When Looks Matter

Mary Stuart once told a story about the many Patti recasts. She said the previous Patti had been a tall blonde. The Patti who was having her first day was a short redhead. Mary's first line to her was, "Patti? Is that you?" She asked them to please let her change that line, but they wouldn't.

Uh, if the Kari Gibson who keeps showing up in my Google searches is in fact the same Kari Gibson who played Dixie, all I have to say is HOLY [!@#$%^&*]. She has aged WELL.

No way, must be a mistake.

She was a blonde, I believe.

It sounded like a dumb question, but I was a bit thrown because there's a picture of her in the AW coffee table book there's a picture of her with red hair, so knowing how Josie looked later it amused me. But then I saw some of the fan page and was like oh, I guess she was blonde at one point, too! laugh.png Which does, I guess, make the recasts more logical looks wise.

I saw an Alexandra Wilson fan page, where it looked like she had dyed her hair a few times, so maybe her Josie simply had a few different hair colors at that time.

The switch from Andrea Evans to Karen Witter is interesting to me, given that KW is blonde to AE's redheaded look. Granted, I guess some saw Andrea as being more strawberry blonde than redheaded, but it still seems like quite a change to me. Although Karen occasionally looked like she had some red highlights in her hair to me in her photos from that time.

Even though it might have been better to have Jessica off the canvas at one point, I do think Erin Torpey had the right Jessica look for her in her younger years, while Bree Williamson made Jessica look more believable as an adult (pre DID, of course).

I think one of the most seamless transitions as far as recasts go was Eileen Davidson to Brenda Epperson Doumani on Y&R in terms of appearance and acting.

Glynnis O'Connor just never stood out to me as Margo. Not a strong enough actress to fill a vital role.

Bringing back Kimberly Brown as Marah on GL there in 2006 was pretty absurd.

Chris Koticheck coming back to Days as Roman Brady remains pretty jarring as well.

I'm surprised no one has said OLTL's Blair Cramer. Mia Korf to Kassie DePaiva! Blair went from Asian to blonde white girl.

Laura Horton- Days.Floy Dean,Susan Flannery,Susan Oliver and Rosemary Forsyth all had a certain(similar) look.Jamie Lyn Bauer was totally different.

Donna Logan on B&B feels like a completely different character. Not just because Jennifer Gareis looks nothing like her predecessor Carrie Mitchum, but also because the character went through a personality change.

Another Life - the first Lori Davidson had shoulder length brown hair and was younger, but also able to stand up for herself more, able to laugh. The second Lori had short blonde hair, had a matronly appearance, and was often in tears and sorrowful.

What do you think was the reason for Another Life's subsequent failure?

i don't know. There is some talk on that in the Another Life thread. Some would say CBN just lost interest and that killed the show more than anything it did. Others would say the dar Salaam Bible storyline.

I think hers was a "cuter" Dixie. As you said, she was a more believable bumpkin whereas Cady seemed more like a well-educated actress who was for lack of a better phrase dumbing herself down a bit to play the role. I hate how that sounds but that's the best way I can think to describe it at the moment. Not that Kari was dumb.

I only have one real memory and it isn't even visual as much as remembering her voice. I forget what it was, she was in the fountain and Palmer thought she was the nanny while Will was the gardener, something like that, and Palmer found her in the fountain and fired her and then she said "Uncle Pete!" with such a ridiculously thick accent that "Pete" went on longer than "uncle" the way she said it. Did my mother and I laugh at them that day, because it was just so stupid. I don't even know if Will arrived in town wearing shoes. They were literally walking cliches.

SH's Marty on OLTL VS. CC's Marty.

My mom and I were just discussing this one a few minutes ago. Personally I think that the woman playing the CSI (I don't know her name. But, she was in tonight's classic episode with John) Looks more like SH than CC does. Should have been the Marty recast instead. That's JMO.

You should have seen the change from Lesli Kay's Molly to CC's Molly.

I did. Ugh. So odd. I think I stopped watching ATWT after that.

No offense to Chambers. She's a fairly good actress. And, I think she's gorgeous. But, she looks nothing like the people she takes over for.
