AMC and OLTL Canceled!

A lot of fans still love GH, even if they don't post here. But the show has screwed fans over so many times over the years, especially the last decade. If they were better at writing for their pets then their gutting of the rest of the show would not be as damaging, but they are shockingly awful at writing for said pets, and have been for a while.

Both ATWT and GL's final episodes were abysmal. I really don't think it makes much difference if they bring back fan faves or focus on wrapping up the stories of current characters. However, I would like a nostalgic AMC episode with flashbacks of Erica's most infamous scenes and marriages as well as an episode with characters remembering the late wonderful characters like Myrtle, Mona, Phoebe, Langley, and Palmer.

The only OLTL characters that I would like to see again are Marcie and Michael. Marcie was the last recent character that I cared about in any meaningful way. I would love for her to return to Landview with her family as a successful writer.

I think that's very true. We've heard for years that Carly and Sam are pets, but you would hardly know it. Sure, Carly is on all the time, but she is written as so insufferable. As someone who was once a fan, I just can't imagine what these writers were thinking. Then the way they've neglected characters that were not pets is just sad. I can forgive phasing out the vets. I understand that money was truly at issue, but they didn't need to focus on the same 4 characters for a 10 year interval. That drove people away and no one will convince me otherwise.

I'm not sure a lot of fans still love GH. I guess if you've only started watching GH in the last decade and don't know how good GH was before, it's good to you. Plus, you really have to be fans of Sonny, Jason and Carly to enjoy it now. Once upon a time (90s), I liked Sonny, Jason and Carly but no more. Plus, Guza ruined every single one of my all-time favorite characters (Robert, Holly, Anna, Felicia, Scotty, Rick W), that it just makes me HATE Guza's beloved pets even more. This show jumped the shark when Jill Phelps took over as E.P. and could not reign in Bob Guza. I can't wait for ABC to put GH out of it's misery and that's sad for me as a devoted 30 year + viewer.

I think bringing back favorites can help a finale because it helps hide weak stories. I can forgive a lot of GL's last months because they did make a token effort at bringing back past characters and using them to enrich present stories. With the notable exception of the wonderful John Dixon, ATWT did not. If I had to choose between Nola blowing a kiss to Company, and poor Bob being drowned out by Prince of Tides music...

I'd love to see Marcie and Michael one last time. Honestly I am going to just assume no past characters will be back, and be pleasantly surprised if the returns are not just Roger Howarth and ciphers like Adrianna.

The only AMC characters I really want to see before finale are Skye and Adam. On OLTL its Tina and Cord. Other than that, I dont need a parade of old characters to come aboard. I think the best way to handle that would be to have a major event. A wedding for Brooke/Adam or Erica/Jack would suffice in getting that done

I love Kathy Brier and it would be a nice "how ya like me now?" to have Marcie and - preferably Nathaniel Marston's - Michael return. I have nothing against Chris Stack but AFAIC, Marston and Brier had a very special chemistry. Also, NM always did great work with Michael Easton and if ME is going to stick around for the long haul he needs at least one actor to help make John tolerable. Right now he's just a free range dick.

If I had my vote for a return, I want RJ to come back for Dorian. I want him to show up and say that he's decided to travel the world and he would love nothing more than to have Dorian accompany him. I can think of nothing more perfect than Dorian and RJ strutting off into the sunset together. Whether as friends or lovers, those two characters belong together. JMHO.

That's a lot of it, yes, but I also know some fans who have watched for 30-40 years and still do. They will never stop. Those are the fans who have been pissed on by Guza and still show their loyalty, and those are the only ones who are going to care when GH is gone - the people that Frons and JFP and Guza probably resent or see as unworthy.

The thing with AMC and OLTL is that for many years they easily blended in old, briefly returning characters with current characters. AMC especially. It only seems like a parade because the shows have become so barren and devoid of identity in recent years.

I really think the shows do need some reminder of why they were so special. I would hate for someone who stopped watching OLTL years ago to tune in for the finale and instead of seeing a great collection of family and friends, stumble onto mouthbreathing Ken dolls and the brain damaged whores who fall at their feet.

I have it on excellent authority that he's doing just fine. He was on the last episode of Blue Bloods and the independent film he was in is getting a nice reception. </Marston fangurl>

I would love to see Skye again but I can't think of any truly organic way to bring her back. If she didn't come back for Myrtle's funeral, nothing short of Adam's death will work.

The good thing for this AMC fan is that we've already had a host of returns over the last few years. Myrtle's funeral, Palmer's funeral, J&A's wedding and the 40th anniversary all allowed for the return of various characters in appropriate ways. IMO, AMC doesn't have to twist itself into knots looking for a reason to bring most of these people back. They can just make the most of upcoming opportunities to bring back characters without having to shoehorn them in. We have plenty of reasons to see Adam, Brooke, Jamie, Tom, Livia, Derek, Mary Smythe, Lily, Reggie, etc.

If I may vote for most random return, I would love to see Erica's assistant Val pop back up again. Just because.

La Lucci ET interview. I'm not sure if it's the whole interview that airs tonight.

    • Assuming that Marland had been allowed to write the Carrie story the way he'd envisioned, Millette would've been involved in the story. And she might've played a role in Andy Norris' return (if the speculation on that had ever materialized, and Marland loved bringing back bad boys) But he doesn't seem interested in Sara's personal life. And the women of Springfield could only be analyzed so much.
    • This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.
    • @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
