Members DRW50
How convenient. The funding is there to help the hemopheliac stuffed pig that is AMC, I'm sure.
Members LeClerc
And I'm sure Nelson Branco is typing up his hissy fit for tommorrow's Suds Report as I write this. Thankfully OLTL looks fantastic as it is.
Members Ann_SS
I'm not surprised. I really never believed that ABC was going to make this investment in its only remaining NY based soap.
Members bellcurve
What the FRENCH, FRONS!?!ABC?! I'm not a OLTL fan by any means, but sh!t, a move to HD would greatly benefit that show, the ABC Daytime Lineup(Frons could tout to the press that his daytime lineup is the only one in HD), and it would get SOAPnet closer to launching an HD sister network. Members DavidsMuse
The new AMC studio is already equipped for HD, so ABCD doesn't need to spend more money. With the new OLTL studio, they do, and right now they don't have it!
Members jcar03
I can honestly not tell the difference.
Members Ann_SS
Shows in HD look a lot different from regular tv. You need both a HD signal and a HD tv and you have to reset your HD tv to pick up the HD signal.
Members Cheap21
Do you have an HDTV and do you watch HD shows from an HD channel? There is a VAST difference. I cant see how anyone cant tell bc its very noticeable once you look at them back to back
Members SFK
Well as long as AMC and GH don't get another feather in their caps before OLTL gets its HD. Always a bridesmaid...
Members MarkH
HD can also help with international sales. Note the big push that Freemantle and AgnesNixon.com are making for international sales of AMC. But not OLTL. Hmmmmmmm. I don't believe Soapnet will ever go HD...not until it is rebranded in a few years. No, that is incorrect. The Walt Disney Corporation has plenty of money to invest in plenty of things--even in a down economy. Disney CHOOSES not to invest in HD for OLTL. And that is, as NB has said, quite meaningful. Couple this with (1) not moving to LA, (2) NB's rumors, and (3) ABCD's clear non-denial of NB's rumors ("the only move that OLTL is making..."), and the writing is so clearly on the wall it is engraved hieroglyphic. Such a shame....
Members NorrthCafe
I just don't get it. Is there some wacked out business model I'm not aware of, one that makes the ragged treatment of OLTL acceptable? There was a thread posted somewhere on this board stating that OLTL is the most profitable ABC soap, and another thread that stated that OLTL was the big ratings winner on SoapNet. Why is there so little re-investment in this show? It's MAKING money. It's bringing in viewers. It's like living in some backwards universe. Members marceline
Yep. This is Divestment/Downsizing 101. My only question is why announce that it's not going HD? Who/what benefits from that?
Members Daphne
My personal theory is Frons is favoring AMC over OLTL because of Chuck Pratt. I think if someone else was headwriting for AMC, it'd be AMC that was the odd-soap out.
Members miajere
I always thought AMC was a favorite of Agnes Nixon as well. Is it possible she's giving some input on this matter as well?
