OLTL: Discussion for the week February 8

Oh, wow, I completely forgot about that. Is it possible someone who is still at ABC all of these years later (is there anyone still left at ABC with that kind of power from back then? Wasn't his AMC stint even before Angela Shapiro was in charge?) keeps punishing him for that by foisting these increasingly odious scenarios on him whenever they bring him back to OLTL? The irony is he's not under contract now, so he could just walk away legally the second they say to him, "So, after you've electro-shocked your daughter, you're going to talk to God and have an epiphany, and then you're going to climb into bed with her..." but it could be that he needs the money a lot more now, after ten years of being blacklisted (for the most part). It does seem like it's a fight to bring him back - both times they seemed to be hinting at his return for a long time, and this time especially it's been years of foreshadowing that Mitch is Rex's father - and then it ended up devolving into this creepy, incestuous, sci-fi/horror mess.

I've already broken a self-imposed boycott of this show (after only missing one episode) when I read about Roxy's scenes, but in my defense I watched those scenes on YouTube and did my best to fast forward through (just about) everything else. Anyway, I did love those scenes, and I have to say I don't think it's ridiculous that they're friends. Kyle saved Roxy's grandson (without Roxy having to admit who the donor was) and she's certainly pulled enough scams herself that I don't think she'd hold a grudge for long just because he tried to blackmail her later on when he was between a rock and a hard place. Two outsiders who've made plenty of mistakes but have never raped or murdered or tortured anyone and just want to love and be loved showing some compassion for each other is the kind of thing that sometimes still happens on this show that isn't ridiculous, IMO. It's just too bad that for every scene like that we seemed doomed to get at least 10 scenes of rapist fathers bonding with/victimizing their daughters.

HA I love your conspiracy theory, though I doubt ABC Daytime is that complex with their actions. To be fair, it wasn't just that his AMC character was turning into such a disateful villain, it was the fact he was turning into a villain when I think roscoe was hoping to play a romantic lead with Julia Barr (he was sick of playing villains though he had just finished his stint as a more or less good guy in The City in a role tailored around his singing). In his recent SOD interview he also mentioned he was more pretentious then, always thought he was better than soaps something he claims (and probably has) come around from now. And Mitch has always been a bad guy (if not quite on this level), so...

And yeah, I can get behind the Roxy/Kyle stuff for the same reasons you can--and it's not like Roxy has ever been consistant with who she holds grudges against, and who not...

Yeah, the issue was that Jim was sold to him as a romantic lead and then became a pornographer. I'd heard somewhere that they actually tried to sell him on Jim being "redeemed" after the Laura reveal, or something, but they may be a misquote. I know he was outraged about the "terrorist bomber" angle. Whereas Mitch has always been a bad guy; RB knew that going in.

After your water breaks you continue to produce amniotic fluid and it continues to trickle out of your body. If labor didn't progress naturally it would have had to be induced, but there isn't any reason for Rex to know that. Skye and (possibly) GiGi would though.

Not all of us were watching 7 years ago. If I had been I would have complained back then and started bitching again now. It's a putrid storyline completely inappropriate for daytime, imo.

Is that supposed to make it right or desensitive whats going on now? As bad as it was before, OLTL just included a whole other level of disgust and cringe by adding the fact that he is trying to impregnate her. Intentionally trying to get one's daughter pregnant is absolutely revolting and yes this is a whole lot worse than before.

Dani and Destiny are BFFs now? I guess thats better than them hating each other for no valid reason, but this turn happened way too fast with no development or natural transition. Its like one day they are fighting and hating on each other and now they're ready for slumber parties and shopping at the mall. Um, whatever OLTL

I think they may have realized that the message being sent with the young skinny white girl running over the somewhat fuller figured dark-skinned girl were possibly not going to please some viewers, not to mention all the months spent developing Destiny and Matt as friends, only for that to go out the window when it was time for Danielle propping. And I thought the actress who plays Dani was leaden in their confrontational scene, so there was even less need to go there again.

Isn't it strange that after all the time spent over the past few years excusing and justifying anything and everything people like Rex or Todd do, there's such a big emphasis on how morally wrong it will be if Charlie or Dorian kill someone like Mitch, who has committed so many reprehensible acts and will keep on doing such.

The last 2 weeks have been non-stop Todd and Tea and I don't know whether they are insufferably boring or boring and insufferable. You know something is wrong when Matthew and Cole's love lives show more complications. I never want to hear about how great they make the show. Speaking of not holding my interest, I just love how Todd and the other Cramers are still not doing anything about Mitch.

First things first: John and Natalie made me sick on my stomache. Whomever put this episode together must have forgotten that it was airing right near the same time that Mitch was about to rape his brain-dead daughter and that's almost how it felt watching John making out with Natalie yesterday. She was not in her right frame of mind. And he sucks knowing that he is making out with her and his poor girl Marty was left home holding the bag and likely in jail. Just one week in John's world and Natalie reverts to being a needy, whiny and insecure woman who has to beg him to show her affection again. I love Natalie and I love when she takes care of business but there is no way that I will ever buy John as a replacement for Jared.

To me today's show was rather anti-climatic. Starr is far too worried about her newfound sister and it doesn't make sense. Wouldn't she be more worried about how Jack is going to react when he finds out that he has yet another older sister? I guess that's too much to expect. Why should Star worry about that? Todd has never worried this much about making things right with Starr after he threw her down the stairs and beat her boyfriend to a pulp.

I was expecting Dani to talk to Matthew about how she knows exactly how it feels to have a crazy father like Mitch Laurence and instead we got a horribly contrived Teen Sandwich.

And note to RC! It is not entertaining to watch people meander through the snow for 7 days!

    • Thanks for the fuller story.  Steve Guthrie was a loss to the show, but I can't really blame Nicholson.
    • Albee clashed with co-star Lee Godart, who portrayed villain Eliot Dorn . At the time, the Edge of Night cast participated in a charity baseball league with other New York-based soaps. Albee, an American, was very competitive about the games, whereas Godart – a French actor unfamiliar with baseball – was not as skilled. Tensions reportedly flared when Albee berated Godart’s athletic performance and even mocked his nationality during these games . Godart took offense and complained to the executive producer, who warned Albee to stop harassing his castmate . Albee either ignored this warning or didn’t take it seriously, and continued to needle Godart. As a result, when Albee’s next contract option came due, Nicholson chose not to renew it – effectively terminating Albee’s role on the show
    • I can't remember exactly, but I think the claim was it involved a team baseball game.
    • Sorry to hear that - take whatever time you need.
    • @MaximI sing this in my head so dang often!!!!
    • Not as caught up as everyone else but I just wanted to add, the show being played for laughs is gone and I’m happy about it, that’s exactly how the show was during the strike.
    • I love the early years of GH.... Does anyone know where I can find information of the stories from 1963 and 1964??  Thank you!!

    • Uh, yeah, huh?!!! Seriously, that was a brilliant line but its acumen is strictly from how hilarious. We imagine Joss in Carly's kitchen breaking the news that she's realized she's gay & Carly is unconcerned & then drops that it's Emma she's in love with ... time comes to a screeching halt!!! I think Moss would likely be thrown hard against the wall. Can you imagine Carly & Robin as mothers of the brides together?
    • @DRW50 Thanks for these. Upcoming: Rest in Peace, Denise Alexander, Ruth Buzzi and Priscilla Pointer Updating:   Max Gail, @Xanthe -- Will Lyman, who was lost in the shuffle a year ago, but his update from last year will be typed up;  New: Michelle Hurd and Shanola Hampton and others I'll b updating the edit-able profiles, too.
