November 10, 201015 yr Member As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Marlena Evans, the true Dr. Marlena Evans, died in that plane crash thanks to Orpehus in 1986. PREACH IT.

It's always amazed me that in a medium ostensibly aimed at women, the women are nothing without their man and their personality is all but removed. It's wrong on so many levels.

November 10, 201015 yr Member Oh Khan, you know we could go on and on and on. That's right, we could. It cannot be said enough how little DAYS understood Marlena as a person after bringing her back in '91. I was so looking forward to her and Wayne Northrop's returns BITD, and the show totally let me down. :-(

November 10, 201015 yr Member I would bring the DHs back for short runs and short-term storylines, 4-6 months at a time. I'd keep John as the sort of callous mercenary he was before he regained his memory that last time; say he relapsed, but still retains a grudging love for Marlena. They could be involved in adventures also showcasing the new generation as well, perhaps Brady, Chloe and Phillip. I've always said I thought Sheffer's re-conception of Chloe as a vixen was genius and far too short-lived compared to the crud she's back to now, and I thought Brady could work if he were manipulated into becoming Stefano's new "Pawn," thereby necessitating the return of John and Marlena in such a story while Chloe perhaps metamorphosized into an Andrea Evans Tina Lord type from '80s OLTL - the vixen involved with good and/or "complicated" men. I think in a tortured Brady and the current Phillip you have both. I think Stephanie has got to be recast and go back to being an adventuress. I think Carly might be salvaged. I think Bill and Laura Horton should both be recast and returned, complete with Bill getting a black doctor son who could clash with a Sarah Horton or something. I think Will should be a scheming little queen trying to ruin his mother and work with Stefano. And I think you could even bring the Devil back in a subtler way. There's a lot of ways to make this show hot again, mixing Bell-style storytelling with the madness Days has become known for. Right now it's just blah. It could be anything. Days should not be blah. It should be insane yet stable and comforting. I like your ideas! And yes, Stephanie should be recast. I just can't imagination this current incarnation being a street-tough racecar driver!!
November 10, 201015 yr Member I love everything you have said. Its time to bring back Sarah and the black horton would be the perfect storyline for Bill and Laura's return and bring a good storyline for them. Jennifer, Laura, Mike, Lucas, and Kate can play into this heavy. I would love to see a romance between Laura and Roman and have Sami, Jennifer, Marlena, Mike, and Carrie involved in that giving their opinions on why and why not they shouldn't be together. I can see Renee Jones having chemistry with John Martin's Bill which will bring in Stefano, Kate, Abe, Jennifer, Celeste, Mike, Laura and others. As much as I respect James Reynolds as an actor, having Abe & Lexie as one of the "untouchable" supercouples has done nothing for the potential of the Lexie character (nor the talented Renee Jones). Freeing up Lexie Carver once and for all would do wonders for the character, the actress, and us as viewers!

I like to pretend that Roman died in 1984, too. I don't mind Hogestyn as Roman, but it's just not the same. Northrop's return was botched beyond belief, much worse than Hall's even. The supercouple era ended up being pretty detrimental, didn't it? Shane and Kimberly, Steve and Kayla. Only Steve really got to establish much of a separate character. None of the characters were really allowed to stand on their own or even think about other relationships. Even if Shane and Kayla and had been better written, who's to say it would have been much better accepted? If Hope hadn't been killed off in 1990, would there have been any acceptance of Bo with Carly or Billie? The characters were too co-dependent.
November 10, 201015 yr Member ^^ Very true. The SuperCouple era was a double edged sword. While the couples were larger than life and had epic romances, they were no longer able to be paired with other partners and that's the kiss of death on a soap opera.
November 10, 201015 yr Member the problem with the show is the writing number 1....get a new head writer who knows the history...aka Sheri Anderson....ive said it before bringing deidre hall back w/o Drake would be a good move. Have john die off screen and have her on the show w/o john. i think she would have great chemistry with that new bill horton! have them hook up off screen and return together or one then the other.
November 10, 201015 yr Member ^^ Nope. The writing might not be the greatest, and some of the stories over the summer were painfully long. However this team brought me back to Days and many others prior to that. Getting rid of DH2 freed the canvas. Kate, Maggie, Caroline, even Vivian now have more opportunities. With the return of Marlena they would be shoved aside… you know it would happen. Now bringing back Bill - that's a whole host of story possibility with the way the current canvas is going. I can't think of a single other legacy character who would be able to walk into stories like he can right now.

I with they would bring him back and put him in a story with Koslow/Kate. Edited November 10, 201015 yr by Kennylicious
November 11, 201015 yr Member Did you see John Martin in the role earlier this year? He was quite good. I with they would bring him back and put him in a story with Koslow/Kate. Yes, that's the one I'm talking about. He had amazing chemistry with Kate. I think he would be ideal: he would balance out the numbers of men/women in the senior age range, be the COS and the hospital, help Jenn with whatever bug-a-boo she's dealing with, Interfere in Maggie's life, and connect with his two grandbabies. Instant story inclusion.

I loved how lexie held her own during the baby switch storyline, how she stood up to stefano when she returned from the dead. Lexie is a great character and should be a character you better not cross or f with. Abe have chemistry with Maggie and would have love to see that explored but now I am enjoying MAGIC!!
