Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

Though I wasn't alive or old enough to see these tenures, I think I would have preferred Jerome and Bridget Dobson's Guidling Lught over Douglas Marland's.

While I appreciate (and liked a lot of) Marland's tenure from the stuff I've seen, I think there was a certain soul and electricity in the Dobson's work that was lost in the transition.

This is purely going off reading recaps and seeing random episodes from these two tenures though.

I think the Cassadine family shouldn't have been made a regular family on canvas. They needed to stay villains who pop in every few years

That's how I feel about the DiMeras on DAYS.

I think, as saynotoursoap mentioned, a big difference is the younger heroines on the show don't really have any inner life or strength (although I like what I have seen of Morgan when KV was in the role), whereas they did with the Dobsons.

Amelia Heinle is fine as Victoria. She may not be as strong as Heather Tom but she fits the role of Victor and Nikki's ice queen daughter nicely. Unless TPTB are somehow able to get Tom back, I'm fine with Heinle staying on indefinitely.

I'm in love with this post! She's too campy for my taste and plays all her characters the same way. I find her acting to be really bad 80s style.

I agree, I never cared much for her Tina especially when she return playing Tina playing Rebecca Hotchkiss those last two times. I enjoyed Karen Witter as Tina and Maureen McCormick as Rebecca. Tawny i never cared for and I never seen her as Patty Williams.

Same!

As much as I do enjoy AE and did like her on Passions, I preferred the original Rebecca Hotchkiss (a.k.a.: Marcia Brady). Both hated that trifling Theresa as much as I did, but Marcia Brady's version of Gwen's mother had that ice-queen veneer that made me believe that she was not the one to screw with.

I like Michelle Stafford as Phyllis, and though I do agree that there is a whole lot of her on the show, I still like this character's brand of being lost. She is now without a husband and has problems with her kids, and somehow that makes her interesting to me. Plus, the whole Jack/Phyllis dynamic works.

Also, I miss Gloria and Jeff in bigger doses, with funny dialogue like they used to have.

Agreed (except about Jeff). :)

AGREED.

In light of recent GH discussions, I also have to add these SEVERELY unpopular opinions:

i love Kelly Sullivan as Kate and hated Megan Ward.

I don't think the "younger" set is that bad.

I feel like without Billy Warlock in the role, AJ's return is just a little bit lacking.

I agree so much! I feel like soo much happened to and with Billy's AJ, that now that SK is here it just doesn't feel the same.

Not to mention, BW had better chemistry with the other Quartermaines.

You know what might help? Bringing back the actress (forgetting her name) who played Julia Barrett. IIRC, his A.J. and her Julia had a "thing" going for awhile.
