LOL... Y&R could have modelled Sofia after NeNe

If Nene could act Nene with lines written for her (oh wait... ) she would be the closest match to Dru's fire.

LMAO at the sign with Tim Gunn's face crossed out and the mustachioed gentleman with the Shane! sign.

That Shane sign creeped me out. That had "To Catch a Predator" written all over it.

I would love to see the onliner reaction to that kind of story. I think the general audience would embrace it. The online fangurls not so sure. But if it drew viewers it would prove the nonsense about who's with who etc is just that nonsense.

It would actually be a socially relevant story. Chlamydia rates are increasing and undiagnosed and untreated chlamydia is the leading cause of infertility among women. On Y&R, Victoria could have been unable to conceive because she contracted the disease from Billy who sleeps around and is known to be careless about birth control. But the soaps are so busy exploiting women with sensational rape and pregnancy stories that they rarely remember to focus on real issues that effect women.

But you know what the cry would be don't you? "Chlamydia isn't SOAPY!!"

Somehow the daily humilitation of women came to define "soapy." Which IMO is a big part of the reason soapy=canceled.

Fun to see Ilene Kristen and Colleen Zenk Pinter in the photos (Colleen is nicely shellacked like she's make-up ready on set at ATWT).

Those picket sign posters look like 5-year-olds made them. C'mon ladies! Bold colors! Solid letters! Consistent lines! Sheesh...

Aww...way to go Colleen!!:)

Cuz they don't want to attach gross icky STD's with hot, ripped hunky save-the-day supermen soap studs. The only guys with STD's in soap opera world have long greasy hair, wear trenchcoats, and sell knock-off jewelry in the park.

Because it's easier to knock a woman up with an oops pregnancy, a WTD, or have women b*tching over a man than it is to actually take time to write

something that takes time, planning, patience, and sensitivity.

Oh my God, you took the words right out of my fingertips. I'm not even gonna lie, it pisses me off when fellow soap fans shoot down fresh, interesting story ideas with that pathetic, pathetic cry of "It's not soapy!" Screw that. They desperately made cyberbullying "soapy" and look what the f!ck we got. Get off my steps with that nonsense.

Y&R couldn't handle Nia Peeples.

They definitely can't handle NeNe.

Yep.

And women aren't allowed to accept any responsibility for their reproductive health they're just bed warmers & brood mares.

But dead babies, constant rape & psycho twins?

Now THAT'S soap!

I would love to see a soap scene where an ingenue in college gets up to go to class, slips on sweats, goes to brush her teeth, closes the medicine cabinet and is smacked in the face with red burning sores around her mouth and chin (eyes? ). Fast forward to the burning down below, the dude spreading rumors that she is dirty when he unknowingly gave it to her as he was previously asymptomatic, the Zovirax regimen, the *talk* with every future partner, the lawsuit when she is date raped and gives it to a guy who lies and says it was consensual and she didn't tell him he had it...

The housewives shows on Bravo have writers, at least one or two of them worked at Guiding Light. I've watched parts, but I don't find them interesting as they don't feel real.

From the pictures I couldn't tell, but how many people went to the protest rally in NYC?

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

THIS is the type of stuff I want to see! This is LIFE. To quote the legendary Betty Wright's producer, "It's happenin' evvvvvery day. And people wanna hear about it, Betty!"

It's amazing how many of the most revered soap writers simply wrote what they know, which is one of John Waters's biggest tips to aspiring writers. Irna Phillips derived so much of what she wrote from her own upbringing as well as the dreams she had. Agnes based Pine Valley on the Philadelphia-area neighborhoods she knew so well. Douglas Marland brought in all them damn Snyders because that was the type of family he grew up in. I mean, of course you can work with stuff that you're interested in and want to research more about, but when it comes to hitting nearly every single mark and getting it right? Write what you know!

If I had given up each TV series, let alone each soap, that had failed to represent ethnic and/or racial minorities accurately, I basically would've stopped watching TV altogether w/ the final episode of "A Different World." And we all know how long ago that was.

Many people have stopped watching network tv shows and soaps for this very reason. The same is true with women. The decline in the numbers for women 18-49 isn't just because more women are working, it's also due to women being better educated, so they aren't going to understand why they should root for characters like Todd Manning or Sonny Corinthos.
