GH: Discussion for the Month of May

I mean...when did Molly and TJ start dating? Obviously, based on today's show, they've been secretly meeting each other for a while. It would've been nice to see how their relationship progressed. The last time we saw them together, Molly was pretty mad at him.

Yep. I remember in the 80s, on Y&R Teen Model Cricket would get her big summer storyline that would always culminate in the big Danny Romalatti concert. Days and GH would always send a couple(s) on the run a do a big splashy location shoot. I think ATWT had some kind of a country club where all the teens would hang out.

Has GH even had a teen scene since the days of Jason, AJ, Karen, Jagger and Brenda?

Of course they have. They've had two. First in the late 90s with Lucky, Liz, Sarah, Emily, Nikolas and later Juan and Zander. Next was the early to mid 00s crew with Maxie, Lucas, Georgie, Dillon, Kyle and later Diego, Brook and Lulu. That was the last real attempt at one.

Speaking on teen stories - does anyone remember if the Karen/Jagger/Jason/Robin/Brenda (I'd include AJ, but he was college-aged/a college-grad at the time, I think) storylines started during the summer or during another season? I remember the Lucky/Liz/Sarah/Nikolas/Emily teen stories starting in the summertime, but I hadn't started watching this show until the former was well under way.

I was only 3 in 1992, but in YouTube clips I've seen of Robert & Anna's "death"/funeral, Robin meets Karen shortly before learning what happened to her parents, and she was already crushing on Jason, too (Steve Burton joined the show in December 1991). That was March/April 1992. So there may have been some build up before the summer, but it was the summer where Jagger/Karen/Jason were lost on an island and had to be rescued. Brenda came along in September that year and developed her crush on Jagger then.

They also played a part during the next school year into 1993, since Karen broke up with Jason for Jagger at their Valentine's Day dance.

Robin had at least two teen girlfriends aside from Brenda and Karen that I've seen: her friend in the Robert & Anna are dead clips (I can't remember her name right now), and one played by Christie Clark during the year after DAYS let her go the first time/before they hired her back.

I will admit that I have stayed away during the times when it has only been Starr and John around. I'll always be sentimental (and perhaps a bit TOO sensitive--she just seems so nice in real life!) towards KA/Starr, due to watching her since we BOTH were young kids/preteens, but she definitely has certain material and certain actors whom she works better with.

It was off camera they are dialoging how they've been meeting in secret so I guess her forgiving him is off camera as well. You can't see it because you have to see Konnie/Sonnie/Jason/Sam/John, almost daily. "You two aren't having sex are you." Ummm anvil?

Michael is [!@#$%^&*] delusional hypocrite. I literally wanted to spit in his face. Ugh!

And dang it, I have to give RC & FV total kudos; of the remaining soaps, GH is the only one with an exciting sweeps IMO. And it's by far the most exciting show in general.

    • Roger's return storyline may have been silly but Roger's return was what lead to GL's last golden era.  It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that got GL to finally hit it's stride after some really bad years. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run didn't reflect the quality of the show.
    • He also gave some of the best episodes, like the episodes surrounding Doug's death. The problem with Days was that Ron had a horrible vision from he top. I don't feel the same for MVJ and nothing that has happened in all these months suggests she doesn't have a handle on the show. Now if it becomes an issue I'll acknowledge it, but I'm not seeing it so far.
    • Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked. I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
    • It wasn't just a GL thing, it was an 80s thing. Opulent party scenes on soaps were very big back then. Even in regular episodes where people are just going to dinner they're dressed up like they're going to see royalty.
    • Just started the May 27 episode and first thing I see is that Willow got an ugly haircut since hte last time i watched   I dont have the context for how everthing went down but I know its all Lulu's fault which make her a bish for what she did to Gio
    • I'm pretty sure he was. But point taken. GL really had a thing for masked and costumed balls/parties in the '80's. Everyone looks fabulous, but those poor costume designers.
    • Still here ^^ Come on Prime Video, it's due to bring it back!
    • Got through the eighth season, and it was... painful.

    • I agree 100% with both you and Mitch64.  Soaps have been going further and further off-course since 1981. TPTB just don't have a fundamental understanding of what makes soap fans so loyal. I'd love to be on a writing team with both of you.  Maybe we could put together a real soap opera, and show people what its all about...
    • They weren't in town, but Fletcher worked at the paper (and we saw anniversary Journal headlines for the 50th, although I don't remember if Roger was one of them), and I'd think Alex would have at least heard of him due to the damage he did to Spaulding only a few years before her return to the fold. I know I have to remember it's not real life, of course.
