IOW, Erica should return to the woods and hook up with that bear. :)

Even I hate to admit this, but...Nick Davis was the real love of Erica's life. Nick knew her the longest, understood her the most (which was why their relationship was antagonistic sometimes) and loved her as a father and as a lover. To Erica, marriage to Nick always will represent the one lost opportunity. And that's a fact.

MICHAEL:

How did you get the news that One Life to Live was cancelled? Were you at the studio that day when ABC Daytime President Brian Frons gave his bi-coastal video conference with the bad news to both OLTL and AMC?

GINA:

No, I was off that day. I was in between episodes, and my agent texted me and she said, “Oh my goodness. I just heard. I will call you in five minutes.” And I am like, “Oh man.” And I am thinking, “I can’t imagine it’s just All My Children, because she wouldn’t be texting like this.” I just could not quite believe it; to have both shows cancelled at once! It is like this big gaping hole. I am sorry, it really is, and it just does not make any sense. It made sense to someone, because someone pulled the plug. Daytime has been so good to me. I have invested more than a few years in it. I have had nurses come up to me who I know, and whether it is in a nursing home or whatever it is, and they tell me for people who are watching daytime, it brightens their day. I know, I have seen it. We were a part of that, and to see that deteriorate is sad.

MICHAEL:

What does this mean for you in terms of the future, and if you fit into the picture when OLTL moves online? Since you were written off early, did you not receive a proposal from Prospect Park like the other actors?

GINA:

I really don’t know where I fit within this new Prospect Park venture. I also don’t know what will happen with any other perspective daytime jobs. We will see. Yes, I have spoken to other shows since the cancellation of OLTL. I am flattered and we will see where that all leads. At the moment, I am in New Jersey with my husband. I love the east coast and it’s my home. There is quite a bit of acting opportunity here in the Northeast, which I am extremely excited about. There are over 22 shows being produced in New York over the next year; including pilots and existing shows. So there is so much going on and I am excited about the new chapter in my life. I have no idea of what is coming around the corner. So you talk about having faith? This is when I truly have to have faith in the process. And, it is not the easiest thing to do every day. I am here to say, it is possible. It is about taking a moment and trying not to act out of fear or scarcity. You have to remember, you have been taking care of yourself this far and you will get yourself to the next place. But, it is about staying centered, relaxed, and grateful.

MICHAEL:

When you look at the different network primetime shows, is there somewhere you can see yourself fitting in? And, what would you like to play?

GINA:

I absolutely would love to play a role on The Good Wife and Blue Bloods. I would love to play a detective or an investigative reporter. I like the police procedural aspect of those shows. I really dig it!

MICHAEL:

What about the four remaining network daytime soap operas? Is there one you sort of fancy and could see yourself on?

GINA:

I would say Y&R has always been the most glam, well-done soap. I think Maria Arena Bell (Y&R executive producer and head writer) is terrific. I am also a fan of B&B. I think it is an adorable show and it’s out there, and it does not try to be more than it is. I think Brad Bell (B&B executive producer and head writer) is really neat, too. I would love to play opposite Billy Miller (Billy Abbott, Y&R)! I think he is so adorable and vivacious. I have known him from various events we have both been at. He is really cool and I really dig him. I think he is a really great young talent. So I think it would be really fun to run around with him on Y&R. I gotta tell you, CBS is a great place. It would be hilarious if we could bring Dinah from Guiding Light to Genoa City! Wouldn’t that be interesting? And can they do that? And if not, maybe have me come on as a distant cousin of Dinah.

She's just kissing up to get a job. It's not a surprise. That's what actors do. But putting Dinah into that acid bath. Why? Why? Does she really want to see Victor throw Dinah out of an ambulance or Adam have her raped by a gyno?

Its really quite sad how bottom-barrel Y&R has become. 5-10 years ago, when the rest of the soaps were fighting tooth and nail to stay relevent resorting to stunt casting, cheap plot stunts, etc... Y&R still managed to somehow stay above the fray and was almost regal in its approach. Now.... its neck-deep in that cesspool.

Well she does bring John Abbott on once a year to "counsel" Jack, Billy, and Katherine.

HOnestly I know years back people used to say Y&R was boring and slow paced etc compared to ABC and NBC but they never deviated from the formula that made them successful and no matter what people said they still were successful.

I know I'm touched when Billy gets to verbally abuse John.

Wait, we can't forget about "honoring history" by telling a month-long story about Phillip being a self-loathing gay man who abandoned his newborn son. Thanks again, Maria.

I should go back and read some of those ass-kissing 2008 and 2009 interviews for a laugh.

    • I caught most of the episodes during that time period.   Subsequently Bell or Alden (I forget which) revealed that Peggy's rape story was done for strategic ratings purposes.  Chris's rape had occurred earlier, before the show really caught on & was near the middle or the lower end of the ratings.  Bell had been pleased with the concept and wanted the rape story to play-out for a much larger audience.  By the 1975-1976 season, the show was near the top of the ratings and was extremely popular among high school & college kids.  He felt the time was right to re-tell the story.   When I was watching in 1976, I didn't find it especially "cruel" that lightning had struck twice in the Brooks family.  I felt it was more of a continuation of Chris's storyline, giving her a chance to continue dealing with the trauma of her own rape.
    • Dan being de facto HW explains a lot. It's clear the show changed direction on a dime according to his interests or whims.
    • Really enjoyed today's episode the whole way through. Having Drew and Nina as red carpet hosts was a brilliant move. You could really see Cameron Mathison channeling his own experiences as a TV host for shows like Entertainment Tonight, but putting a more sinister spin on the host's glib patter. And Cynthia Watros gave some amazing reaction shots during Drew's interactions with people like Carly, Joss, and Willow.  I also really liked the Alexis/Kristina scenes. I know a lot of us find Kristina exasperating, and she is, but Kate Mansi and Nancy Lee Grahn do a great job of portraying a very real dysfunctional mother/daughter dynamic.
    • The episode she got killed off in - which made Wendy a prime suspect in her murder (her car was spotted outside the house) and then Wendy mysteriously disappeared from town.

    • What Dan Curtis never seemed to understand -- and what Art Wallace knew from the get-go -- is that a slow, suspenseful build-up creates a far more satisfying episode than the constant "cliffhangers" that never amounted to much.  ("I'm going to kiillll you, Julia!" before every commercial break, lol.)

    • Watch and form your own point of view; even in its flaws, this soap is soaping.
    • The show is excellent in my opinion.  There are a couple of less-than-stellar actors and a couple of bad storylines, but otherwise it's awesome and I watch many of the episodes twice.  However, episode #55 from May 19 was really bad, which is where you popped into the thread, but it was the *first* really bad episode.  So 54 great episodes out of a total of 55 episodes is pretty good, in my opinion!  I haven't seen today (#56) yet, but I hear it's good.  Will watch in a couple of hours.
