GH deserves the ratings it gets. The show has sucked for years and they deserve those ratings for using one of their biggest stars ever as angst to prop up those losers Sonny and Dante and be the pawn in their lame father and son wuv/hate story. That makes me wish Vanessa never came back. She and the character of Brenda deserve better than this.

Yeah, last I heard, and I don't know if it's true, was that they were doing worse than GL in total ratings and in demos, which, even with less of a budget, isn't great. I can see why they canceled GL but they should have put a better quality show in its place -- LMAD, like today's Price is Right, just seems like no one gives a damn. The total silence which comes from that show doesn't tell me it was a great move. They might as well just show reruns there.

The ABC soaps are essentially in a statistical tie in HHs and demos. I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news. The bad is obviously that the numbers aren't good at all, but the good is that there is a very consistent audience who watches the ABC block from start to finish. Despite its struggling numbers, the lineup is dependable, which I wonder actually counts for something with the ad guys.

Of course GH is lower than pre-Brenda ratings. Her return story has sucked from day one. GH fans have been screw too many times regarding return stories the last few years. They were not going to come back for Brenda's knowing Guza was writing it. GH fans had enough after seeing Laura, Robert, Anna, Holly, and Noah get screwed with their returns. Not to mention you have a show that as a whole is horrible and was horrible before Brenda came back.

P.S. Turning Jax's brother Jerry into a homicidal maniac with a new face to yet again prop up Sonny and Jason as heroes didn't help either.

Well, even if the numbers suck, I am satisfied with GH for the week.

Monday's usually have pretty good ratings on GH, and the ratings sucked this week. Tuesday's ratings were a joke. But the show jumped 179,000 viewers betwen Tues and Wed. So I am satisfied to see that the Thanksgiving episode (with the Q's Spencers and Davises) was the highest of the week (up 11,000 from Monday and 179,000 from Tuesday).

If you average their gains for the week, they gained an average of 95,089 viewers between Monday and wednesday (adding the 11,00 gain from Monday-Wednesday and the 179,000 gain from Tuesday to Wednesday).

So if they can gain that many viewers for an episode featuring veterans with NO advertisement or announcement, don't they see how many people would tune in of those people got a STORY that was written well and PROMOTOED?

[eartha kitt] iiidiots! [/eartha kitt]

No argument Guza's written VM a horrid return story.

However, take a closer look at the numbers, in August and September GH was holding its viewers pretty well. The show started to lose viewers in October:

Aug 2010 2,562,000 829,250

Sep 2010 2,573,400 851,000

Oct 2010 2,439,250 772,000

Nov 2010 2,425,250 776,000

The major storylines on GH are newbified in top tier story

you have Lisa dominating the Robin / UnFatal Attraction storyline and now the story seems to be more about her than Robin and Patrick...Everyone on the hospital end has been dummyed down you would never believe she is Anna/Robert's daughter...Lisa is cunning, diabolical and outmaneuvering a screeching totally off the rails Robin. Nik and Robin who have been good friends forever who helped him several times he's siding up with Lisa. Thus far the whole hospital storyline revolves a character that just came on the canvas last year via another actress. I don't even see her uncle the police commissioner actively investigating Lisa on or off the record no one is.

LnL2 fans got baited and switched with JJ's return they thought they were going to get old school LnL2 only to see them demolished Elizabeth written fickle to pine after a Lucky who comes off smelling like a rose. She is the heavy with a double triangle with Nik/Brooklyn on the otherside and Shiobhan leeched to Lucky them using Enations song for their scene didn't help matters ...

Brooklyn isn't new but she is a return...who is isolated from the Qs holing up at Wyndemere, with few scenes with Tracey or her Godmother Brenda who I don't even think has seen Emma yet. If she did I missed.

SnB two newbies Dante / Claire eating up serious air aren't needed in this story Sonny and Brenda have enough history to carry them....now here we go with a secret with this awful uneeded backstory w/Dante and the Balkan...All the vets are written like crap against newbies who are getting the writing. No matter how much you root for the vets they are going to get thrown under for them... Then there is Maya and/or Ethan storyline I can't even figure this one out yet...

yep the #s were holding two months of her return and when Sonny banged Claire they lost 263,000 so I guess that was the last straw some of the fans of old-school SnB fans bailed.

Them having Luke marry Tracey on Laura's birthday and have her daughter as matron of honor fine and dandy with it has ticked off some veteran LnL fans I post with. It is no need for this so I can only ask myself why? I mean the show kicks oldtimer's in the ass at every turn. And these are just a few examples there is so much more a series of perfect blunders e.g., dropped storylines, continuity but hey SOD says its the most outstanding soap of 2010; the best one out here so?

Who am I to say.

    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.

    • Well now we had Ashley's reaction-and weren't we all gasping when she appeared to hate it-but she was just joking!! She loved it. Now we have to see Abby's reaction, and maybe Mamie could come back to say she loves it. How about Jill via Zoom giving her opinion (she'll love it) and bring in a day player to play Mrs Martinez to say she loves it also... I feel bad to keep dumping on this show (not really) but when the choices they make are so inane, it's the only entertainment value the show has. Let's unpack the Nikki birthday story. So Claire wants to throw her Nana a birthday bash as away of endearing Kyle to Victor. Don't quite get the logic there, but OK. She hires a party planner who makes ridiculous suggestions. Slightly annoyed that Y&R are hiring someone for this role for 5 episodes when we never see doctors, co- workers etc. But OK to that to. With all the talk we are expecting something special. What we get is the Jazz Lounge hideously decorated with some ugly tablecloths and a few tacky decorations. They needed a planner for this? Then the guest list consists of family members (no grandchildren)and a few others. Hardly a party. As usual the costuming is pretty awful. A red and black theme ? And our guest of honor is sporting a do that looks like a cross between Cameron Diaz in Something about Mary and Marie from Roxette. They should have had an intimate dinner and ditched all the fanfare. Would have been way more believable.
