There's even a promo for a February 1982 episode of The Price is Right that pays tribute to Y&R. That's three Y&R themed episodes of TPiR that we know of in the 1980s (February 1982, June 1983, February 1985).

Thank you! I just watched the whole thing, I couldn’t wait! Even the commercials. Wow, there were lots of toothpaste ads back then. And Molly Ringwald at the very end.

The first 18 minutes of the full 1 hour 22 min clip are probably from Monday 1/4/82, the next ep after the New Year’s Eve Victor/Nikki “Dirty Stinker” kiss. At 6:00, there’s a glimpse of Paul waking up in Aspen with Barbara, hungover after getting drunk on champagne the night before.

Hearing the aftermath of the courtroom revelation that Lance is Brooks’ father really makes me want to see that!  (even considering Dennis Cole has no acting ability)

I love Cash Cashman and Katherine! As of 2/1/82, they’re exploring his backstory – and a month later he’s dead? Ugh I think they killed him off to make room for the Bancrofts and Katherine’s “romance with Earl, which IMO was DOA.

Does l’il Michael Damian wear a retainer at this point? He has that slight slur to his speech. So cute.

Loved Lorie’s recounting of the ’76 shooting by Vanessa. Didn’t Snapper treat Lance’s bullet wound? Wonder if he could have helped Lorie’s case somehow…

I thought it was Molly Ringwald! LOL :D

I need to backtrack on all the Lorie stuff now that we have a more chronological list of the videos thanks to the wonderful @will81 I just wish we'd get a lot more full episodes out of these clips!! LOL I would die if any full 1979 came popping up, especially with early MTS Nikki/Paul and the abusive Nick Reed, and of course the Katherine/Jill/Derek/Suzanne stuff!

Cash's story about his mother was very sad, and gruesome, considering how he dies a month later! :( I felt a little uncomfortable at the end the way he drunkingly comes onto to Katherine...They really could have found more to do with him IMO. When do you really ever hear about a lady killer who actually HATES women and is straight as they come??

Loved Paul and Carl confronting Jack. More and More it's hard to believe this is the same swarmy jackass that Bergman has been playing for almost 33 years! two totally different characters at this point.

Lorie  recounting her terrible history with Vanessa and the shooting was great! It just proves that Vanessa really was just an overbearing controlling person who could not be cured from whatever mental sickness she endured.

This seems to be Nov 23 - 27 1981 as we see a very brief glimpse of this when Lorie first meets Robert Laurence, which was that same week.

Thanks! So I had the month correct then.

Just wondering, do you ever plan to finish 1985 on the Soaps of Yesterday Blog? I was using your site to figure out the correct dates for the Soap Opera Digest 80s recaps because they add a lot more detail (sometimes practically recounting the dialogue in a scene). I did that for 1975-1984 so far. And of course once I get to 1986 it will be easy cause there are daily recaps. Just need to finish 1985. No rush, since I'm very busy right now and won't even be able to look at it til May or June, but do know that I still check your site for updates all the time, it was an excellent resource!

Super excited for this 1982 ep, unbelievable :D

Also confirmation that Wes Kenney was with the show at least from Feb 01, 1982. I get the feeling the end credits began listing everyone when he started rather than just the people in the episode. I wonder when he officially took over

That may have been one of his first dates. A few newspapers in March 1982 announced his arrival.

Kenney seems to have been trying to get away from soap directing after leaving Days in January 1980 and had projects in both 1980 and 1981.

Yes I have plans to return to that. Life has been hectic, so I needed to take a break, but things are getting themselves together, so I will have more time for it

From Newsday May 13, 1981 announcement of Steven Ford joining Y&R. This information appeared in several newspapers and all confirm his start date was May 20, 1981.

Thanks @YRfan23 for clarifying Ford’s last air date! I thought so but I was confused as I’ve read it some recaps/synopsis that made it seem like Andy & Faren aired into January ‘88 but I’m guessing it was a delay in publishing and/or throwing in last minute details about the story’s conclusion.

Second half of 1986 through the end of 1987 was a mini-transition era. Ed Scott takes over as EP in November 1986, and June 1987 was the first of the big three late 1980s recasts (Brenda Dickson/Jess Walton). There's also a cast purge w/ the departures of Marla Adams, Colleen Casey, Alex Donnelly, Steven Ford, Lauren Koslow, Julianna McCarthy, Phil Morris, Robert Parucha, Jon St. Elwood, James Storm, Stephanie Williams. Bill Bell casted Lauren Koslow and James Storm on B&B. Marla Adams, Alex Donnelly, Steven Ford, Julianna McCarthy, Robert Parucha, Stephanie Williams would have brief returns years later.

Your welcome! :D We are lucky we have that episode in German and English on here. I don't think we see Faren and Andy anymore after this date.

He's not credited as Ep till October 1987 I think though right? I think Bill Bell had a self credit EP role from Fall 1986-Fall 1987 then he became Senior EP when Ed Scott was promoted?

I think those house cleanings are necessary from time to time as casts become bloated and there needs to be room for new characters.

Don't know I agree with all the choices.

Faren and Andy -yes-they got a happy ending, although it was nice for Paul to have a sidekick

Julianna definitely should have stayed and I think Marla had a place on the canvas.

To write off all of the black characters? Bill should have immediately brought on some new black characters.

Loved Lauren and Alex and both Lindsay and Diane could have been used more- maybe a triangle with Matt Miller?

It is hard to let characters go.

Who would you have dropped at this time?

James Stor
