May 14, 201114 yr Member Meanwhile, what she has to about "reality shows" in general is correct, I think. "An American Family" was "reality;" the [!@#$%^&*] that's on today ain't nowhere realistic. When you mentioned An American Family my mind when to the PBS series about a Latino family. That was a far better drama than what we are being ordered to "save."
May 14, 201114 yr Member Close, marceline, lol! I'm talking about the docu-series that followed the Louds of Santa Barbara, CA, in the early '70's.

(I watched it two days ago. ) I saw a preview for that the other day, it looked pretty good though I wondered if I should try to see the original to fully appreciate it. I do remember seeing a news piece about the son years ago, how he was the first openly gay person invited into American homes. He later died from complications of AIDS. While we are talking about good and REAL reality series, allow me to plug my all-time favorite, the Up series. It is a documentary series following a group of British people, lower/middle/upper class, starting as 7-year-old school children (Seven Up is the original) and catching up with them every 7 years. I highly recommend it, we got them off of Netflix and devoured each 7 year installment far too quickly, I really wish we had spread them out more. It was spoofed on a Simpsons episode a few seasons ago (Springfield Up).
May 15, 201114 yr Member It truly saddens me to finally know the final air dates for AMC (Sept 23, 2011) and OLTL (January 20, 2012). It's real to me now. They are really ending
May 15, 201114 yr Member Kendall was always alot more subtle and subdued than Greenlee ever was. Greenlee was written more like a pitbull. Extremely impulsive and quick to attack. That did not describe Kendall under SMG. She was more methodically and strategic with her schemes. She wasnt quick to pick fights and be a bitch just for the sake of being a bitch. Overall she was alot more sly, cunning and her approach to confrontation was more defensive whereas with Greenlee, she was more offensive, literally picking on and antagonizing others Precisely. If confrontation ensued, it was by someone else's provocation. I will say that this doesn't mean I think it's because of SMG being better/lesser than AM... but the change in characterization is obvious. SMG's Kendall used to react to people's negative responses towards her. AM's Kendall tends to bite first, bark later. Along the line, it was determined that Greenlee and Kendall were exactly the same, and therefore the rabid pitbull demeanor was applied to both characters. OLTL's demise: 01202012 Anyone else find it odd that she can't even spell her "good friend's" name correctly? Unless that's just a typo from Angela Don't blame Angela. Lorraine Broderick tweaked her post before she sent it.
May 15, 201114 yr Member SMG's Kendall is the type of character I love...scrappy little firecracker, easily forgotten by those around her but can just as easily be the center of drama if pushed far enough because she doesn't realize the magnitude of her schemes until after she's put them into motion. AM's Kendall, on the other hand, requires less pushing and seemingly knows exactly how f!cked up some of the things she does are. Edited May 15, 201114 yr by All My Shadows

If only they hadn't retconned her into existence, I might have loved the sniping, little bitch.
May 15, 201114 yr Member I don't think SMG misspelled the name. Odds are the interview was over the phone, or the interviewer was recording/writing down her responses. I doubt SMG typed out the answers personally.
May 15, 201114 yr Member Unless that's just a typo from Angela It's a typo from the person who transcribed SMG's answers for that article. The biggest difference for me with either Kendall and Greenlee is the show has always taken effort to show where Kendall is coming from, and I never felt they put that much effort into where Greenlee's bitch factor stems from. For a long time, I think they did the same thing with David. There wasn't much effort in showing what birthed the nastiness, "a bitch for the sake of being a bitch." I disagree with R S on the change between Kendall's. I think there was a change, but IMO it was from less provocation to action to more provacation to action and not the opposite. That's why AM's Kendall has fit more into the category of anti-heroine or heroine and why SMG's Kendall fit more into the category of vixen and love to hate. She was more methodically and strategic with her schemes. She wasnt quick to pick fights and be a bitch just for the sake of being a bitch. I agree with the bolded part. The rest, no. I think Greenlee is methodical and strategic with schemes. I think Greenlee can't help manipulating all of the people all of the time. Kendall with either actress was impulsive and reactive to being hurt rather than a conceited, smart, hardcore bitch.
May 15, 201114 yr Member When the Chew and Revolution fail, ABC should just cut their losses and go back to the classics:
May 15, 201114 yr Member Exactly. When all else fail, just repurpose old ABC sitcoms and drama shows. Hell, they could even create some big "Come Home to the Classics!" campaign for it. I still believe, though, ABC will eventually cede all available daytime hours to its news division, thus creating an entire day of news and information, from GMA and "The View," right up to "ABC World News Tonight." May 15, 201114 yr Member Its embarassing to see what the soap mags have become. IMO they have gotten way too tabloidish in recent years
