Max you seem like such a nice and genuine poster but you know what forget the noise you hear online or from the bloggers on PP and even regarding the soaps currently airing. At the end of the day people make up their own minds on what they do or don't enjoy.People have gravitiated away from soaps and network television for years despite the accollades or criticisms not based on what they read but based on what they watch and the other options presented to them. You will have exactly the same situation if the shows survive in any capacity with PP as you do today. Some people will and won't like them. And you will have the same commentaries from people as you do today. I have no clue how things will evolve but my one hope going forward is that this gives the press an opportunity to take a more objective view of things than they do today. While I think a lot of responsibility lies with TPTB I do think the press for years has turned a blind eye to the challenges and problems that exist and became more about supporting and catering to their favorite show, actor, or writer.

Max, I think PP's only motive right now is to make money and they think they can do that by relaunching these two soaps. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to read into that as being sinister. It's business. They think they can turn a profit.

This has nothing to do with the soap press - they've been jokes for years, and I don't take my cues from them. I'm only interested in what can be done with these shows to take the genre into the future, and this multimedia platform is the closest we have ever come. I thought the genre would get here eventually, in 5-10 years, but I certainly never thought it would happen this fast or with these two shows on the heels of their network cancellations. I can worry about how they will change, or I can embrace change, given what ABC's done to these shows in the last ten or so years, and look ahead. And the fact is OLTL's survival also preserves the long tradition of the New York soaps, which employ so many people both in front of and behind the camera, from stage actors to a loyal and hardworking backstage crew. So I have no reason not to be happy about that, and hopeful. There's just nothing about this that has a downside for me right now. Maybe it will when the product begins to air - maybe I won't like it - but as of now, the genre lives on. It's not going to be exactly the same. It can't be, but it can be good.

This is Daytime Dish so don't take it as fact, but one of their insiders claim Melissa Archer and Jerry Ver Dorn have signed on to Prospect Park OLTL and it will be announced with the next set of announcements. I believe it, both have been very vocal about their excitement over the new venture.

So out of curiosity does anybody here watch PP's Royal Pains or Wilfred? I've been watching Pains for the past two seasons. Although after this season I moved it from the "Watch every week" list to "Watch if/when the feeling hits" list. It looks like they decided to make this nice, frothy summer series into a soap of its own and it's not working.

I just discovered Wilfred and I think it's wonderful. It's quirky, funny and intelligent, and seriously for "mature audiences." But it's also a remake of an Australian series by the same name.

I don't believe they aren't working on AMC actors. I think its just that most of AMC's actors aren't interested. Debbi Morgan, Jacob Young, Cornelius Smith, MEK, RPG, Budig have all either found other jobs or pretty much said they aren't interested. That isn't the case for the OLTL actors. They were fish in a (New York) barrel.

I also think OLTL has it easier since the show is so successful, yet underrated (which in turn makes the actors underrated) so it's easier for them to want to sign on. There is no star, it's truly an ensemble soap and one of the best at adding new characters/recasts so Prospect's main focus will be finding a good writer to continue.

With AMC it's *so* star and couple based which difficult. I also don't feel like they did a good job of building a next generation. It also doesn't help that even then you still have lots of people who want to leave, mostly big stars. Of course it's too soon to tell, but if it were me I'd try and launch a new soap and forget AMC. They should've tied the loose ends up and ended it to begin with. Either that or have a plan in place a lot sooner. Everybody knew which stars would be hard sells or hot commodoties. Like Debbie Morgan and Susan Lucci. Before PP picked up the soaps it was already announced that Sony wanted Morgan. PP should've signed them to a holding deal until everything was sorted out. Then negotiate once they're clear on what will happen.
