Can someone explaine that scene in the bedroom between Shawn and Maya? He kept saying something like "I would never let a kid be raised the way i was." and then it was like she was telling him he was letting her be raised that way. I didn't get it. What was the whole point to that scene. This is disney so i'm sure it's something simple but i just didn't understand.

Ahhh. Makes sense. I can get that.

I swear I don't stop laughing with this show. I'm so so happy Boy Meets World rebooted as Girl Meets World. It's just so good. I'm rewatching some episodes and it's just really hit it's comedic stride. It gels so well and ugh I love it. LOL

THIS is how you reboot a beloved show.

The show made a goof! They had Riley run for 7th grade president BUT she graduated in the finale (which I thought was too soon). I didn't get that.

I liked the Anniversary and glad they did it bc Topanga has been wasted this series. I know its on Disney and for the kids but I wish they would feature the adults more. I think they need to give Corey and Shawn some people their age to interact with on a regular basis. The show can balance this between Riley and her stuff

Saw the holiday episode and was like WTF to seeing Corey having a younger brother just slightly older than Riley. Had no clue there was even another kid in the mix. Why was the mother so shady towards Topanga? I don't recall her ever having issues with her

I thought for sure Shawn would be Maya's father. They seemingly hinted at it but not really. I don't get why they kept trying to establish this connection between them if they aren't father/daughter. It really bothered me in the episode. What also bothered me was Corey. He came across so annoying how he was salivating over Shawn. I didn't think it was funny.

Really? You don't get why even the show was dropping anvils. They were teasing it without actually going there. I can see why one would easily think that

I've know people are seeing what they WANT to happen. Like someone said in this thread, people can be alike and not be related. Shawn is going to be like a father figure to her

Yes this show is very good. Cheap you didn't know Amy & Alan had a kid in 1999?

One thing that puzzled me about Friday's episode, they made it seem like Maya didn't know who Joshua was, but then Joshua said she grew up nicely. So did they meet before or not? LOL

Nope

Maya knew who he was. Josh made that comment about how its been a while (since they've seen each other) and she responded "sure has". I took that to mean that the last time they saw each other was pre-puberty. Both have changed and she is interested in him now. I think their dialogue with Riley was more to clue the audience in on the relationships which is why Riley explained it. It sure helped me

I could have sworn graduation was brought up in an episode and they had an end of the year ceremony where awards were given out to the students

LOL. No they weren't. It's just people making assumptions, or wanting that. It was always, to me, stritctly a comparison between the two. They're meant to be similar. Shawn would never abandon his kid, which they had him say in the Christmas episode. Maya is the "new Shawn". That's why they established a connection between them. Maya's mother isn't around much and they're meant to have a similar relationship like Chet and Shawn did, although I think Maya and her mother's is a bit better.

Amy always spoke out at times against Topanga and Cory. Not in a bad way but she had her opinions about them. And the gist of it was that Amy felt left out because Christmas was at Cory and Topanga's. They didn't beat us over the head with that but Topanga made Amy's butternut squash soup and they had that tender moment that explained this. Not trying to be smart but are we watching the same show? LOL

I actually think they do a good job balancing the adults and the kids. Did you watch the episode that had Topanga remember her hippy self? That was a great episode for her. I admit they could do more with her but it's not that bad. It's meant to be a show about Riley, like Boy Meets World was about Cory at that age. It just happens that we "know" Cory and Topanga. I think it will be a lot more balanced and I appreciate what we get because the show could have become very Disneyfied (which I was afraid of).

Um, and Joshua was born on the show. He was a baby and is the right age. He'd be about 17/18. Why were you surprised? However I admit when the show was first announced I *completely* forgot about him.

Cory and Shawn always had that kind of relationship.

+1

But I felt it came across that Maya knew who Josh was just not how much he had grown up, like him with her. I don't know. I do feel they sometimes "leave out" a few lines that could help explain things. The only thing that bothers me is that the episode flies by and it's too quick cut.

If they are right, Riley just turned 13 in december. Meaning she was born in 2001. But if she was born a month early, that means Topanga could have known and didn't tell anyone right when the show ended in May 2000 and she could have only been a month pregnant or less.

ALthough it's funny that Amy said in the final "Don't you dear get Topanga pregnant." and of course Eric said, "I won't." LOL But her saying that with Topanga probably secretly pregnant.

