Her and the Maestro definitely should have been given a chance as a couple.

Only for camp value. A little of the Maestro's shtick went along way for me.

It really is a shame they didn’t try to give Vanessa a love Interest or life outside of causing trouble for Lorie, Leslie and her sons. Her and the Maestro definitely should have been given a chance as a couple.

In about 1979, when Stuart Brooks was unwinding from his (doomed) marriage to Jill Foster, Vanessa Prentiss convinced herself she'd been alone too long, and perhaps she and Stuart would make a good couple, as her sons were married to a couple of his daughters.  She realized pretty quickly he was in love with Liz, and the story thread was dropped completely.

I always felt that was a missed opportunity.  If Vanessa had been genuinely interested in him (and not just 100% manipulative), it could've made her a more sympathetic character, and it could've pitted her temporarily against Brenda Dickson's Jill.  Vanessa Prentiss, like Kay Chancellor, would've been exactly the kind of rival Jill DIDN'T want to have.

Seeing Vanessa and Jill cross paths would have been gold for sure! but Vanessa and Kay teaming up against Jill or the two of them against one another would have been  a must watch IMO!

I will admit that for fan-fiction purposes that if Lucas had spotted Nikki stripping at the bayou instead of Victor Newman, seeing Vanessa lose her you know what at her son taking such a liking to a stripper of all people could have been hysterical! :D

Although I guess one can argue they sort of did that with Kevin Bancroft and Nikki with Allison disapproving....

I think Bill Bell was toying BRIEFLY in going in that direction.  But "good sense" (or caution) overcame him, and he decided Liz Foster was a more important character to write a romance for, and he thought the audience wanted to see Liz get a "good" man like Stuart and live happily ever after.  Obviously, that didn't work.  Liz and Stuart really didn't belong together at all, Bell married them entirely too quickly, then had to create a separation, then lost interest in ever reconciling them.  By that time, he'd thrown away Vanessa Prentiss in that silly story about jumping off Lorie's balcony.  It was -- in hindsight -- a series of bad decisions, in my opinion.

Mmmm.....that got me thinking that instead of Kevin, Nikki had slept with Lucas.

Maybe Lucas, not getting any action from Leslie or Casey had availed himself of Nikki's womanly wiles and got her pregnant(supposedly) Wanting a child of his own  this time he could have fought to marry Nikki.

That would have kept Lucas in the story and caused problems for Nikki/Casey.

Instead of killing off Vanessa, she could have hung around to been a thorn in Nikki's side and clash with Katherine. Then Lucas is devastated when he discovers Victoria is not his and decides Victor and Nikki must pay. Interesting possibilities.

It's not often that a soap acquired an accomplished, older Hollywood actress in a strange, visible role like KT Stevens had on Y&R.  If I'd been Bill Bell, I would've definitely tried her in some storylines other than the endless Lorie/Leslie/Lance/Lucas "quadrangle drama" that consumed her entirely from her debut in 1976 or 1977 until her exit in 1981.  I'm sure she was hired strictly to be Lorie Brooks' nemesis, and once that was finished, she was fired. I've always thought it was a waste.

No idea where to put this Circus of the Stars as it has performers from GL, Dallas, Dynasty, Knots, and future soap stars like Steve Burton, but I may as well put it here for Don Diamont. Only a partial taping but Don's part is intact.

I would absolutely love to see it from the very beginning.  I don't see why they won't release them with the fact all of them have been saved.  Here's hoping one day they will 🫰

Sony. :(

I feel the same as you, @YRFAN90!! I would literally binge-watch the entire first decade LOL. 1978-1980 and 1983 would be first on my list, though, to watch as complete years. Sadly, though, @lucaslesann23 is right. Sony sucks and will most likely hang on to the complete archive for dear life until the end of time, unless by some miracle they and CBS/Paramount strike a deal for digital redistribution...I still haven't given up hope, though.

In the meantime, I still try to search for classic episodes of the series from the 70's and early 80's (to no avail LOL). It's such a shame that compared to other soaps, there's barely anything available in anyone's collections of episodes from the first decade. It's especially scarce in the 1977-1981 era. I think someone on here once referred to those years as the "lost" era. I sure hope more pop up from the first decade in the coming years.🫰Maybe there's some angel with a huge Y&R collection that just doesn't have them digitized yet...who knows haha.

The talent booker was clearly mandated to grab anyone who would say yes. Ah, well, it is nice that tried for some variety, and that not everyone was on a CBS show.

Re: Nikki & Lucas. They would have been awesome together onscreen. Instead we have had endless decades of her pining and making a fool of herself over the Crypt Keeper.

Poor Lucas never caught a break. I remember several people who watched back then say they never understood Lorie & Leslie fighting over boring and bland Lance when they could have had sexy Lucas.

Lance was a suave sophisticated wealthy businessman. Lucas was a rugged elemental sailor.

Lance was the older son but in real life John McCook is four years younger than Tom Ligon.
