@Vee The Shanelle Workman analysis is interesting to me because when B&B hired her both Thudley and CBS were pimping her out in excess as they did with all the other “poached” ABC actors that the CBS soaps picked up during 2003-2005 era. B&B spent months revolving around Workman’s Gabriela character and it was DREADFUL. Thudley was going to have Workman’s character turn evil and come back with a scarred face to torment Taylor for getting her deported, but thankfully nixed the idea.

Yeah, I heard it was real awful. I didn't see her on that show. I was a booster of her on OLTL at the time because she had a unique look, but watching some of that material in recent years I think she is raw at best.

"I take thee...Cord."

My first real glimpse of Andrea was that OLTL weddings VHS tape I watched over and over in the mid '90s. A good portion of it, rightfully so, was devoted to the insane Tina spectacles of the peak Rauch era. An era that would never have been possible without Andrea.

No matter how many bad things Tina did, Andrea found the heart of the character. You believed she did care about other people - Cord, Viki, Gabrielle, her kid - even if she often wanted to put herself first. Her work holds up exceptionally well too. If you showed somebody new to soaps the Tina material from back then, gross and stupid as a lot of it could be, they would probably still be fascinated by her.

I don't think you can understand just what a difficult job Andrea had in making Tina so beloved unless you look at so many other failed attempts at the same character over the years, or even on the same show.

Andrea was a delight to watch. She lit up the screen. She had such a presence. In many ways I might compare her to Judy Holliday, another very intelligent actress who never quite got her due.

I'm glad Andrea at least got to return at the end to give Tina a happy ending.

It's been a tough few years for soap fans, but much as all of these losses hurt, this one really makes me sad.

My first Tinas were the '90s Tinas, and I am still very partial to Karen Witter. But Witter's Tina is ultimately built on a fusion of the changing times and Andrea's own work - she perfectly synthesized the era to the kind of quirky tics and breathy neuroses Andrea created first.

When I first saw Andrea Evans as Tina I didn't really understand that or appreciate it. I just knew this Tina was incredibly squeaky and mannered and it drove me up the wall for a time. Later, I understood it. Because Andrea Evans offscreen was not Tina Lord - you look at any interview with her, and from voice to presence they were very different people. She transformed when the camera was on in a way few still do; it was a whole performance, full body and spirit. Yet there was a core underneath, it wasn't all artifice or screwball energy. She had humanity and depth. You can see the same in her Y&R work, which I saw during the pandemic - another whole different person.

There is something very sad yet appropriate to Tina that Andrea's last stint on the show had her wearing a gorgeous, flowing blond wig to hide the effects of  her illness. I will always remember her smiling at Roger Howarth's Todd and booping his nose, almost certainly unscripted. She always made it look so easy.

Watching some old clips to make myself feel a bit better after today's heartbreaking news.

I know this type of scene was an affront to everything Agnes Nixon and many others had wanted OLTL to be, but I still laugh and laugh every time I watch it. Bless Erika Slezak for just...going for it. And Barbara Luna is her own delight as always.

    • I don't think Chelsea has a true label just yet. She's just finding out she has an interest in women. I think the awkwardness is aligned with the character as we've seen. This is the fool who keeps filming her family when embarrassing things happen and live streaming it. I actually think it's refreshing she isn't just jumping into a relationship  and that they're playing the beats of her trying to figure out who she is.
    • Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. YAWN. -- Kat is making mistakes, but she's fun to watch and listen to, regardless. -- I still think the Joey/Vanessa/Doug gambling story sucks. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
    •   Victoria's house (that she long ago lived in with Billy) burned down (I think Aunt Jordan set it ablaze?). Victoria briefly moved into the ranch after the fire, with Claire, Johnny and Katie, I think? Mariah and Tessa and baby Aria had been living in the tack house but they bought a house we've never seen and moved there. Victoria, Claire, and Cole then moved into the tack house as soon as Teriah left. I guess Victoria's children Johnny and Katie would live with Victoria at the tack house eventually? But Johnny and Katie went to boarding school during the school year. Not sure if we'll see Johnny and Katie for the summer vacation or where they would live.
    • Victoria’s previous house burned down.    And I know why characters frequent Crimson Lights 3 times a day for brownies, muffins and empty mugs:   THERE’S PCP IN EVERYTHING.
    • Today was a good episode, and the week for that matter. I think they've also done a better job with background music. The scenes in todays episode weren't as silent as they usually are in the background and it was noticeable. I think the show has found its groove well and I'm still invested.
    • Garneau was in the Liberal party and his riding was in Montreal. He was the first Canadian in outer space.
    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
