That second promo is a trip.

So was Carlo enemies with the Buchanans before Vicki killed his son? Or did their rivalry stem from the past? 

 

I always found Carlo (from the years I watched OLTL) to be slapstick and not the least bit menacing.

If i remember correctly there was already bad blood between them. But Vicki as Nikki killing Johnny made things even worse. I found Carlo more menacing during his first run. 

Carlo was introduced as a drug kingpin. Viki wanted to wipe out drugs in Llanview. This led to their first clashes, and to the episode above where she's shot by one of his men. 

 

Carlo was much better in his first run, both the earlier stuff where he mooned over Renee and the S&M stuff with Alex. Nothing about the character (or his brother Mortimer) was ever really the same after they "killed" him off in 1992.
