RC tended to avoid family relatonships most of the time, unless they were very direct - like what he did to Bo and his relationships with Viki/Jessica/Natalie, for example. If he didn't care about the relationship, he didn't write it. It's one of the reasons many of the characters became difficult to care about, IMO.
