I never heard anything about that. Maybe it was a proposed story idea that never got past the planning stage.

Sometimes, when characters are initially introduced, they are given some scenes and material that suggests one thing, but it ends up getting dropped or changed without explanation.

Yes. I know AMC had several characters who battled addiction, but as far as I can see Mona wasn't one of them.

At the very beginning, Phoebe Tyler came across as more of a ditz than a formidible pillar of society, but that changed after a little while.

Yeah, didn't Ruth Warrick intentionally play it that way (re: Phoebe's support of the Vietnam War)?

Warrick did later admit that she originally played Phoebe as a bit of a ninny, but when she found out Agnes Nixon was unhappy and saw the character in a different way, Warrick revised the way she played the part.

From what I understand, she really played that storyline well. Good for her for adjusting her portrayal.

The way Susan speaks makes It sound like it was something floated about before the show got on the air. Mona was probably supposed to have a drinking problem when Susan auditioned but by the time the show went to air that idea had been dropped.

This pairing did not last long enough. Erica and David were a brilliant pair.

I actually thought that they were fire.. It was a shame that it didn't lasted long. They could've been such a power couple to dominate the show.

Wasn't that the time before Anna/David happened?

The show was actually making plans to replace Ruth Warrick as Phoebe.   Haila Stoddard (whose step-daughter was then or had been on A World Apart) was the actress who was nearly hired as her replacement.

That’s interesting. Never heard that. Was this during the time Ruth was seldom seen? Early 2000s?

Danfling is referring to the first year of the show. Several actors were replaced as the show settled in.

The actors playing Linc, Ann. Paul and Kate were all replaced.

Makes sense 1970 was the year Haila was let go of Secret Storm, she had a 16 year tenure as villain Pauline who I understand was kinda High Society Matron so she sounded like a good Phoebe
