I forgot that she filled in as Dorian for a hot minute, lol.

And didn't Julia Duffy pitch hit as Karen between Kathy Breech and Judith Light?  Does anyone watching back then remember her?  What was she like?  (Somehow, I can't see Stephanie Vanderkellen as a prostitute, lol).

It's possible Wikipedia isn't wrong in this case, and that Duffy filled in only for one day.  But, you know, given that she had just come off of a very successful run on THE DOCTORS, I can't help but wonder if TPTB had her sub for Breech as a sort of test to see whether she could replace her permanently.

I think KB was the correct person to play Karen in the first year or so before Judith Light took over.

Seeing the Aug 1976, April 1977, and May 1977 episodes shows the subtle changes in the Karen character.

Aug 1976, Karen has a confident persona she shows to the world, but we see cracks in it during her conversation with Jenny.  She instantly assumes Jenny is judging her like she always has after Jenny 'judges' her after her conduct with Larry.

April 1977 shows a happy and joyful Karen that feels she's achieved what she's always wanted....financial and emotional security.

May 1977 shows Karen determined to keep up with the Joneses and being mentored by Dorian.  You see a quiet desperation in Karen to maintain her newfound status.

I can imagine summer/fall 1977 would have shown other instances that led Karen to become a prostitute.

From what JL said, she was on set on standby because of KB's health issues and that even though KB did show up that day....Joe Stuart asked JL what she would do if playing Karen...and I bet her answer led to the producers and KB mutually parting ways.

I think KB set a strong foundation for the character of Karen that JL was able to build from.

Also, I don't know if JL could have played Karen as well in the first year of her character.  She would have played it more cold and less warm then KB..imho.

Lastly, Pinkerton is fab as Dorian...and I think Claire Malis was an excellent bridge between Pinkerton and Strasser.  She could play restrained like Pinkerton, but could ham it up like Strasser.

I wish someone would do one of those "Where The Heck Are They Now?" interviews with Kathryn Breech - that is, if they can find her, lol - where she can discuss her time on OLTL, along with her version of events that led up to her departure.

I checked out Ellen Holly's book from the library. Interestingly enough, she does not accuse Slezak of what she would later accuse Slezak of saying/doing in the Oral History book. She does quote Slezak from what appears to be a 1988 Robert Rorke SOD article. I have not found this article. I took a photo of the quote she references in the book.

    • This show treats Claire like a glorified extra prop not the granddaughter of the 2 biggest supercouples this show has ever had. I don't think was ever invested in Claire nor writing for her & her connections to majority of the town. What a waste of a legacy character with so much potential
    • Kim Zimmer could have had a nice career as a supporting actress in Hollywood, but that does not appear to be what she wanted. That's fine, but in the eighties, she was not going to have many options as a leading actress. The eighties were brutal for a performer like her.  Her one big film role lasted a minute or two. Even while she was on GL, she should have been doing episodic television. Was her agent that incompetent or was she just bad at auditioning? Her episode of "Designing Women" was quite popular and was discussed at the time for its subject matter, but she never followed up on it. It's bizarre to me.
    • Billy just showed up for Vanessa's memorial (Sept 9, '96), which is so nice!  My first time seeing him like this outside of random clips from the past. He's out of jail for 24 hours, so not long. It's good to see him with the family.
    • Definitely was more recent than not; when the set originally returned, the change hadn't happened.
    • It was nice seeing Victorias house and I see it’s been remodelled. I’m sure this happened awhile ago but since I tuned out from the show for so long I am only noticing it now. Looks beautiful though!  Also, Billy and Sally gross me out so much. I don’t know what it is I hate so much about them. They give me the ick. Definitely a mismatch. I don’t buy that these people would be attracted to eachother in real life much less have a relationship..

    • Also, isn’t there supposed to be a storyline with Mariah and Tessa? Mariah cheating or something (keeping some kind of secret) and they were only on screen 2 and 3 times this month. Like what? How am I supposed to care when I barely see them?
    • Definitely wouldn't trust Dinah right now haha.  But that's great to know Billy comes back soon!  I'm excited for that. If he's at the boardinghouse, then I guess he does get closer to Nola perhaps, and then he'll be around Peter/Bridget and J, who is currently in his orbit along with Michelle and Dahlia, and Marcus is at the boardinghouse, so maybe they go the teenage story route most of this time until Billy gets back.
    • Sounds like me, but I prefer to be referred to as Contessa. We all know I can go a long time not paying attention to certain things.  And, if I might add, hey there dude, you effed up pretty good this time and I think this was your last chance. So don't let the door hit you in your behind as you go BYE MOMMY!
    • That did cross my mind at first, but I'd be more inclined to believe it if this didn't involve Trump. I'm not at all sure he is capable of being that sneaky. Of course, there's always a possibility I guess that his advisors are doing it without telling him, but that seems awfully risky. Trump is such a loose cannon you can never predict what he's going to do or say.
