That makes sense @j swift

With Gene Francis supposed to return soon, it has me wondering why there constantly seems to be issues with her staying around long term.

Laura's the most iconic female charachter in GH history but always appears to be in an on and off capacity.

I understand in the 80s, 90s, and 2002 there was some behind the scenes drama that lead to her various departures. I would think the show leadership would try to do better by the charachter and actress that helped put them on the map.

I don't understand it, either. As I've said here more than once, Genie Francis should be to GH what Susan Lucci and Erika Slezak were to AMC and OLTL.

I may be wrong but isn't her current temporary departure the same kind of deal Geary used to have for vacation time?

The big difference is that they obviously didn’t have an actual story for her when she left this time on vacation except being mom/grandma Laura.  Except for a few instances, Geary was always in story and with pre-taping he wasn’t really gone as noticeably as she is this time.  Only a couple of times did his departure really stick out to me back in the day.

Yes, and she never got the sweet vacation deals he did. Wasn't that part of the reason she left in 2002?

She was turning 40, her husband turning 50, it was the summer and she wanted to extend her vacation to be gone the same length of time as Tony during the summer.  JFP told her no, that per her contract she had to give them so much notice to take that much time off.  Geary did not have that clause apparently, or if he did they didn’t enforce it with him.  The same contract allowed her to quit at the end of certain cycles.  So she quit.

It is not fair to say she didn’t have perks- Riche moved her scenes up first so she could always be out early once she had kids, which apparently ruffled some feathers.

She said a big part of why she quit was she always strived for parity with Geary.  So they had similar pay, perks, etc.  And then they would do things with her that they never did to him, like the vacation thing.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't know how much more there was to the story.

It came down to the behind-the-scenes drama, and also to how Laura was being written. She didn't want to be the ingénue people kept writing Laura as.

How would you all describe Brenda Barrett archetype over the years

Brenda to me never lost an inherent need for love.  She can be selfish, and emotional, and also very loyal and determined.  I think her need for love was there right from the beginning, and was the most important part of her relationships with Julia and Sonny.

One of my favorites earlier scenes that could have been a nothing scene happened in Kelly’s- Rhonda runs in looking for Karen after she realized what Ray had done to her.  And Brenda and Ruby share a look, and you could see Brenda thinking and putting the pieces together.

Mark Hamill and Anne Wyndham, who were a real-life couple for a while. She moved to NYC and SFT, and he got the pilot of Eight is Enough and the lead in some sci-fi movie...😉😊

Greetings! 😀 First time poster! I just stumbled onto this behind the scenes video from 1974!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6QJuCXML4w

I wish that we could hear it! The woman seemed really sweet, especially when she was crying at the end!

Can anyone identify all the actors, apart from what appear to be the woman's two children? I recognize Valerie Starrett, Emily McLaughlin, John Beradino, Denise Alexander and Craig Huebing.
