Members frequentsoapfan
AMC's end was the kind of campy crap I didn't expect fro mthem. The only return from that reunion mess that I cared about was Stuart.
Members JaneAusten
AMC was dreadful for years. The show has always had a touch of camp. This idea that AMC was just some big PSA for years is false. This is a show that had the glamorama, Opal, Langley, Phoebe, Myrtle, some of the most endearing offbeat characters and with them engaged in camp. But their camp had warmth and heart. And barring the Orpheus stuff, that's how AMC ended for me. The sense of warmth and community and the small town feel and yes even those offbeat characters like Opal were restored and enjoyable again to an extent. And I thought a lot of the named returns were a sweet testament to how much these actors loved and respected Agnes and vice versa.Valentini and Carlivati didn't even have the guts to end the show as they should of with the main 2 matriarchs reconnecting because they canned Robin Strasser months before to focus on what. Endless Rex, Gigi and a dragged out murder mystery than was on rinse and repeat for months
Members marceline
I think part of the difference is that AMC still had most of its families (Martins, Hubbards, Kane/Montgomerys, Chandlers) relatively intact. OTOH, Ron revels in destroying family ties and creating insta families (See: Rex, David, and every baby born under his tenure). Family, friendship and community mean nothing to him. AMC tended to add lots of new family members (Maya, Marissa, Damon...) but they didn't put as much energy into destroying existing ties as OLTL did. (Dani, Cole...) Which makes me feel bad for the GH fans again because Ron will do his level best to destroy every existing family tie the show has.
Members ellabelle
Veering WAY off topic here, but Project Orpheus was stupid and made no sense at all. It would have made a lot more sense if Zach had known his casino partners were out to get him, so he faked his death to protect Kendall and the boys and only came back when it was safe. I'll buy that *maybe* David could have been in the right place at the right time to save Stuart. Dixie's return was just DUMB. David wasn't even in the US when Dixie ate poisoned pancakes, so it's not like he was around to "save" her. We SAW Dixie as an angel welcoming Palmer into heaven... does that mean David has Palmer in some secret lab too??? I never understood the love for Dixie, and she should have stayed dead. Cara and Tad were making headway as a decent couple, and Tad was willing to let Dixie go. Besides, the implication that Dixie was somehow being held in a room adjacent to the prison where Jane had Erica stashed made no sense AT ALL - David knew where Dixie was, but when he realized Jane wasn't Erica, he was visibly stunned, and he demanded to know where Erica was and what Jane had done with her. Grrrr.... I'm willing to suspend a little disbelief, but AMC took it WAY over the top in the final months. I also cringed at the way that Kendall, Bianca and Jack seemed to imply that Erica was "abandoning" her family to make her film because I felt like it too closely paralleled Eric Kane ditching Erica and Mona to make movies. Erica was a lot of things, but she was NOT the sadistic and neglectful monster that her father was. But other than that... I've come to peace with the way AMC ended. The show was so dreadfully bad from about mid-2007 on, and LB and AN didn't get a lot of time to fix the damage that had been done in the preceding years. Members frequentsoapfan
It contradicted the cliffhanger too because it really doesn't mtter which one of them JR shot unless it was David!
Members JaneAusten
The families on GH were destroyed long ago. The Quartrrmaines, Spencers, Scorpios as family units are non existant. All that exists is Sonny and his family same as OLTL became all about Todd and his families.
Members VirginiaHamilton
Not that I blame them because that AMC finale was bullsh!t. I'm with you in preferring OLTL's finale, as I found it to be more upbeat than AMC's sh!t-on-JR fest. While I can't say that I tolerate Hater Yellgado (even I, as an OLTLer, have my limits), the rest of the characters are a breath of fresh air compared to the caca that I had to wade through last year. And you're absolutely right about Ron depicting Jasus as the roided goiter that he truly is, instead of the angel of earth that the hack that preceded Ron insisted that he be at the expense of other (superior) characters. As far as I'm concerned, it is long overdue.
Members EnglishTea
I preferred AMC's finale because AN/LB somehow managed to restore some of the community/family feeling of Pine Valley that I enjoyed growing up. I didn't care for all the returns from the dead, but given the limited amount of time, and the constant changes - the finale was the result of five revisions - what they accomplished on screen is fairly amazing. I watched OLTL throughout the years, but I didn't particularly care for FV/RC's vision of the show, and even without the possible jump online, I don't know if I would have cared for how it wrapped up. Just like GH - I think it is better than it has been in years, but I still don't care for FV/RC's version of Port Charles.
Members RomeAt50
If the JR cliffhanger didn't happen then the finale would have had a lot more of a sense of closure and I probably would have been satisfied with it. I know they wanted to leave things open enough for the web but it was enough that they didn't do the flashforwards they had originally planned. Unless you show what happens in the future there is always a way to add complications or start a new story. The cliffhanger wasn't needed and it was stupid to do it when the pick up still wasn't guaranteed. Members EnglishTea
The latest rumor on another board (should be taken with a huge grain of salt) is that GH will have a last airdate of Jan. 18th unless the rating rise.
Members ChitHappens
I believe I posted a few months ago that the brass intends to have GH off the air come January 4th. I still believe my source is right on the money. And at this point, ratings are irrelevant. ABC is done with soaps, which is why they are back-dooring GH. Leaving GH at 3pm and putting GMAITA on at 2 solidifies that GH is not long for this world. If anyone but Cartooni were writing this show, I'd be devastated! However, because they are, and I'm not wild about anything currently going on, and I don't enjoy their interpretation of the characters, I don't give 2 chits! Let the chips fall where they may! Members Eric83
Yeah they said GH will be over in January. And GMIA will launch January 21 live from DC (I guess for inauguration of whoever wins election) and the only thing that will save it is if it performs significantly better than The Chew, and The Chew will be moved onto syndication. Honestly GH fans should prepare for the January ending.

Members Eric83
It was an insider on DD. I'm not trying to imply it is factual, but let's be real it will be over in January if GMIA does well.
Members theherowithin
The soaps have fed on their own past for 25 years without fresh characters or concepts and that is suicide. It's insulting how insular they've become. Nothing speaks to us or grows out of the current actions or storylines of the characters but rather everything grows from actions that occurred from the past. Soaps now cater to a small amount of people when if they would get motivated and get busy writing something decent that's entertaining thousands would return. Soaps need new blood in the writing and other areas.
