Like some others, I'm extremely skeptical that the resulting online series will be anywhere close to the current shows in quality and budget and cast size. The press release may say they'll keep the same production values and length and cast, but I don't see that happening (Debbie Morgan is already set to go to Y&R). I said a while ago that if the shows went to a cable network, the budget would have to be slashed substantially and many of the cast would not follow, and the shows would be shells of their former selves. I think it's going to be even more so as an online show. They haven't even finalized their funding yet. The cast is no longer under contract come September and I don't see most of them going to a smaller funded online show, especially for an hour show (maybe a cameo on a 15 minute show). And the current production staff and writers are likely under contract to ABC, so I don't see ABC allowing them to work for the online versions. The audience will probably be cut in half, if not more.

And I have a hard enough time sitting to watch an occasional video on Netflix (streaming) or PBS' website; I don't see myself tuning in daily for an online soap, especially if there's a fee involved.

+1

I really don't like watching tv or movies on my computer, never have and I know I never will. I will watch the occassional youtube video or something, but that's different, cause they're a few minutes long.

THiS is what scares me, that we'll get screwed on both finale's. AN already was going to write it like it was continuing on, now this, might really screw us

YOu have to remember not everyone who watches these two shows has access to internet. So I am sure they will get a good ending.

These shows have been a mess for years and years...if this does end badly, then at least we know there was one last attempt. It would be one thing if this were Gordon Russell-era OLTL or the best of Rauch/O'Shea or Gottlieb/Malone/Griffith, or Agnes and Washam at AMC, but they're both, in a lot of ways, limping to the end. At worst, it's just a final goodbye, a failed experiment. At best it could revolutionize the format and the shows.

I think both shows could lose a lot of their cast and be fine.

I'm more concerned about the writing and casting for them when they hit the web. If this is ANOTHER "we'll make it up as we go along" production then they may as well not bother.

True, but not everyone thinks of that ;)

So this is a licensing deal, that ABC will still retain ownership if it tanks by PP? Pretty smart of them. We might still get ABC interference

Another thing, this could still fall through, what if PP can't get the backers they need for this?

Even if the shows bomb I think the shows could add a bit of legitimacy to web soaps.

The shows can utilize the telenovela format. That way they can rotate the cast. A portion of the cast will work 13 weeks while the other castmembers work on other projects. And then after 13 weeks, they swap.

I would love that. Sort of how Port Charles did their arcs too.

Lawd child, do you just wander around graveyards looking for funerals to join? You're making even me look like the good cop. Let's get through September first then we can audit PP's finances.

LOL I keep it real, can't help it. I won't count my chickens before they're hatched. I just don't want to see this fall through and people get all pissy about it.

I'm actually usually a positive person :P

The Rex character is kind of played out as it is, anyway. If we keep our vets and keep the less annoying newbies for a new generation (i.e. AMC's Maya and OLTL's...Bueller?), they could ditch the middle slew who are sort of vets but who aren't universally liked or even talented.

In your spare time do you volunteer to tell kids that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny don't exist or kick stray dogs?
