Oh this was the Theme from The Jackie Gleason Show, in all its incarnations. The song was composed by Jackie Gleason and it is a brilliant piece of music

Season 9 theme of Knots Landing was the best. I know most hated it.

Season 3 theme of Falcon Crest was the best

The worst was The Colbys...

Absolutely love the Dallas theme song, it still grabs me and has aged beautifully.

I really loved the Falcon Crest theme, but not for the music at all...but for the EPIC hair toss that Susan Sullivan did year after year. Just perfection.

I also think the Law & Order theme is a classic.

The following P&G soap openings are among my favorites:

ATWT's 1981-93 Opening:

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-vqYeZiwlSc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

AW's 1981-87 Opening:

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/m446umzSExQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

AW's 1987-96 Opening:

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ej0sVysxMpA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

GL's 1985-90 Opening (after the show switched to a rock version of "My Guiding Light"):

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/o3vcWZSA9lM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

(Please note that I'm fully aware that the visuals for the above GL opening changed in the fall of 1986 from an orange background to a blue background. Also, the rock theme's tempo change two times during this period.)

GL's 1991-2002 Opening:

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LO-8rCrJHTw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

SFT's Circa 1974-81 Opening:

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WWVS2-LFLy8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Note that I actually prefer the more uptempo version of the above theme, which was dropped in favor of the slower version in early 1980. Below is a fan made SFT opening that features this uptempo version:
