The Madonna Thread

I think it looks very intriguing and promising. While I've enjoyed her recent albums, I also felt there was a certain trend-chasing going on. This feels... relaxed, like she's doing her own thing. I hope so, at least.

The intro video is very intriguing. Lots of great stuff:

Some of the promos from MTV are pretty good. MTV is what is it these days, but it's good to know they will always have respect and reverence for her and how she (and Michael Jackson) basically made the network a success in the first place. She really did put the 'M' in MTV when it mattered to pop music.

Madonna came up with ray of light and music after major changes in her life (motherhood, moving to the UK)....so when she moved to Lisbon..I had a feeling she would be inspired.

It sounds modern, yet also unique and a classit's own its own.  And she actually did a music video with a story!

Madonna still pushing this notion that the world finds her fascinating.

That train left the station years ago..

Madame X... that was dated when Lana Turner did it 50 years ago.

The whole spoken words to God asking for forgiveness...I am a whore etc

Just not working anymore.

I'm having a 90s themed pool party in a few weeks. Which Madonna hit from the 90s should I put on the playlist?

"Take A Bow" was probably her biggest hit of the decade but I don't think it's appropriate for a pool party.

It seems wrong to exclude her, but I don't know if any of her hits from the 90s really fit a pool party -- a lot of her 80s ones definitely do but I'm doing 90s only.

Deeper & Deeper, some of the more house-oriented remixes for Fever, Ray of Light, Human Nature, Vogue? Just throwing out uptempo-ish songs, because she's never really sung about going to the beach or taking a dip in the pool, lol.

The rejected Bedtime Stories track 'Your Honesty" has a cool 90's vibe, if you want to add something more obscure.

She became more of an albums artist in the 90's, so it's a strange decade to pick from (though artistically her most diverse and probably best).

    • I did some research and the story wrapped up with Eric,a caretaker responsible for Georgina's death who then  tried to do away with Laurie but a vision of Georgina spooked him and he smashed into a mirror, dying of glass wounds. So there was a supernatural element.
    • AI has it wrong. David was working as an aide at PV Hospital due to failing to save his brother's life and refusing to continue as a doctor. His true profession was revealed later. Edna had divorced him while he was in Vietnam and he had no reason to be in contact with her. He had no idea that he had a daughter.  Ruth was Ruth Martin, she was still married to Joe, not Jeff. He was not deceiving Ruth as he believed that Edna was his ex. The poisoning story happened late in his run and probably introduced when they knew Gleason was leaving. AI's interpretation of him as conniving seems to based on that short lived poisoning story and other misinformation. For most of 76 he was involved in the Ruth/Joe triangle to the point where Ruth was ready to divorce Joe and leave town. Joe had to have surgery, David operated and Ruth suddenly realized she wanted to stay with Joe despite all the problems they'd been happening. David then got involved with Christina with Jeff and then Edna as complications. And he arrived late 75 not 76.
    • Interesting that they started going into a supernatural direction with ghosts - I don't think they really did that before? I wonder if it was a response to getting put so late in the afternoon and I guess trying to appeal to that former Dark Shadows audience?
    • That makes sense then! Is there a place where you can read more Daytime Serial Newsletters? They sound very informative. Thank you

    • Yep. Access to the Vault works fine but upon downloading attempts an error message pops up.   Maybe it is just a temporary glitch.

    • Downloading isn't working at all.
    • I'm pretty sure this ep is  from Dec 73 From the Daytime Serial Newsletter Ian and Valerie Northcote are deeply concerned over Laurie's  life being increasingly dominated by hallucinations and fantasies about Georgina, the former owner of the house the Reddins recently bought and are now living in. Doreen Post (Linda Purl) was involved in that story .Perhaps she was going to be revealed as Georgina's daughter? Wonder how that story evolved and whether it was wrapped up before cancellation? and thanks to @skylark
