Rux, thanx for the great pick. I'm getting why they cast Grayson as NuDusty: both actors have almost the same eyebrow wax and glassy eyes.

The New Year's eppy was fine for any day aside from New Year's. This was the first year without a real World Turns NY eve party.

I can remember back to the 1980's when Marland wrote for the show. My memory is choppy but after Bob and Kim got married they had a big bash. I remember Lisa stayed home because she didn't have a date. In the eppy she lied to Bob, to save face, and told him she was at all these glam parties. The scene ended with her holding a bottle of Champ looking smashed!

It is sad that the only 'party' we got this year showcased a naked Craig. Carly and Jack should have done a count down as they watched his balls drop.

BTW, who wants to bet that Casey eventually pawns Nancy's wedding band to settle gambling debts! How the mighty Hughes have fallen. I can see Ally doing another porn flick just to pay the bills! Alley does Oakdale, anyone?

Geez...Brian Bloom was truly immaculate then, even with the Oscar the Grouch eyebrows (which are kinda appealing on him). I always wonder if he'd stuck around, Lily/Dusty would be Lily's big pairing instead of Lily/Holden.

One of my many New Year's resolutions is to see this show through to the end. My watching was pretty spotty all throughout 2008-2009, so I really want to go back home to Oakdale to be there for its end.

Happy New Year!

LOL...I think this year's NYE countdown with Carly and Jack was an improvement on last year. I don't even recall a party last year. If it was, it was probably centered on NOTMaddie/Casey/Ali.

This year's bowchicka-bowbow with Jasty was...just nasty, IMO.

"If he'd stuck around" being the operative words, lol. I got the impression long ago that Brian Bloom left because he couldn't understand why Doug Marland and Robert Calhoun didn't utilize him as much as previous regimes when he was supposedly one of WT's most popular actors. (Geez, Bloom, ego much, lol?) To answer the question, though, Marland seemed so set on Lily/Holden that I doubt if Dusty would've ended up as Lily's true love (although, certainly, that was where the show had been heading before Marland's arrival). And the truth is - sorry, Marland, but I gotta say this - once Holden walked in on Dusty and Lily, that should've been the end for her and Dusty and for her and Holden. IMO, Holden was foolish to become romantically involved with Lily ever again (although, building a strong friendship w/ her over time wouldn't have been out of the question); and once she and Dusty did make love for the first time, it felt to me as if their relationship had run its course as well. Subsequently, Marland should have transitioned all three - Dusty, Holden and Lily - into new relationships.

Holden and Lily were always the endgame. I thought Dusty and Lily were great as friends. When Holden caught Dusty and Lily together I didnt think it would be over. I thought the big damage was when Holden slept with Julie and conceived Aaron. To this day I still hate the rewrite that they did with Holden and Molly. Out of nowhere appeared a daughter he never you of and we were suppose to believe Holden was involved with Molly during the Lily years....ugh. And who could forget the rewrite that Paul and Dusty were best buds...double...ugh!

I hate when TIIC rewrite history, then refuse to use it. Why the fluck bother saying Dusty and Paul were buds, when reminding the audience they'd once been stepbrothers who hadn't gotten along would have sufficed? It would have fit the story better (since it was the story anyway...*eyeroll*). It's the same with Henry suddenly being a Stenbeck. WTF for? Three months of story, that's never going to be followed up on?

[!@#$%^&*] like that drives me crazy.

Marland's end game was to make the Snyder and Walsh families the main power players in Oakdale. To do this, it was vital to link Lily and Holden. It played on class issues and he wanted to tell a story about the haves and have nots. I still remember Lucinda comparing the Snyder clan to a greedy Walton family.

The Snyder family just kept growing and growing during the Marland years while The Hughes and Stewart familie more or less got smaller. I think he saw his 'muse' Lily and Holden not just as a supercouple but also the shows vortex. In a way, I wish he had never created the Snyders because they dominate the show now. If there had been no Snyders, we'd be watching the lost generation of Hughes...Frannie, Chris, Andy...and Stewarts...Betsy, Danny, Dee,Daniel...and the myrid of other characters who somehow just got lost. Think about how many kids they should have had by now. Also, I wish Emma would buy a new refrige and do something with that ugly hot water tank ;-)

I don't think we'd be watching the Hughes if the Snyders weren't around. Most likely they would just be another family in place of the Snyders. The show tried to replace the Snyders with the Kasnoffs in the mid-90s. It didn't work.

Marland wrote for the Hughes family through his entire tenure. He did squander his creation of Sabrina, but otherwise, all the Hughes got decent storyline and remained prominent. The lack of use started after his passing but it was only under Goutman/Sheffer that I think the family really started to decline, and Goutman has continued to shun them.

I think the Stewarts were always going to be hurt after Meg Ryan left (although I really liked Lindsay Frost) and after Dee and Annie were aged and recast so many times. Ellen's sons were also dead. Something could have been done, they could have brought in more of Dee's or Annie's kids, but Marland did write frequently for Susan and made Emily a huge star, and kept Ellen around. It was after his passing that the rot set in. Even then, they did try with Dani, it seemed like the late 90s when the show gave up on the Stewarts for good, aside from Emily and Allison.

It is kind of funny because the Stewarts were always my favorite family. I am too young to really remember Dee but always loved Susan, Emily and dippy Ellen. The one good thing Sheffer did was give Susan some attention with the silly Rick Decker story. Also, she was great in scenes with the last actor who played Allison. These days, Susan is no where to be found. She wasn't even working the day that Brad died. I would love seeing her reaction to Emily as Mick's lab rat.

There were moments when Sheffer did okay. I think he really liked writing for both the Stewart and Ryan families and did put them back on the canvas. Both Babs and Susan had been MIA before he arrived. I wish the same could be said for Pissy who, if anything, has deconstructed these families. BTW, I never knew that the Kasnoffs were intended to replace the Snyders. Mike and his bro were hot but, otherwise, rather lame and I can't remember any other family.

I hadn't really thought about it in those terms...but the influx of Kasnoffs did occur during a Snyder family lull. But I also don't doubt that the show brought Holden back once Shawn Christian made the decision to go.

Mike and Mark have a sister Sarah. She was on probably six to nine months, hooked up with John Howard's Paul, and left early in '97. When people cite the low point of the '90's, they wail about Zoe(a whiney model friend of Sarah's who briefly flirted with Ben)/Sarah/modelPaul.
