If anyone ever wants to talk about the South African soaps please leave comments in my threads on Isidingo and Generations :) DaytimeFan if you've ever seen them I'd love to hear your comments.

It was I who raised Helmut Huber's name. There is a reason so few AMC actors signed on and I have no doubt in my mind that the reason is Helmut Huber and Susan Lucci. They knew a joke when they saw one and balked at Prospect Park's ridiculous business model that was about as realistic as a hippopotamus balancing on an ice cube. Jacob Young and Debbi Morgan very likely heeded the advice of Huber and Lucci and bolted to the Bell soaps where at least a paycheque was guaranteed. .

I agree, except didn't Debbi sign before PP actually made their announcement?

Did another soap end on Friday the 13th? I think it was Ryan's Hope, which is even odder as OLTL inherited their bar (which is the bar at Rodi's)...

My guess about JvD is the guy is an optimist, and wasn't trying to mislead anyone. Also it would not be outside the realm of possibility that he knew about the WGA meeting that was mentioned in the other thread. In the statement from the WGA, they said less than two weeks before the project was deemed dead that they had a good meeting and were close to terms. If JVD knew that due to having friends who are writers, his comments would make sense on that level.

It's quite possible that the AMC actors were suspicious of the whole shebang, as most of them didn't sign on (of course, many of them were shell-shocked from ABC's machinations too). We don't really know who in the press or among the actors was suspicious of the enterprise behind the scenes but didn't want to publicly say anything.

I keep going back to that e-mail list Jacob Young mentioned. I think that people compared notes, promises from PP and the information from SuLu/Helmut and came up with "I've got a bad feeling about this." I think they got burned with the move and decided to look out for each other this time. PP responded by "leaking" info to the press designed to smear and pressure them and when the actors, specifically Lucci fought back by telling how PP treated her it sent up the final red flag because her account of having PP go into hiding when she pressured them for a one year commitment matched the experience of the unions (and, I suspect, other actors.)

The OLTL actors had a different situation. First East coast = fewer options. It just does. Plus, it doesn't sound like they had a central figure like Lucci demanding a commitment to the show as a whole. Instead they had FV in PP's management backing up PP's empty promises and the feeling among some that - like Sally Bowles - maybe this time, the "red-headed step child" was finally going to take center stage.

It's a real credit to the OLTL cast, and the few AMC actors who signed up, that they've taken this so well. In an era of Twitter meltdowns I have a lot of respect for actors who keep it together.
