So, too, was Braeden’s whole experience of working opposite Davidson. “I was really upset when she left,” he admits. As a result, Braeden had a difficult time accepting the actress who succeeded her, Brenda Epperson. “The transition was not the easiest for me,” Braeden admits. “I did not behave exceedingly well with her at first. I was not too nice to her. I missed the old Ashley very much. I’m very honest about that.

“I have since learned to love working with her,” he continues. “She’s a joy to work with, a genuinely warm, kind person, and beautiful to look at. I don’t know exactly what the turning point was. Maybe I finally realized I was being an ass in a sense… It’s not that I was nasty with her. It’s just that I held back. I didn’t give of myself in those early scenes. Then, I got used to her. I began to watch her carefully and see a talent in her. I also began [feeling] upset about my being so unprofessional as to hold back. Brenda and I have since talked about it. I have apologized to her. I’m very enamored of Brenda now,” Braeden insists.

Feeling sorry for Brenda E coming into that situation and having your leading man be less than welcoming.

On the subject of clashes, just reading a 2015 SOD article where actors talk about their character's romances.

On the subject of Jack/Lauren, Tracey Bregman states that Terry Lester didn't like her and therefore the Jack/Lauren relationship.

Wonder if that had any bearing on that relationship never going beyond 'playmates'?

That Terry Lester/Tracey Bregman one is puzzling because someone once posted a picture a few years after Terry left Y&R of him and TEB reunited and they seemed happy. I guess maybe he changed his mind later on? The way TEB words it kind of seems like she's going by what a random person said to her way down the line after TL passed one day,  like: "Oh btw Terry actually didn't want to be paired with you because he didn't like you".

Here's the relevant excerpt from the  article

Jack Abbott (1984, 1989)
What was the attraction? “He was older and very devil-may-care. He didn’t make
any demands on her.”

What worked about their relationship?
“It was purely physical. They weren’t in love and were just having sex without any
strings attached. She was dating Paul at the same time, so I’m sure Lauren found
that very exciting.”

What didn’t work?

“Terry Lester [ex-Jack] didn’t like me and he didn’t like working with me.”

What is most memorable about them?
“I remember them sharing a single bed in Lauren’s dorm room and I was literally
hanging on to the sheets.”

Why did they split?

“She ran off and married Paul.”

Interesting that Eric didn’t accept the Ashley replacement and I watched a few clips of them after I read that. It showed lol From now on I can’t watch Y&R without looking at Eric/Victor and the way he’s acting around others lol

I found this promo because of that and Jack’s return! Played by Peter from now on. This promo is so corny and cheesy but I love it!
Does someone know the name of that guy announcing his return? I can’t place him. Was he a cast member or just a random announcer? Lol

Considering what Brenda was up against  (resistance from Eric and having to replace Eileen)she did a fine job as Ashley.

If only she had been able to bring out that snarky side of Ashley. Same with Peter. He tried to channel a Terry Lester vibe at first but like Brenda it wasn't organic and got lost as their natural acting style came through and Bill Bell adjusted his writing.

Bill Bell started losing interest in the Abbotts around 1987 when Traci role was reduced. Then came the Ashley and Jack recasts which threw off the balance in the family.

To me, BE Ashley and PB Jack are separate characters from ED original recipe Ashley and TL Jack. Considering Traci role was reduced, there were times it felt that Bill Bell wrote BE Ashley like she was both Abbott daughters as one character.

The announcer character "Clarence" is played by actor Brad Sanders.
He also appeared -- newly taped -- WITHIN a Y&R episode on Dec. 27, 2023 as Audra was watching the character Clarence on her laptop doing his "online gossip/news show" talking about Tucker's business dealings.
Brad Sanders approached CBS execs to ask to be included in Y&R's 50th anniversary and that's what they arranged.

There are some 1989 scenes of EB and BE that came across as a chemistry test but I felt there was no connection which is why I always wondered why Bill Bell revisited Victor/Ashley w/ BE in the role.

BE was a serviceable recast but her main storylines (Ashley/Brad/Traci triangle, Victor marriage/divorce, Blade/Rick) didn't really work.

Thank u so much! I really loved that 80’s cheese and him hyping up Jack’s return. It didn’t felt forced. Really genuine! Like that

@kalbir yeah I don’t know but that Ashley and Victor thing seems always to be brought up over the years even if they are in the same story or co exist. I mean I‘M glad they are not together lol

I’m now done with Y&R June 2015 - Ep 10678 to 10699

WOW! I really felt entertained. This month felt more like May sweeps than May itself even though May was strong too.

As far fetched and out there this Marco storyline is.. I ENJOYED it! Like really enjoyed it. I started to really get into it. I really hope Peter enjoyed playing it.

Phyllis getting suspicious and kinda knowing something’s off, Jack and Marisa’s journey from that ship and that island back to GC. Marco and Gabe/Adam working together. Victor shooting THE REAL Jack lol So much going on.My favorite scene was when Adam made up a story about Jack and him and their women and confronted him. So many great twist and turns into this story. And the abbots planning and scheming against Victor was so much fun.

