DAYS: Discussion for the month of June

Yeah, that grade sounds about right. I don't think I'm spoiling too much by saying there is still one more day of the Alice tribute on Monday. There is the reception at the Horton house. Originally, the tribute was to end today but the pre-emption a couple of weeks ago threw the schedule off.

There was way too much of the Chloe/Daniel/Carly storyline. Up until yesterday, Alice's death was not featured as prominently as it should have been. I have enjoyed all the flashbacks and the returns. Kudos to John Martin as I thought nuBill really fit right in. I did have a good cry today with the graveyard scenes.

Yes, she was there. She spoke briefly with Lucas, Doug and Julie. She didn't speak and was way in the background but you did see her again when everyone dropped roses on the casket.

I really am disappointed that we didn't get to see the church service funeral. That so could have been Thursday's episode, and then it could have followed into the graveside ceremony in today's ep. Hearing Sami talk to Kate about how the church was full and all that made me feel like I missed a part. DAYS could have taped a church service for this, to.

It wasn't until Hope started her speech that the emotions started hitting me. KA did a fab job, she gave it her all in those scenes. Also big kudos to Bryan Dattilo, Lisa Trusel, and the little Actress playing Ciara!! Loved that shot of her crying and the tear dropping, that was perfect! Sorry but we did not need to see Sami/Rafe and Kim/Shane/Bo/Hope at the end, it just didn't fit and it could have waited until next week. DAYS should have pro-longed that Alice montage, and just ended the show with the picture of Alice, slow fadeout. It was overall a great episode, though.

Kate/Sami moments were great, also.

I totally get many of the complaints and criticisms that people are voicing, and of course it wasn't perfect, but I have found this whole thing -- not just today's episode, but the past 2 weeks or whatever -- to be really lovely. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the little moments with the returnees, taking the time to play the natural beats that would come with these people returning to town: Carrie talking about Anna, Kayla and Melissa coming together over their kids dating, the mini-story with Kim and Shane. They've been played as real characters, not props. The only thing that was "bad" to me was the way that Wednesday's show ended with stupid Chloe instead of on the news of Alice's passing.

I'm not entirely certain why they didn't just use St. Luke's for a service instead of doing the cemetery thing, since it seems like it had to be one or the other. That was a strange choice, especially because it felt so bizarre to build up to everyone heading to the service and then have it take place during the commercial break. The timing was jarring.

There was a great moment in Thursday's show where Hope said to Jen, "I can't believe we're going to Gran's funeral." That was such a real moment to me, the kind of thing you find yourself saying at those times because it doesn't even seem like real life.

Word to all of this. I agree with everything you have said.

This has been done rather realistically.

I also like that Mike didnt make it to her in time. That happens. But the plot points around it were stupid, his flight should have just been grounded or rerouted.

I will say it did fit Mike's character to miss saying goodbye to her as he historically goes through tragedy after tragedy, through no fault of his own. However, as a whole, there were some nice little moments but it still majorly disappointed in the typical bland Dena Higley way.

In a perfect world, every Horton and major character on the show should have been at that funeral. Alex Marshall, Neil Curtis, Susan Martin Peters etc ...

Plus, the show missed a huge chance to invigorate the show with some new Horton blood. Not to mention, the whole thing felt very rushed and formulaic, especially since all the scenes were 5 seconds compared to the Chloe BS scenes that always lasted double the amount.

I'd give it a B- as well.

The Sami propping didn't help, considering Kate should never have even monetarily thought she was a good mother because she ISN'T! I won't even get all the Carrie crap that was completely ridiculous.

I agree Sami wasn't the best mom but she did what she had to do for her kids. I enjoyed the sami and carrie scene cause it brought closure to their bad history. Carrie had much reason to apologize because she was not perfect herself.

I agree about having other returnees like Susan Martin, Alex Marshall, Phyllis Anderson to name a few. If not returns, phone calls or letters.

I must say the episode brought tears to my eyes, the staff did the episode and the past weeks how they visioned it. They did a great job to me. Perfect returns, excellent casting of Bill. Just lovely.

I wish this could be the daily cast from here on out with a few added on.

For me, the tribute held an A+ ranking mostly throughout. The way the brought back the characters, had them interact, intertwined flashbacks, and really brought the aspects of how Alic really was the glue to the family really really touched me.

However, my rating went down for a couple of reasons.

