@Reverend Ruthledge I sure won't argue one way or the other. The first time I ever laid eyes on Penny was when Douglas Marland brought her back for periodic episodes in the 1980s. My parents (who'd watched World Turns since Day One) would always get excited when Penny reappeared, and Penny was always the subject of much discussion around our house, lol. I wish someone who remembered Neil Wade was around to ask, but I don't know of anyone. I just flipped through that old book Robert Laguardia wrote, and he opined that Jeff Baker had been killed in a car wreck (probably true) and Neil Wade was losing his vision and was struck and killed (which could go right back to the embolism you referred to).

Judith Light had already left the show by the time Kim arrived. Janice Lynde did not join the show until after Kim was gone. I don't think those other ladies would have had any sway either.

Heads up to those who avoid spoilers - don't watch the closing credits today.

This is what AI just told me (haven't audited the response), but gosh I hope it wasn't Judith Light! "In 1983, "One Life to Live" featured several leading ladies.Notable actresses included Phylicia Ayers-Allen as Courtney Wright, Jane Badler as Melinda Cramer, Judith Light as Karen Wolek, and Ellen Holly as Carla Gray. Janice Lynde also joined the cast in 1983 as Laurel Chapin, a character who would later be a central figure in the show."

Julie Poll's 40th Anniversary Book states that he died of an embolism. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that either. As I've learned after collecting scripts is that no history book is 100% reliable. I have scripts from right after Neil died but I don't think I have any from the time of his death. Penny is talking about moving on after Neil's death but I don't think there is any specific mention of the way he died. I believe it happened off-screen. Neil and Penny had moved to New York and were off the show during that time. I THINK. So, the manner of his death could have just been a line somewhere. -
Thanks @alwaysAMC Kim was on OLTL for closer to six months, not three, but I suppose it's easier to remember as three. I know there were claims of Jacquie Courtney's closeness to a producer, but I doubt she had any involvement here as she was written out around the same time Kim was on the show. I don't remember the Echo story being all that well-received from the bits I've read over the years, but that was not a time the show was pleasing most of its viewers.

I assumed it wasn't Erika nor Robin, as she was complimentary of them both in the chapter. She referred to Erika as "the wonderful Erika Slezak" and Robin as "the unbelievably talented Robin Strasser". So, it's gotta be another leading lady at the time. Hmm... And in reference to the situation she said "As the old saying goes, "It's not who you know; it's who you blow!" LOL. She definitely was burned on the way out.
