Given the recent surge in the ratings, OLTL fans have every right to be pissed off at the fact that ABC chose to axe it instead of GH. In playing Devil's Advocate however, GH was ABC's #1 soap back when the initial cancellations were made. (So they obviously kept it.)

There has been some desire/speculation that ABC should "un-cancel" OLTL and axe GH instead. With all due respect, however, this is just totally unrealistic from a business perspective for the following reasons:

*First and formost, the PP deal kills any chance of OLTL taking GH's place as the lone soap on ABC come January 2012.

*Contracts and other commitments ABC has made with Chew, Revolution, and GH almost certainly prevent such a switcheroo from happening (even if the PP deal was never made).

*Even with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, cancelling AMC and GH (while keeping OLTL) would have created such a s#itstorm as to have made the current protests look like a Sunday School picnic in comparasion. Therefore, I still believe that ABC would have chosen to keep GH.

I apologize for coming off as a rude prick, but I merely just wanted to point out the sad truth of the matter is that OLTL will forever be off ABC come January 2012. (Saying this is insulting to most OLTL fans who already have come to terms with this; yet, I still see the occasional pie-in-the-sky fantasies that ABC might reverse its decision and place OLTL back on the air.) While OLTL's ratings surge is too late to save it (from being taken off ABC's lineup), the fact that OLTL could go out as its network's #1 soap would give its fans a moral victory that viewers of AW, GL, ATWT, and AMC certainly did not have.

No one is suggesting they uncancel it. Just that they made a dire error and misjudged what their programming could do and can be with proper care and time. They destroyed their soaps but even in "death" they cripple competition. I am eager for these shows to live on via Prospect Park. They need to get away from the micromanagement of Brian Frons and Disney.
