I think it would be an interesting twist to have Noah's surgery not be a success, he's still blind and by this time Reid and Luke are hot like fire. Noah, who's become bitter and depraved at his prospects (especially as Luke tells him the Noah he fell in love with is gone, so they could never get back together), starts plotting against Luke and Reid. Crazy is obviously in his genes, so he was bound to snap at some point. Plus, nothing like a homicidal blind gay guy running around to put things in perspective.

I like the idea of Noah's surgery to restore his eyesight not being successful, but I'm not as sure about everything else. For one thing, you'd have Nuke fans, however many are still out there, screaming "CHARACTER ASSASSINATION!" almost immediately. For another, it just seems like a copout to have Noah become a head case in order to facilitate any sort of Luke/Reid union or reunion.

I'd much rather see Noah fall into a downward, emotional spiral when he realizes he will never be able to see again. Luke has clearly moved on (with Reid); at the same time, however, Noah was his first love, so he feels compelled to try and help Noah regain his self-esteem. Reid cannot stand it, though, because he is secretly afraid he will lose Luke back to Noah. Therefore, Reid responds by becoming very distant and cold toward Luke, to the point where Luke cannot take any more abuse and decides to end the relationship.

Noah, on the other hand, "sees" right through Reid's insecurity and calls him on it, telling him how foolish he is to allow his pride to get in the way of having a terrific relationship with someone (Luke) who brings out his humanity. (It's the first real sign that Noah will be "okay.") Once Noah makes it clear he has no intention of reuniting with Luke, he and Reid patch up their differences, and Reid sets about winning back Luke.

Now, at this point, you could have Noah and Reid pretending to fall for each other in order to make Luke jealous, since Luke might not be so quick to take Reid back. Who knows where that could lead, you know? It might provide for some comic moments, as well as a tease or two toward a possible Reid/Noah hookup. In the end, though, Reid and Luke do reconcile, leaving Noah free to pursue other relationships. Although he has experienced a setback, too, Noah gradually realizes how the loss of his eyesight does not necessarily mean the end of his filmmaking aspirations. If anything, it inspires him to push forward (with the help of an assistant who, in time, becomes his new love interest) while simultaneously bring out new and different layers to his character.
