HE NEVER [!@#$%^&*] TELLS US WHAT TO DO WHEN WE DON'T FIND THE RAINBOWS END! sad.png

My friends always hate how analytical I get about lyrics for songs (I guess they can't all be Sondheim) but I *think* the "I'll give you tomorrow" bit is meant to be what you do when you can't find the rainbow's end... Or something.

I watched through the episode where Viki caught Dorian and Joey together. So far I think they did a poor job of showcasing the history of the show. I unfortunately didn't record the 1888 episode so I can't comment on that. Otherwise, I don't think the episodes they picked represented each era well. Karen on the witness stand was actually a great episode, but I'd like to see something else to represent it as well. Maybe early Tina/Viki or Tina/Irene or something focused on Viki or Dorian from than time period. And to skip to 1987 makes absolutely no sense. I think the Buchanan's and Dorian had a lot of good stuff.

Considering ABC wasn't even going to allow OLTL to be featured in 1997's Daytime to Remember, and that they only got two weeks, I was pleased they focused more on the early 80s back then--the baby switch etc--as well as featuring that birth of Kevin episode from the first year of saved episodes. AMC's marathons almost always have some random episode from 1970, surely OLTL could have found one from their first decade.

ETA:

I also meant to say, I thought Krista Terseau was adorable as Tina. I really enjoyed her from what I saw. I liked her a lot more than Karen Witter. I think she had more of the Tina spirit. Witter seemed just so dull and I can't see her being as FUN as Andrea Evans. Both were a huge fail on a physical level though. Didn't look like Tina at all.

Having not seen it yet, I can only imagine they picked an amazing Terseau episode if you feel that way :P She was WRETCHED in the role from what I can remember (I admit I haven't re-watched any episodes with her probably since they aired). Witter was fine IMHO

I don't think Malone cared for Tina. Witter had been there for a year before Malone or Gottlieb and had learned how to turn the role her way, and they also used Tina to prop Cain, and Malone/Gottlieb seemed to love Cain. Once that was over, Tina went to hell. They made her incredibly stupid and irrelevant. Early on she had a scene with Dorian, and Strasser had her for lunch. It was hard to watch.

I would agree that these episodes weren't the best in terms of history, but I don't really care, because those episodes have been shown before. I was very happy they showed two episodes I'd never seen (the falls, and the 1888 saga). I'd seen clips, but not good quality episodes.

Chris you may want to try to find the Daytime to Remember marathon that is on Youtube. That gave a better "feel" for OLTL, and was generally done with love (which is ironic, since they weren't even supposed to be included and were thrown together at the last minute).

re Tina: I really loved Witter in the role. I liked Terseau as well, both better than anything ive seen of Evans in the role actually.

I always feel bad ragging on Tesreau, because I thought she was wonderful on GL. I just disliked her work on OLTL. More than anything I thought it was a horrible decision to throw her in with heavyweights like Strasser and Slezak. Add in that many of her scenes were with the always dull Tuc Watkins and I saw little chemistry between Tesreau and John Loprieno, and it didn't do a lot for me.

I would have kept Tina off canvas and brought her in as a Buchanan relative, similar to Mindy on GL.

I need to find somebody who has that! This is stuff that would interest me. A rare 60s episode, something with Carla from any period and stuff like Kevin's birth sound interesting. I also was hoping to see one of the other Dorian's. I'm going to look for the Daytime To Remember marathon on YouTube. There's lots of good OLTL stuff on there I never look at. I prefer dvds. I hate watching stuff on my computer lol. Does anybody know why OLTL wasn't going to be included? Was it exclusively AMC and GH?

Also interesting to hear this about Tesreau lol. I never cared for her on GL (granted I never saw her glory days, just the random returns), but despite dodgy hair, she was just adorable in the episode I saw. I would love to see her in a dramatic scene with Dorian or Viki, but I think she had the sexy, aloof qualities I like in Tina. Not sure I can picture her scheming though.

The idea was that this would mostly showcase ABC's big two - AMC and GH. I think that the rush decision actually helped with OLTL's choices, because the GH marathon had some dumbass choices, like a random Demi Moore episode, when no one liked Demi Moore on GH in the first place.

Her scheming was very childish and silly - there is one scene I posted recently from a March 1995 episode where she faces off against a lawyer, and it's probably some of Tesreau's better work. The meat of the scene starts at about 18:40

If you want a faceoff with Viki, here are a few

She also confronted Jean (Viki's alter) when "Viki" snapped at the kids, but those clips are very short and out of sync.

Here are some Daytime to Remember episodes.

This is the 1976 episode soon after Viki gave birth to Kevin. Also featuring a rare look at the superstars of the late 60's to mid 70's, Jacquie Courtney and George Reinholt, as well as the one and only Nancy Pinkerton as Dorian.

One of my very favorite soap episodes - Jenny, after learning the truth about baby Mary (about 3 years later), decides to give her daughter back to Katrina Karr.

This clip leads into a 1986 episode, when Clint and Viki are remarried and Viki reveals she is pregnant.

Oh thanks! That looks interesting. Will definitely be checking that out. So I guess there is Nancy Pinkerton stuff and obviously Elaine Princi as Dorian, but what about the second Dorian? Is there anything available from her?

I hated Witter as Tina. Tesreau by comparison I thought was a bit better, but really there is only one Tina to me and that's Andrea Evans -- by far the best! happy.png

I love how everyone always compares these three while ignoring the duds from the early 80s. To me there were only 3 Tinas!
