OLTL: Discussion for the week October 19

Is it just me, or were all of Tom's literary references a *bit* precious? Do we have that to look forward to in every scene he's in? Cuz that could get real old real fast, a cute character quirk, but go easy on it OLTL.

I do have a MAJOR problem with the fact that Todd's new daughter is older than Jack. Sometimes, I wish the writers would do just follow timelines and history. Dani does seem like a firecracker, very much like her parents. I was kind of hoping there would be more of a question of her paterntity - but it's already been decided she's Todd's child.

Can't root for Todd and Blair in this situation. Blair is being completely pathetic, lying to Todd about Tea/Ross "trying to take his money." How does Todd fall for this, everytime? I guess I shouldn't have to ask that question, haha...

Todd falls for this because they have to make him the victim in the storyline.

Todd and Tea seem more prone to bouts of blank facial expressions or weeping than firecracker status, at least to me. Tea does like to rant in court but underneath is the usual martyr/victim, and Todd, at heart, is the same.

I think it would be more interesting if this girl was sheltered and then when she came to Llanview, began to act out.

Yes Danielle shouldn't be older than Jack, but I'm still looking forward to the fallout. On soaps you can't really do much with prepubescent kids in that 9-13 year old range. They're too old to be precious but too young to date, so they instead spend a lot of time playing video games and clinging to their parents asking a bunch of questions. Danielle's age is weird, but it'll provide more storyline opportunity than if they had made her younger than Jack.

Starr's best stories were when she was in that age range. GL also told solid stories in the 90s with kids in that age range.

I think they should have brought in a child Tea gave away for adoption BEFORE she met Todd. That would create a lot of conflict, because this was a part of Tea's life Todd knew nothing about.

Do you guys think Jack is the next to be SORAS'd by around next summer, or do you think they'll hold on to Carmen a la K&EA? I'm not saying that they should keep a sucky young actor (not that he's sucky) out of sentimentality, but I think that's one of OLTL's endearing little qualities, getting to watch kids grow up in their roles. I guess it kinda started with Erin Torpey, though she wasn't quite as young as the Aldersons.

Well Todd, you've got yourself a little dynasty, now dontcha? Todd Manning has FOUR children folks, four kiddies to keep him relevant for years to come. Thank God they haven't pulled this with Ryan over at AMC, but I'm not complaining, I actually like Todd when the writing is in his favor and I love the Lords, so...

We were watching a dvd the other day, and in one of the previews there was a movie TSJ stars in, it must have been from about ten years ago, younger, fuller faced, blonder...

Greenlee being barren is one reason he doesn't have more kids. Good thing, as something tells me her child would kill their parents at birth, like Thanos.

The writers have done so much to cause huge rifts between the Lords, then they don't follow up on it, so there's always some unspoken awkwardness in their scenes.

I wish they could bring Tina back, recast if necessary.

 I had almost forgotten that she's coming back.

You know, and I'm not threadjacking here, but I think it's sad that I find a convicted rapist more likeable than Ryan Lavery. I'm not minimizing Todd's dirty deeds, and believe me, he has annoyed the hell outta me plenty, but there's something to be said for personality... being annoyed by a character not based on what they've done, but purely on who they are/how they act. Some people just grate on your nerves and you can't quite put your finger on it.

Well, Todd doesn't go around screaming at people and flaring his nostrils in every scene, occasionally interspersed with angry whispering and bug-eyed stares of death. He also doesn't get storylines with such timeless dialogue as "They cut out the bad" and "I AM THAT MONSTER", although I might not want to give OLTL any ideas for the next sweeps period.

GL managed to do it with Susan on GL, she still loved her adoptive father Jim Lemay. They ignored all that, and took about 5 years off her age, when they brought her back as Daisy.

well they ended up killing Jim off and even before that killed his wife off so Harley didnt have an adoptive mother to deal with when it came to Susan.

They killed Jim off after a few years, but for the time he was there, he was seen as a loving father, and was remembered as that afterwards. There was no adoptive mother on the show but Susan did remember her and that was some conflict with Harley.

It was only when she returned, de-aged by about five years and with her birth name, that they forgot about her adoptive parents.

I hope they hold on to him. I think he's a good fit as Todd's son. His line delivery is a little stilted, I guess, but he's just a kid. There's plenty of time to master all that.

I dislike OLTL's penchant for hiring child actors and keeping them for the long haul. Not only is it tedious to watch them slowly grow up, but the audience tends to have a hard time accepting them in more mature situations as they age because the image/perception of the child they once were still lingers in their minds. Starr and Matthew both should have been SORAS'd with older actors years ago. I don't think any child actor on a soap should last longer than five years. I'm fine with the current Jack for the time being, but next year they should age him into his middle teens. Sam needs to be SORAS'd too. He was born a few months before Bree, but while she is like five or six, he's still being presented as about three years old and doesn't talk.

perhaps that can be explained as his growth and development beint stunted bc his psycho mother Margeret wasnt properly taking care of herself while she was pregnant
