Well in fairness running the site is part of the whole production. So maybe its all part of the same pot

This is not a government supported or funded entity like PBS or the BBC or Canadian Network is where the government actually supports the running of these networks. If they are out looking for investors for the production of these shows, obviously the government funding does not include that. And it kind of makes sense since they are looking to produce more content. I dont see the US government being an unlimited money train for PP any more than I expect them to give money to NBC to produce their shows.

The ABC soaps haven't been syndicated largely because ABC hasn't tried so it would be a new market, but there IS a market out there. AMC was only launched a couple years ago in Australia and is doing well, so if this ever gets up and running I'm sure they'd want the episodes. OLTL is more of a fresh commodity internationally because if GH and AMC were neglected, I doubt OLTL is being pushed anywhere. Still, the sales to these countries is another easy source of revenue and I'm sure PP will pursue it. They'd also be crazy not to try DVDs or some sort of merchandise for fans to purchase. Maybe they'll bring back a Super Soap Weekend type of thing. My overall point is that there are many ways to make money, they just need enough to get this off the ground.

Also, I'm sure a US cable deal would almost seal the deal.

Actually my Ozzie friendsays AMC was pulled after a year there and it actually got ratings of about "0.0"--to be fair it was on a tiny cable station/

So happy to read Alicia has booked a new role in a film, will be looking forward to seeing her in something new! icon1.gif

Jeez her daughter is adorable. That's such a sweet picture.

A Bollywood movie?! Okay, I'm intrigued. I love Bollywood films so I'll be interested to see what this is.

Big one I got out of it is that EA and KA seem to be moving to LA for pilot season.

Unless they're doing a live-action version of "Super Friends" and EA and KA are playing the Wonder Twins, I doubt they'll have much success.

EA has major chops but his sister does not IMO

On the Mediadomain.com message boards, there is a poster by the name of Rosebud1. This poster recently wrote something (that I have copied below) that almost exactly sums up how I feel:

Nothing should have gone foreward, no press releases or signing of actors, directors or producers should have happened BEFORE secured financing was in place. I'm surprised that anyone signed on without guarantees of financing. I have no problem w/optimism, but I would be cautious about that optimism, tempering it w/the fact that ABC/Disney didn't sell the show to anyone, just the right to continue production & oversee the daily operations. As I've said elsewhere on this subject, in over 45 yrs of experience I haven't seen even community theaters operate so unprofessionally, as to jump the gun before having secured financing for a project. As far as Hollywood finaning goes, most of the Hollywood crowd has little respect or values soap opera, so why would ABC/Disney or anyone else think that THAT would be where the $$ would come from? Why would any professional $$ person/company see this as professional when it is so obviously NOT?! Personally, I think that it is cruel to get the hopes up of loyal fans who obviously WANT more of AMC & OLTL, than it would have been to just say 'this is it'. eom

The only thing I disagree with Rosebud1 on is that I'm not surprised that actors would sign on with PP (despite the fact that there are no guarantees of financing); in this economy, most of them have few other options.

Max, I generally agree with everything in that post except...PP didn't announce anything at first. The news was leaked by the NY Post and IMO, prospect Park has been playing catch-up ever since. Whatever failings they have we can't pretend that PP dropped this info prematurely. They were forced.

Why do I get the feeling if this does go ahead only OLTL will go online with AMC left in the cold.

If it happens, I agree that OLTL will launch first. Valentini is PP's Frons. It's pretty clear to me that his being in charge has been good for getting the OLTL actors to sign. But there's nothing to give the AMC folks any reason to give a [!@#$%^&*]. I don't mind that though. If OLTL is successful that will make it easier to pitch AMC to the actors and if it fails then the pain won't fall on the actors who already moved across the country to "save" their show.

At this point I think it's both or none. If the funds are there for OLTL they may be for AMC as well. Right now it sounds like neither will be made.
