Amen! I'm loving Kate now that she's isn't a busy body in her children's life. I haven't liked Kate this much since Deb Adair was in the role.

Ditto!! I love this Kate! I was glad she had that story with Roman as well cause she was not that focus on the kids lives! Oooohhh memories started flooding back with just the mere mention of Deb Adair!! I miss her!

Agreed. Not saying I don't like Lauren, I just miss Deborah. I don't remember Alison ever working with Deborah anyway.

So sorry to hear Jay Kenneth Johnson(Phillip) and Shelley Hennig(Stephanie) are leaving. I hope Phillip is re-cast, Phillip is very important to the show imho. I'd bring back Kyle Brandt, who imho is just as good as JKJ. With Hennig leaving, I wonder if Mary Beth Evans will be axed as Kayla too, same goes for Judi Evans(Adrienne) & Wally Kurth(Justin). I think DAYS might re-cast Steph too.

I dont want recasts for either character. I dont want to see Stephanie continue to play second fiddle to Melanie and Philip continued to be ruined and saddled with Melanie. All these characters have been written horribly to prop that bitch. Maybe they will "de-soras" Melanie and put her in Will's age group and pair her with the new Hernandez brother.

I only saw Deborah Adair on Dynasty, and she was awful on that show. I am shocked to see she has fans. Did you guys like her on Dynasty also?

She was awesome as Kate, she was also great as Melrose's Lucy in the first season. And wasn't she Jill Foster-Abbott on Y&R for a few years in the early 80's? Anyhow, her Dynasty role was short-lived and kinda silly (and oy to that hair!)

I'm so ok with Nathan and Stephanie leaving. But Phillip ... I love him! I wouldn't mind if they brought Kyle Brandt back. And I agree Shelle needs to come back, I'd also love to see Rex and Mimi coming back.

Maybe they will put Daniel and Carly together and they (with Melanie and the baby) leave town as a family. I really don't know what they are going to do with Chloe and Melanie now....

She was great as Kate and she I heard she was pretty good as Jill, but I didn't see her on Dynasty. I was born yet.

LOL! Omg I seriously agree. I thought he was terrible as Philip!

Agreed. That whole era that he was on (2003-2006?) was awful, so I don't look back at any of his run fondly.

How sad that that's the era I was a viewer for, haha

why would the show ever write out Kate? Kate can do it all and always does. When they need someone to torment a romantic couple, there is Kate. When they need someone to cause trouble in the big family dynamic they have Kate. When they need someone to star in a cynical pairing that isn't true love who else but Kate can they call on? All they have to do is either bring back Lucas, or bring back another kid (and I guess Rex is on deck at this point) and the story begins again. She is in sports what is called a utility player, and that's why she glides effortlessly from Kiriakis shenanigans to DiMera fighting, to being mean to Chloe. They would get more hours of story out of bringing on a kid for Kate vs writing Kate out because she has no kids.

That is a brilliant explanation of what Kate does for the canvas. Lauren Koslow is the only actress, as far as I can recall, on DAYS who has lasted as long and with such a high profile without having a character defining lead storyline to call her own. Kate is the rich bitch of the show, a character most of daytime has forgotten about. She is a central antagonist. You can drop Kate into any storyline on the canvas and she has a role and she works.

Kate's storylines arent even about her children anymore. She stands independent on her own without her family connections. She has enough going with Stedano and the Dimera clan to keep her as a viable character

In the last 3 years we have seen more independence and growth, writing wise, for Kate than we've seen since the character debuted in 1993. Kate's connected to the Dimeras, Vivian, Brady, Victor, Sami, Will and Roman. She's got plenty of connections and plenty of storyline left in her.

Losing Kate would be a horrendous blow to the show, she is far from dead weight and the character and actress haven't gotten the respect they've deserved.

Well she's certainly made the role her own. Can you believe it's been 15 years since we first saw her cutting up raw fish on that boat?
