September 28, 200916 yr Member I know that this topic has come up before, but I thought it might be fun for posters to contribute to get a definitive list.We can include nightime and syndicated soaps also. We can add extra info if we have it. To get the ball rolling: Flamingo Road-NBC 1982 Proposed daytime spinoff of the cancelled primetime soap.It was stated that some members of the nightime show would continue their roles, but actual names not specified. House of Hope-NBC 1970. Spinoff of The Doctors, focussing on the characters of Steve and Carolee. Scruples-NBC 1983 Based on the successful book/mini series by Judith Krantz.Starring Susan Flannery, written by Pat Falken Smith, produced by Doris Quinlan. Edited July 21, 201114 yr by Paul Raven
September 28, 200916 yr Member I know of two proposed Days spin-offs: Pacific Lives-Was supposed to follow Tom Horton Jr. and his daughter Sandy as doctors in Hawaii. Manhattan Lives-Marlena and Roman spin-off set in NYC.
September 28, 200916 yr Member A lot of these I remember from Waggett's "Soap Opera Book of Lists"... HEART AND SOUL Claire Labine's proposed replacement for THE CITY, beat out by PORT CHARLES CELEBRATION Earlier from Labine (bellcurve just mentioned this in the Paul Rauch interview thread), her proposed replacement for CAPITOL GROSSE POINTE Paul Rauch's idea for a CAPITOL replacement CASINO A John Conboy glamour soap set in Las Vegas COMING OF AGE A Melrose Place/The City/"family of friends"-like serial for NBC from the Bells APARTMENT 3-G Actually, the creators of this one don't even know that it's been turned down yet as it's still "Later that same day..."
September 28, 200916 yr Member I remember a proposed spin-off of GH called "General Hospital West" in the early 80s that would find some of the GH doctors in an LA hospital. I also vaguely remember Megan McTavish discussing a bible for a new soap that she'd written in an interview. OK, it's coming back to me...I think the tentative title was "Greed." And although it's a prime time soap, Knots Landing was supposed to do a summer spin-off of the younger cast members, but it never happened.
September 28, 200916 yr Member I also vaguely remember Megan McTavish discussing a bible for a new soap that she'd written in an interview. I thought that was called "Purgatory"?
September 28, 200916 yr Member I thought that was called "Purgatory"? That's what I heard, too. And she was pilfering the storylines during her 2003-2007 stint at AMC from that bible. I'm inclined to believe it, because everyone on AMC was miserable and going through hell during those four years.
September 28, 200916 yr Member That's what I heard, too. And she was pilfering the storylines during her 2003-2007 stint at AMC from that bible. I'm inclined to believe it, because everyone on AMC was miserable and going through hell during those four years. I too heard it was titled, Purgatory. And it was speculated that she borrowed storylines from her bible and used them on All My Children. It was such a depressing show. Completely stygian.
September 28, 200916 yr Member Days has had many spin off talks. As said above Pacific Lives and Manhattan Lives. They also had talks of a Salem High spinoff, a few actually. One was to be on Sat Mornings in the style of saved by the bell pretty much and i think Passions has going to get one too. Another had the teenagers and jack and jen working at the paper or something like that. Then there was the talks of keeping the dead dead from the killer storyline and having them live on that damn island. I think there was some talk of Doug & Julie getting a spinoff too.
September 28, 200916 yr Author Member Days also proposed a comedy spin off 'Calliope' based around Arlene Sorkin's character. The GH spinoff was always referred to as 'Young Loves of General Hospital' . In an interview.Jackie Smith, then head of NBC daytime referred to 'Best of Friends' as being in development as a late morning soap, more light-hearted along the lines of Australia's 'Neighbours'.
September 28, 200916 yr Author Member Steve Frame had a great list on his SoapsWeb site. One I remember was 'Loyalties' starring movie/TV star Robert Cummings. This was around 1970.Following in the footsteps of Macdonald Carey on DOOL.Dana Andrews on Bright Promise and Joan Bennett on Dark Shadows by casting a Hollywood 'star'.
September 28, 200916 yr Member I believe that following the success of the mini-series "Hollywood Wives," ABC wanted to turn it into a weekly primetime soap, but Jackie Collins didn't consent to it, and so they listened to her because they didn't want to make the other Collins sister mad.

I've never heard of CASINO before but I've always wondered why no one ever tried making a serialized drama with Las Vegas as the setting. There are so many different elements for storylines using glamourous Las Vegas as the setting. Everything from the glitz and glamour to the crime and corruption of the city.
September 28, 200916 yr Member What a shame it is that all of these proposed soaps never got the green light. I personally believe that if they had, ratings today would have been much different as there would have been a serious influx of new dramas and new viewers.
