In the few episodes I saw of her Karen, I think the actress establishes the foundation that Judith Light is able to build from when she takes over the role later on that year.

I viewed Kathryn's Karen at this stage as finally obtaining what she thought she needed.. which was prestige as a doctor's wife and was aiming to keep up with the Joneses by utilizing the decorator that Dorian was suggesting.   I have feeling if we saw other episodes from summer/fall 1977 that we could have seen how Kathryn B played Karen once her need for attention and gifts takes root.

Thankfully, Judith Light was spared this monstrosity of wedding fashion.  Because soap marriages often end in divorce, but the pictures live forever on the internet.

Michael Easton was by his best friend and One Life to Live costar Kamar de los Reyes' side when he died.

While speaking at the May 16 Daytime Stands Up: A Benefit for Stand Up to Cancer - We All Have a Story live stream event, Easton, 57, paid tribute to de los Reyes, who died at age 56 on Dec. 24, 2023 after being diagnosed with cancer.

"There was people stretched out all the way to outside. People showed that hadn’t seen him in 20 years. That was the effect. So many of the One Life cast members came and cast from All American,” Easton said, referencing the TV series de los Reyes starred in as Coach Montes from 2022 until his death.

Easton played John McBain alongside de los Reyes' character Antonio Vega in One Life to Live. The drama ran for 21 seasons from 1968 through 2013. De los Reyes starred in the show from 1995 to 2009, while Easton was on it from 1999 until 2012.

The actors' friendship actually began when they starred in the 1990 action thriller Coldfire together.

"It was a 30-year friendship with Kamar. We did our first movie together in 1990. I was scared and I was quiet, and I was instantly drawn to his bravado and his sense of himself. Kamar was larger than life," Easton shared.

"He was the best man at my wedding, and I'm godfather to his son Michael. His loss was profound on all of us," he added.

Remembering his best friend, Easton went on, “There hasn’t been a day gone by that I haven’t thought of him and his family and what he brought to this world, and the contributions he made, not only to this acting community."

Easton also revealed that de los Reyes worked up until two weeks before his death, and would always talk about "healing" instead of being sick.

"He was fierce to the end. He never talked about being sick. Even though the odds were stacked from the very beginning, and it’s still really hard for me to talk about, but I was in awe of his strength and his resolve. I would’ve shut down long before he did," he continued.

De los Reyes is survived by his wife, actress Sherri Saum, and his sons, Caylen from a previous relationship, and twins Michael and John, whom he shared with Saum.

Alan Scarfe had a brief role on OLTL as Leo Cromwell, father of Christine, the daughter Viki was conned into thinking was hers when it was actually Megan.

(I have wondered if the show had bigger plans for Christine but just lost interest - the most I remember is all the stuff with Wade and Mari Lyn)

You know, it struck me the other day how Viki had most of her children - Megan, Kevin, Jessica, Natalie - taken from her at or shortly after their birth.  Joey was the only child of hers who didn't suffer that fate (so, of course, he'd be the one that was always hardest to recast, lol).

I've said it before, but when you've had one baby kidnapped, it's a tragedy.  When it happens four times, you have to take some responsibility for not being a protective parent.

I mean, lock a door, sleep with the infant in the room, do something to avoid cult members from stealing your kid.  Dorian may have left her kids in Europe or South America, but she didn't let other people whisk them away and replace them with their twin.

Thanks @MissPalmer .

What a bizarre, deeply unsettling sight...and that's just poor Jacquie Courtney having to rock a headband and sweatsuit in high drama. Was Pat on the way from an exercise class?

OLTL in the early/mid '80s is so weird. I wish everything was available so we could do a deep dive.

This person has been uploading 1988-1991 (and uploaded other full years of OLTL). From this episode, how much longer until Rauch is gone? How soon until we feel a change? Wasn't there a change in the writing before Malone?

    • BITD I was posting about how interesting it was that Denise had been with this same guy for simply years but they just did not marry - then that year they married!
    • Random takes from this week: - Bill’s been played way too soft by the actor. I just can’t buy him doing anything truly sinister. I wish he had more of that old-school Victor Newman edge. - On characterization: I’m fine with Leslie being shown as a narcissistic and cruel mother—as long as she doesn’t tip into full cartoon villain territory. Dani’s involvement in Nicole’s storyline feels natural to me, and I really like that Martín is such a hothead, which totally clashes with his polished political career. No wonder no one wants to confide in him. Also, I don’t mind Haley’s characterization at all. - I’m still annoyed they dropped the whole lawsuit storyline. That’s why I’m a bit hesitant about getting too invested in the June plot. Also: I can do without another instant-sibling storyline. - Ashley and Derek? Totally fine with them in small doses. That’s the best way to handle those two. - Thank God Ted is getting recast. I honestly couldn’t handle that constant swaying much longer. - Speaking of Ted: maybe I’m in the minority here, but that hotel set is hideous. The oversized boiserie makes everything look flat, and that artwork on the wall? Bland, ugly, and lifeless. - I’m 50/50 on the product placement. On one hand, it’s totally misplaced and campy—especially when it shows up in the middle of emotional scenes. It just feels wrong. But on the other hand… here we are talking about Febreze and Tide. So maybe it is working? I honestly don’t know. - I don’t have any issues with the fashion on the show overall, but André’s wardrobe is just off. Not in terms of style, but size. His tops are way too tight and actually make him look even shorter than he is. Same goes for Smitty. Both of them would seriously benefit from some larger blazers or chunkier sweaters.
