GH: Discussion for the Month of May

I have never been able to enjoy Y&R the show killed off Cassie to justify her "father" rutting with the ugliest woman in town. The only reason for Jake's death was to get him out of the way so his exalted father's whore could be in possession of the only heir.

Those are two examples of the most jaded writing. Killing a child should never be done to drive an agenda. That was the real horror of Jake's death, not the death itself or the blame game around it.

I don't see how the 2 deaths are similar. Cassie was actually a real character on the show and played an integral part of Nick and Sharons relationship and she had real relationships outside of Nick and Sharon with Victoria, Daniel, Lily and others and killing her off created and drove the show and story for a multitude of characters not just Nick Sharon and Phyllis. I honestly don't think they ever did it intending to permanently separate Shick. They were Bill Bells golden couple. But then Y&R never used to be a couples soap like GH and Days were at least not until the last few years. I just think things evolved and Phick took off and they decided to go with it. But I like her death in way is still honored by the show and her death and the scenes around it were beautifully done and filled with emotion and sadness. Josh morrow was terrific and that's not something most can say about him that often. In retrospect was it a good idea. Probably not.

The road to Jake's conception was a complete carnage fest filled with character assassinations left and right in order to make his existence possible. It's rather fitting that his death would wind up doing the same thing for other characters.

Jake's death served numerous purposes for various characters. The first of which was to start the redemption of Liz after she spent a quarter of the year rutting in Nikolas' castle with the dark prince. By having Jake die it opened up stories for Liz because Lucky was forced into forgiving her and becoming closer to her afterwards, so they could be "friends". It also threw Luke into a spiral of depression and gave Geary what he wanted by having dark Luke become evil incarnate, it also gave LW's Carly the ability to become front and center yet again with her child of the year and lastly it was used to make us feel sorry for poor borg Jason for losing his only son. Ultimately Jake's death was just like every other one. It was used to verify to viewers that it's not the mob's fault. It wasn't the mob life that killed Jake it was every day life circumstances that killed Jake. It's not dangerous for the mob to have mobbet's because well a child could die under normal circumstances which is much more horrible then being kidnapped, shot in the head and cut up in a swamp apparently. Basically even though Jason did the noble and right thing his child still died - that absolves him for his crimes because well if he claimed Jake he would have lived. It's the Spencers that are the problem apparently. Cry for him, cry for Jason he was robbed of his son.

Jake's death was done just to do what death is always supposed to do on this show. Its used to make us feel bad for the anointed few in order to white wash their crimes, actions and scrape off the blood that's caked on their hands. Even the mobsters who kill people have feelings, sniff-sniff.

I watched The Sopranos and never got the impression that he was adored by fellow viewers at all. Viewers may have loved the show (namely, the acting and writing), but I never thought that Tony Soprano was beloved by anyone. If anything, that hack Guza saw David Chase's work and tried to (and failed miserably at) jacking that show by completely missing the point of it.

I'll never get tired of that term...

Today's episode was all over the place. In one of the 57 flashbacks per episode, we see Johnny shoot the crap out of Anthony. Cut to Anthony's dead body being used as a prop for wacky hijinks and comedy galore! Guffaw! :D :D

We have Sonny trying to look menacing and evil as he brandishes a weapon while making death threats to none other than Shecky Manning and his oversaturated "witty" banter. Hardy har har! :D :D

Awww... the Falconeri cousins are like sisters now... even though they've done everything but kill each other since Olivia first stepped foot in town.

Watching this show has become a chore.

Even though this Kate/Connie storyline is a little crazy, i'm totally loving Todd bringing up Viki all the time. and that "unauthorized biograhy" of Viki and Jessica's struggling with DID that Kate was reading. (i bet that was written by Alison Perkins behind the scenes.) even in today's episode Todd told Sonny about Viki's use of "a t'all" and also talked about her a little at the end when he told Sonny he blamed Connie not Kate bcause he knew what it was like to hate the alters but not the actual person. As we know in 1995 Todd was met with several of Viki's alters. Jean treated him coldly, Niki hit on him, Tory used him to sabatoge The Bbanner and even ghost Victor told him to get out of the house because he wasn't welcome. but when he met the real Viki, he instantly liked her.

    • Oh wow. After reading your post, I realized that they had "Carl Ivati" in the script AGAIN yesterday June 6.    Eva said she was reading his latest, and Tomas said "Work's been so busy, I haven't had time to get into his new series". Then Eva proceeds to tell him that "the first book is called 'Mercy and Goodness' and it's all about how the couple first met and how they got separated".   She goes on and on about how great it is. And she says she has the book in her hotel room if he wants to borrow it. She says it has twists and turns. And meanwhile Kat is snooping in Eva's room to look for the helmet and gloves, and finds the book and dismisses it as "basic". I saw that whole scene -- but I wasn't paying attention to the name of the author.  And when Tomas said the name, I heard it in his accent so I didn't hear "carlivati".  II was mainly trying to see if the acting had improved with the actor playing Tomas, and I think he has improved somewhat.   I only see it when typed out. So they had several scenes yesterday about a "Carl Ivati" book?  Barf! Well at least Kat had the good sense to dismiss it as "basic". Ron Carlivati wrote the breakdown yesterday!   Featuring himself in it! Addressing to the collective "you" whoever you may be: Some of you, months ago, said Oh Ron is only doing breakdowns.  The story comes from MVJ, so he won't influence things, you said. May 27 started it, with Christopher Dunn breakdown and Lynn Martin script. But they didn't need to continue it June 6 with Carlivati breakdown and Jazmen Darnell Brown script.
    • I was completely lost. But it is wonderful that it exists. I didn't really know Robert Mandan had done soaps...well, besides SOAP.
    • Jack and Jennifer are tired. I just don't care about them when they return. They add nothing to the show.
    • Did they really bring back Jack and Jennifer for Jack to prop up Leo and Jenn to serve as an obstacle to Chad/Cat? Are we sure Ron still isn't in the building?
    • We can only hope that they finally kill off Leo too
    • We can only hope that maybe the new writers might read this.
    • You can get so many storylines from a Will/Sonny/Paul/Andrew/Dimitri mess And I'm sure Colton would do a great job