    • A black family having a white maid would be a good subversion of stereotypes. Also want to say that while the overall show has many flaws, the biggest one that's legitimately stifling is the lack of a rival family.
    • I also do not like the bits I've seen with Delia during Labine's 83 return. I am glad when she came back for the last time in 1986, she allowed Delia to move on from Frank.
    • Thanks for the well-detailed reply. I'm fairly early in my viewing, so I have some time before it goes nuts. Thanks a lot! @kalbir and @DRW50 thank you so much. I am just approaching 100 episodes, so I'm good for now.
    • The Duprees as the main family isn't the problem, but the fact is that over 3/4 of the cast are Duprees.. so it limits coupling potential and also keeps the canvas too closed in. Too many female Duprees and no hetero, nor gay, male Duprees is also a problem.   I also agree with @DemetriKanethat the male characters are one note, and not very layered/interesting... outside of Bill, that is. To me, I would have focused on either Nicole's family and dynamics or Dani's family and dynamics instead of trying to introduce/develop both families at the same time.  Nicole's family is more developed and interesting with loads of storyline possiblities then Dani's family right now. And because MVJ and co decided to feature so many Duprees... we're less likely to be free of any outside characters like Ashley/Derek since they're the non-Dupree part of the canvas.

    • I can not see Kat as a police officer and do not want that for her. Thats not her passion nor does she care about that stuff. The stuff with Eva and Leslie is specific to her life and wanting to protect her family. Her "detective" skills have more to do with her business background, which makes her very analytical and pay close attention to details. If this show had a corporation, she'd make a shrewed businesswoman and CEO I definitely dont want to see her sleep with her cousin's husband. That would be too much of a Hayley redux which ironically you dont want with the Sharon/Hayley theory
    • I would make Jan, Ashley's mom, Anita and Vernon's maid. It would lock in to why Leslie would choose to befriend both her and Mona. It also gives Ashley a connection to the Duprees and explains how she befriended Naomi. I would have had Derek start the show as a cop to explain his connection to Jacob. Kat needs to realize that she is MADE to be a detective. Have her go through police training, making the appropriate comments about the uniform along the way. Have her prove she is so much more than a rich princess, even to herself. Then, when Jacob's partner is proven to be dirty, Kat is assigned as Jacob's rookie trainee. At the same time, Naomi does finally get a case she can follow through on. Her client is a person that Jacob arrested. This puts them at odds because Jacob knows this person did it, as does Kat, but Naomi only sees the extenuating circumstances and believes he deserves a lighter sentence and a second chance. THAT is when Jacob will turn to Kat in frustration and she will lose her virginity to him.
    • This opened my eyes and appeals to my logic. But, don't you also think that the fact that they are so ill-suited means that, by soap-opera-laws, they aren't a long term item?  I like how Belle is written now, so I appreciate the fact that she is in this story.  But, I don't believe anything will become of it, and I think EJ is going to mess it up very soon.  Which explains why I don't get too worked up over it. I'm also suspending my outrage until I see how EJ treats Belle during her mourning.  If he cheats with Cat, then we'll know that he was never meant to be happy.
    • Kristen also raped John post-Paris with a Magic Mirror.  Her pregnancy was "delicate" and they couldn't be intimate.  She had already lost the baby, needed to get pregnant immediately again and set a Stefano tricked out Magic Mirror to hypnotize John and John thought he was  having sex with Marlena.  John woke up the next day and thought it was a dream.
    • The show is only a few months in and still finding it's footing. I'm hoping MVJ has years of story in place for these characters and will pretty much stick to that plan (obviously with tweaking along the way) I do have some issues with the initial structure. Making the Duprees the centerpiece and not having a male with that name. Making Martin Vernon and Anita's would have solved that and made the age of the character more appropriate. I agree about not having a young couple in the beginnings of a romance. And having too many married couples. Jacob and Naomi could be just living together. That makes the possibility of other relationships more viable than within a marriage. Same with Smitty/Martin. Having them married with kids limits the story especially in terms of them as a gay couple.  The white characters existing in another universe is also a problem. That ties in with the workplace/job issues. I don't think they needed the hospital-instead the police station/real estate office or Martin's workplace could have utilized and have Derek/Ashley/Vanessa/Smitty/Shanice etc working and interacting there. ATM too many characters are meeting up in cafes etc-we're not seeing them at work. We needed to see more of how various characters interact eg Jacob/Bill, Ted/Bill. There were a lot of extended family scenes but there should be more one on one to get a sense of character and family dynamics. Leslie is a great character but her bag of tricks is getting over exposed. I would hate that she is kept on and other character's made to look like idiots by accepting her presence. They'll need some good writing and twists to keep her around. We can only hope some of the lesser actors improve as I don't want too many recasts or writeouts. So it's early days and I look forward to seeing the show evolve. And give the Duprees some staff!
