show.

No, Natalie will return, so it's all good.

I do love the one response that said it's no different than Kevin supporting Chloe on Y&R when Delia is an Abbott. On what version of Y&R is Chloe pimping herself out for money?

*hugs Scotty*

I was 12 thru 15 during SMG years but I had seen most of this. I got my first VCR in 1993 and I had Erica/Kendall's storyline, Tad/Dixie (I hardly can remember liking Tad/Dixie now), Marty's rape storyline on tape. I recorded DAYS over most of that sad.png Bad decision pile.

I'm glad somebody is putting up all the videos because all I had is memories and those memories are now almost 20 years old so they're fading.

Did they put up the episode where Erica tackles Dimitri and bitch slaps Kendall following this or was it before this?

I felt bad for Kendall even during this. She'd overhear crappy stuff Erica would say and would over-react just a lil. Maybe more than a lil. I also felt bad for Erica, because Kendall would so often over-react - plus the whole rape story. Kendall only became one dimensional with the evul after they stopped letting SMG and SL have scenes together.

Awww....thanks. :)

I like the OLTL castlist, except for the overwhelming whiteness (yes, I know they've only listed people who were previously on the show and are returning). I have to be honest if it's just an online version of the show, with POC playing second fiddle to the beige brigade I'm not going to watch.

The version of Y&R that is way better than the one that actually makes it to air.

On the one hand, I'm down with stories that steer away from cliche and deal instead with contemporary issues. But on the other hand, I don't want controversy for the sake of controversy, if you know what I mean.

I think people are overreacting a bit to the Destiny story. Granted, these aren't characters I know or care about and I admit it does have a bit of a Jerry Springer vibe to it but in the end it will come down to the acting and the writing. Maybe there's some way to turn it into compelling drama. People are getting worked up, positively and negatively, over what is basically a couple of paragraphs of trashy fanfic.

Or it can turn into a massive wave of misogyny and racism which pretty much brings us back to where we are now.

Still, the people they have signed are in family units and work together, so it's not just a random collection of characters. There is logic there. David and Cara have a baby together, the Castillos are a family; the Hubbards are a family; and the Castillos, Angie, and David are all doctors. Opal can float between all these characters to listen, give advice, and be comic relief or quirky, even if she is not needed as the tentpole for any Kanes, Cortlandts, or any of Tad's kids. The odd one out right now is Zach, but he was working with the Castillos toward the end of the show and he can probably fuflfill some kind of hero role. I'm sure there will be more signings though.

Exactly. I don't understand why people are saying the AMC cast is weak. We've got good actors and characters who have legitimate ties to each other. They just need to build the younger set - whether with originals or recasts - and I'm sure we'll be hearing about that soon enough.

100% agreed. I love how you worded that, jfung!