1) The announcement of Alice's death should have been the show ending on the day that it happened. They shoved it aside for more news about Chloe's pregnancy. Not that I'm not interested in that storyline, but OBVIOUSLY it could have waited to be announced for a few more days, since they haven't mentioned it since. And while the announcement between Maggie/Melissa was touching, it would have been much better IMO, of Maggie had walked down the stairs, while the entire family was gathered in the living room. No one notices that Maggie's crying at first, but then Hope, or someone, asks what's wrong. Maggie whispers "Alice has passed.", the camera pans out and shows the devastated looks on the family members faces, and fades to a picture of Alice and Tom.

2) Mike not being able to visit his Grandmother. This just really, really bothered me. There was absolutely NO reason for that. His time in the hospital didn't PROVIDE anything. Sure, he caught up with Carrie and Lexie, but both of them were at the funeral, so he could have shared a scene with them there. If there had been a true, thought out reason to Mike not getting to see Alice, I would have been okay with it. But it seemed pointless and a little disrespectful to me. I was willing to overlook this, until he ALSO missed her funeral. That was just to much for me....COME ON. He had no serious injuries, and it was just wrong on so many levels that he didn't get t be with his Grandma in ANY way...What was the point of bringing him back just to ruin the return?

3.) Marie didn't speak at the funeral. This just plain BUGGED me. I mean, everyone else spoke. Including NON family members, such as Caroline and Bo..If they got to speak, why wouldn't Marie speak at her OWN MOTHER'S funeral? That would never happen, and what would it have taken? Thirty seconds? They could have cut down someone elses speaking time, or just all out elminated the useless scene at the end with Kimberly and Shane. I can't remember if Bill spoke or not, but I don't think he did...Somehow this bugs me less, and I assume they did it because it was a nuBill, and they were focusing on actors who knew and cherished Frances..Still, he should have said SOMETHING (and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think he did)...But for me, Marie not speaking was utterly dumb. Honestly, I would have rather heard her speak than Nathan (who never shared a scene with Alice) or Bo, who might have had a family like relationship with Alice, but was not her direct relative. Marie should have spoken.

4). The montage of Alice should have been longer. There were so many memories/people that got left out. I know you can't include everything, but they could have done better. I didn't need the Sami/Kate scenes. Sure, they were nice and emotional, but I would have rather seen more ALICE, and have Sami and Kate speak monday.

So overall, I would give the show a B+ for this. I give them an A for effort, but the execution lacked in many ways.

I had no expectations for this, and thought it would be a slopilly thrown together nightmare, so I was pleasantly surprised...And I'm glad it turned out as good as it did, because I really had my doubts.

would have liked to hear Marie speak, Laura and Bill speak more today...it seemed very rushed and when they all stood around in a group after the roses..the only oddly missing people in the group were Mike Marlena Roman and Billie.

I watched the episode again and enjoyed it more

One thing I noticed, why did Sami refer to the penthouse as "Marlena's Penthouse"??? uhm that is your MOTHER, you should have said "my moms penthouse" or something. Major DOY!!

LmBO!!!!!! Missed this post somehow. LOL wow that would have been even better. I think of all people, Kate would be the one that i would want to know and for Will to turn to, if DAYS ever goes that route. Just because they've been getting more close to each other in the last few weeks, even months, and she understands him a lot more than Sami does. She would keep Will's secret, and stand by him no matter what i think.

The actor playing Mike wasn´t available till 14 or so days after the taping of these episodes was over. The show went way out of their way to still incorporate him atleast someway and they brought back Missy and Christie for another day to tape all these hospital scenes. And Make GETS to see Alice and says his farewell words on Monday after everyone is already gone and it´s one of the best moments.

Anyway, I must say what I liked best at these returns was the way the show used them to higlight current stories and characters. Usually these characters from wayback just come back as some glorified extras, have few words in mostly separated scenes and it feels very forced. But the way they used Bill to show a different side of Kate and even some lingering tension between them and Laura, Jennifer having hard time to choose between her best friend and Hope, or Kayla and Melissa showing their relieve Melanie is no longer part of Nathan´s life made them relatable even for viewers like me, who sees most of these returness as a bunch of strangers.

Of course, there was some politics too, like Carrie and her mending fences with Sami, further pushing the notion that Sami is now the leading heroine of the show, or the most vague way ever they mentioned Jennifer´s life in England and her children because they want to keep open up all possibilities (like desorasing Abby so she fits into the Chad/Will/Gabby group) in case Jennfer will come back later fulltime.

But overall, I think the show did a good job. I´m surprised there was so few flashbacks, as they are the cheapest and very effective way how to fill the episodes (and it seems many scripted were cut off) but I quess with youtube and other sites hosting so many of past scenes and episodes (it´s not like the show doesn´t know it´s there) they no longer think flashbacks are something valuable.