DAMN! Avery got raped? I’ve heard about it but forgot about it. She got stalked and ofc she believes it was Joe! I felt so sorry for poor Avery. I know Jessica Collins wanted to leave and had to give her an exit story BUT WTH? They really turned her into a victim and that after being such a strong character for 4 whole years. It broke me to see her suffer like this.
Jessica Collins was the best addition and one of the best female characters of the 2010’s. I still have a month with her left but I’m surprised they never recasted Avery.

Joe Clark! Gosh. I hate him. I enjoyed his introduction and him being an obstacle between Dylan and Avery. But since they’ve decided to turn him into an abuser he really got on my nerves this month. I don’t know if it’s the actor or the writing but something changed there. Kudos to him for me not liking him. The way he always popped up where a lily was and finally getting into bed with her and stalking Avery. It’s weird. Can’t believe Lily actually hooked up with him. I try to stay away from spoilers but If I remember correctly there is a whole Lily/Joe story coming up ? Like noooo

I wonder if Joe actually raped Avery.

i never mentioned Michael’s subplot with his prostate cancer before but I have to. WHY? What is the purpose of this storyline ? Like honest question? Michael became so unlikeable and so unbearable. I didn’t enjoy any of his pushing Lauren away into Cane’s direction. I even cried when Lauren had her two break downs and when she decided to sign the divorce papers.  Michael has become really annoying and I can’t stand him right now. I dont even feel sorry for his character anymore because of his prostate cancer. I couldn’t care less. Why did the writers had to do this?

Negative of June: Phyllis self righteous! Did Phyllis forgot what she did in the past 90’s/00’s and early 2010’s. The way she read going on and on and on and on about Jack and his lies and bs. Even if she was right about Jack and that he’s different.. She ain’t no saint. Why she so judgmental? Holy cow lol but I do give it to Gina Tognoni and making me feel her suspicion and concern about fake Jack!

and her daughter Summer! Gosh I can’t stand that brat this month. She is such a whining annoying and self righteous child. What does the business war has to do with her? She’s making it all about herself what’s happening between Jack(Marco) and Victor. I tolerated her whinny character this year coz her friend Courtney and her husband Austin got murdered. But she just won’t stop whining. For god sake lol

I always wondered how Braeden really felt being paired with Melody Thomas Scott early back then ? I know they have stated they questioned Bell's reasoning when pairing them and talked about the great romance blah blah blah. MTS would be the last actress I think Braeden would choose from that era. I know Bell would have loved to have kept his new pet paired with JLB's Lorie if she had stayed.

Braeden clearly adored Meg Bennett and always spoke fondly of her. I remember reading a mid 80's SOD blurb with him saying he missed her terribly when she left the show.

    • We get it, you don't like this show or the actors. You've said that over and over again, Mr. Vanguard America/VDARE.
    • Lol at the WSB hot guy asking Joss if she was okay with betraying her friends.  Of course she is! Chase coming in hot at Dante was a choice. It's also quite hypocritical since Chase is lying to him about Dante's own child and making Lulu the bad guy.  Talk to the grown woman yourself Chase.  Don't make Dante do it. Lulu and Laura had some great scenes. The Rocco/Danny party is obvious an anvil for something happening and probably the Gio secret coming out. The Willow/Drew/Nina scenes were kind of anti-climatic?  I get why Nina chose this path as the way to get rid of Drew, but will anyone ever find out Drew was sleeping with Nina?
    • I was reading the NYT article on Roku's purchase of FrndlyTV. As anyone who has read my posting knows, I think re-airing old soaps is an imprudent idea. However, I will admit that if large media companies are looking for more streaming content.  And, if advances in AI continue to make the digitization process faster and cheaper.  Those of you who want the owners of the IP to release anything in their vaults may have reason to be hopeful.  Because the makers of TV's want to get into streaming in order to encourage young people to get back in the habit of updating their TV devices every few years.  And, Roku's plan is market exclusive content, that you have to buy a Roku device to view.  And you-know-who has a ton of content to sell.
    • This was  the messiest hour of television I’ve seen since Kenya Moore asked “who is this hoe?”
    • details of the current Health Secretary RFK Jr's insane beliefs - Doesn't believe that germs cause illness; suggests HIV doesn't cause AIDS; suggests antidepressants are behind mass shootings; believes that vaccines are harmful; suggests chemicals in water are changing children's gender identities... and is quick to promote supplements to prevent and treat diseases, such as recently recommending vitamin A for measles and falsely claiming children who die from the viral infection are malnourished. https://arstechnica.com/health/2025/04/rfk-jr-s-anti-vaccine-stance-is-rooted-in-a-disbelief-in-germ-theory/

I missed the reference at the time, but those DAYS writers really like jokey character names.
    • Unfortunately they are not using this goddess to her potential.
    • Tamara Tunie is a goddess in my opinion.  She can totally bring the mesmerizing acting, when Anita is written for in an active way.  Anita is less interesting when written as a talk-to or a reciter of past events.  I think she'll be more in an active role at some point in the relatively near future? Pretty sure Daphnée is going to bring it soon!
    • At this point I think the core four are highly overrated. And Tamara Tunie's place on this show is an unexpected disappointment.
    • Have to say it, Michael Dietz looked stunningly handsome. The silver fox look suits him perfectly.
