A lot of people are questioning the value of a college education. It has little to do with being an "idiot." I personally spent over $100K and got a 3.9 GPA at a respected university, only to wind up with a yearly salary that I felt was lower than what I deserved. I then got laid off (as all overhead personnel did) after the company I worked for was acquired by a larger business. Upon looking for other jobs, I can tell you that my degree and GPA meant next to nothing to employers. So, I am soon going back to graduate school, and thus, my whole undergraduate time was a waste. (And the graduate degree may still not lead to a good job; in that case, I will have to study for the extremely difficult CPA Exam.)

If instead, a person decided to skip the enormous cost burdens of college and decided to enter the workforce immediately upon graduating high school, they most likely would have a lot more money than me. Thinking that college is "the only way" is very much an elitist attitude (though I am not suggesting that you necessarily feel this way), and it is also highly outdated, since a college degree really doesn't mean what it used to.

What is wrong with calling people "folks"? It is just a formal way of being polite (that I sometimes use in conversation). I never thought that it referred to rural America. And if it does, so what? Not everybody thinks that big cities are the ideal.

Very little of FNC's airtime is devoted to talking about global warming. I personally disagree with the far-right position that states that global warming doesn't exist. But I also don't agree with the liberal position that seems to suggest that global warming is solely or primarily caused by humans. I personally think there is a middle ground, and that the human effects are combining with natural occurrences in the ecosystem to cause the current climate changes. Sorry if this makes me a simpleton.

Same.

Not once have I ever looked to "The View" as a genuine source of news and information. "The View" is a daytime talk show, aimed specifically toward women of a certain age and income. You can't hold it to the same light as, say, "Meet the Press," or even "Today." However, I do expect it always to feature a panel of hosts who are sober and informed, regardless of political, social or religious ideologies. Which is why I so miss the days of Meredith Vieira and Lisa Ling. It might not have been as, um, fun as it is now, but it was a show which treated the average viewer with respect.

I can't wait for Barbara to go. Lord she's so annoying. She constantly interrupts and I just adore how Sherri and Whoopi throw her shade when they do. Sherri got so annoyed the audience laughed. Barbara caught it and even questioned it but Sherri played it off.

The show has lost it's edge, honestly. I agree that with Rosie it was the last real attempt and now it just feels like COMPLETE fluff. Not that it wasn't fluffy before, but they at least tried to be serious at times.

I personally think Jenny gets a bad rap. I only really watch it for Whoopi. I don't always agree with her, but for the most part I do.

I also don't think there's that much hate anymore. Star's been back, Debbie's been back. Rosie's been back. It's not going to be a reunion like the Real Housewives have. Wigs won't fly, punches won't get thrown. It's clear that at the end of the day they all respect Barbara. I don't get this fascination with women hating each other.

I miss the days of Meredith and Lisa. Hell, I even miss Joy.

I think college is highly overrated. Either you got it or you don't. Going to college does not equal an intelligent, successful career, if your'e a bit dim to start with, all it turns out is educated idiots. My particular career is not one that requires a degree, although you "could" have one and maybe be a bit more successful. But I went to my school of choice, and talked to the horticulture professor, and once I determined I knew more than HE DID.. I thought "Why?" Why pay tens of thousands of dollars to be taught something by a person who knows LESS than you. What's the point. Save your money, go to the library and teach yourself. That's what I did. You only have to go to college if your'e a doctor or other profession that absolutely requires a degree of some kind.

Will miss Barbara....not sure why she's so hated but she's been a constant presence on television ever since I started being aware of the bigger world outside my house. Now as a twenty something year old it strikes me just how long of a history she's had as a journalist. I respect her game and I wish her nothing but the best....

    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.
    • Good morning, boys!  I figured that it was time that our Gio was introduced into the hotness thread

@ranger1rg I even included a close up of his face for ya!
    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.

Me when someone asks me to be proper and demure.
    • This is just a guess but I feel like the fact that they keep mentioning her dead husband is for a reason. We know Martin has a secret that likely involved someone dying. Martin's victim could be Alan which Leslie/Dana either knows about or finds out and she uses that to blackmail the family into letting her crimes slide.
    • Just thinking how the Ruth/Leticia guest spot really cemented how Days had changed. Stunt casting with a campy/comedy character in a 'wacky' storyline was something that a few years previously would have been completely out of place on Days (and most other soaps for that matter).
    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.
