OLTL: Jean Passanante joins writing team

She and AMC's new writers are going to run out of soaps sooner or later.

OLTL is TOAST and AMC is next!

This is like when someone joins as a consultant — you just know he or she will be the next head writer. She secured a job really quickly, months in advance. And it's not a competing soap — it can't be when it got cancelled.

Land at OLTL as HW immediately, not AHW.

I honestly think ABC is done supporting Carlivati (if they ever supported him to begin with and tired of the show's tanking demos and ratings). They already hired Kreizman/Swajeski for AMC, so it would be no surprise if they hire another hack from a canceled PGP soap.

This is of course a likely possibility too.

I dunno why, I have a feeling they're putting her as AHW to prep her to take over for RC. I think RC is a goner, maybe by the summer.

That was there chance to make Binks straight. As for Rosa her problem was they hired a 30 year old to play her. The actress plays the ADA on LAw@Order!

I actually never thought they were supportive of his "efforts". They just used him for some sinister or God-will-know-which end. His appointment always rang weeeiirrrd, fishy to me.

So that she can familiarise herself with the current canvas even though she "knows" the show. You can already see a sh!tty statement for the press about her naming.

OLTL is very crappy and unwatchable at the moment; so I say give her a chance.

And if we take this at face value — Jean coming as BDW only — she is like some replacement for Frederick Johnson?!

The ratings have been sucking for far too long.

Something has to be done, if they are serious about keeping it.

Well I'm not shocked by this news. Certainly find it frustrating that soaps continue to hire the same hack writers over and over. You don't see this happen in prime-time to this extent. Time to bring in some new fresh blood and stop recycling the same bad people. I suspect she's being brought in to bring the show to a close and that Ron will probably be out by summer. Sad for OLTL. Last year it was so good and watched everyday, but now it's just a total crapshoot and about to get worse with this news.

I am. I shouldn't be for the reasons you mentioned, but I'm truly shocked. I actually thought this was an April Fool's Day joke or a horrible rumor when I saw it mentioned on another board.

I can't see another Dena Higley type situation, where she sucked on one soap(OLTL), but was actually alot better at another(Days)

Well on the bright side, this should hush the OLTL cancellation rumors for now.

This is going to be a very interesting next couple of months for this show.....
