I was watching both DAYS and GH at the time, and losing DA as Susan Martin was a HUGE blow to DAYS. Her character was enormously popular, and always in the throes of major storylines. When the actress moved over to GH, Lesley Williams was just so...unfocused. It took them a long time to figure out what to do with her over there. TPTB often fail to realize that it is not just a performer, herself, who is popular, but rather a specific performer in a specific part. Paul Rauch fought to bring Janice Lynde over to AW, based on her popularity as Leslie Brooks on Y&R, but the problem was...Leslie Brooks was a multi-dimensional character in well-written storylines. Her AW was not. Neither was her OLTL character. Lynde never achieved the popularity anywhere else that she had had on Y&R, because the writing for her other characters just wasn't there.

OMG. You are so right. She could've been the perfect Meg recast.

I'm pretty sure even though Denise Alexander languished on GH till Marland's arrival, she still had better stories than what SB was given on B&B and DAYS. She was basically brought on B&B to be Bridget's incubator, who lusted after washed up Jack Wagner. If used correctly, SB would've been the perfect vixen the show needed at the time to rival the likes of KKL, Heather Tom, and Hunter Tylo.

On DAYS, she was fire opposite Lauren Koslow, and it seemed like the show was gonna give Kate a new female rival. DAYS squashed that quickly by having her do nothing but be Brady's bedmate and putting poor Madison Ian Buchanan's dud character. I wish this show had the good sense of putting Madison with Lucas, thus causing Kate to fume over her business rival bedding her son, but of course they didn't do that.

Dumb question, the Brent/Marion story... the audience is supposed to realize that Marion is actually Brent in disguise right? Obviously the characters don't realize it, but viewers were supposed to right? I am so curious how someone watching that story without knowing how it will go would have reacted.

Aggh did you need to remind me of Buzz and his snot! Justin Deas was a thorn in my GL watching time.(I swear he was on just to chase me away) up until the very end when they threw him into Van and Billy's wedding!!!

Disagree on the only "intact" family being the Coopers.  They had the Marlers there the whole time and Ross and Blake were the only couple I can remember having three kids produced in the same relationship (non withstanding the oddity of thinking that one of the boys was Rick's and that Christina was born and her parents were seperated.)  With the addition of Dinah and bringing in Roger's son (it wouldnt have been Sebastian in my world but...) you have a family unit with a matriach and patriarch with teenagers and all their angst, with adult trouble makers involved and the addition of appearences of sarcastic Grandma Holly.  If I were head writer I would have had Rick move into the lighthouse after he divorces Mel (they never worked, and with no Bauers around Rick worked best as a supporting actor like Frank) and Ross and Blake move into the Bauer house (the set was there, Blake basically grew up a Bauer tho the writers ignored it) and center the show around them as the core family. I thought LK would find her stride as a saucy sexy earth mother, and of course Ross had authentic ties to EVERYONE on the canvas, as opposed to Buzz being shoved into relationships as in being Alan's antagonist etc.  It would be nice to see a committed married couple who still liked to hit the sheets.  The recurring joke would be the Marlers kids being embarrassed by their parents "affectionate" relationship.

I don't remember, how was Holly responsible for Jenna's death? I didn't care as each time I saw her Buzzard was in tow and I cant forget those months we had of her over a vat of skin cream that was an actual freakin' storyline!

I liked Edmund and thought DAM was damn sexy, but never could accept a murderous psycho as a villain. His intro on the show was trying to kill a baby for God's sake!  However, I would have made him Jonathon's father.. I don't know how I would do it as how could Reva forget that..though I could see her tieing one on and having it off with Eddie and forgetting it...I mean, who wouldnt want to get it with Eddie being married to Richard the Dull?I just did not see he and Cassie together especially since they made him so bland.  I think LW works best as a brittle shrew so I woulda had Cassie gone "bad" and embarked on a sick sexual relationship with Eddie..do not tell me the girl did not pull tricks when she got off that stripper pole...she was straight out trailer trash and that version I could have liked.

I actually liked Beth and Coop, he was so boring but he perked up and their relationship was kind of sexy. It was nice to see a couple just having sex who liked each other but were not some great Twu Wuv...and really, who would not hit Beth she was looking great!

It's what I said earlier. Had Jenna just told the truth from the start and fought Jeffery off with Buzz, the Coopers, and even Vanessa's (who was like a surrogate sister) help, it wouldn't've ended badly, but that's Jenna for you. She did have poor taste in men.

    • Reviewing the 1985/86 sophomore slaughtering and sophomore surprise. The Cosby Show 23 of 25 episodes finished #1 in their original broadcast, one episode finished 2nd, and one episode finished 3rd. Murder, She Wrote 18 of 22 episodes were the highest-rated drama in their original broadcast and 19 of 22 episodes were CBS's highest-rated scripted series in their original broadcast.
    • I really enjoy Tracy and Jason together as well in scenes. I’m a sucker for the surviving older Quartermaines, it’s just crazy that it took this long for a producer to tell Steve Burton we don’t care what you want, you’re a Quartermaine, get the [!@#$%^&*] over it. Murders actually solved in Port Charles? Hell no. The people in town don’t care so we’re not supposed to. God if they did this to usher Sonny off it would be the best episode of GH I’ve ever seen. I’d never complain again. I will never stop trying to get that 10% out of you It was so so good. There was so much promise. New old writers came back in and immediately said f.uck that, Sonny is a hero. You are not alone when it comes to Harper as Jordan. It’s a lonely island of 2 but you’re not alone. I enjoy her and especially with the new doctor.   Most of his time on this damn show has just been him in a hospital bed over a football injury we never even saw happen .
    • The casting of Reginald seemed to have been part of the reason for a lack of exploration of vulnerability in the character. I know Mary talked about not liking the change in Reg, but her disappointment was rarely explored once she left him.  For example, did she ever question if Reg was conning her in Paraguay, or was the Bay City version of Reg real? Imagine running a philanthropic center in Paraguay, and then becoming a social worker in Bay City?  It must have been so frustrating to once be able to provide anything that anyone needed, and now having to rely on government funded programs. And lastly, she went from a house full of servants, to living over a restaurant.  We were supposed to believe that she was so blinded by her love for Vince and the kids, that she never longed for her life when someone else washed her lingerie?
    • This was an excellent "filler" episode but I'd prefer to refer to it as a character building episode. I love that BTG is paced in a way that they can have episodes like this as opposed to the repetitive nature of the other soaps which don't leave room for this. The highlight for me was Eva with Martin's family. They've talked so much about her doing hair and I was so excited to finally get to see that in action. I thought the tension with Samantha was nice since she is a Dupree woman. I also love that Martin is trying to help Eva feel welcomed. I struggled a bit with Martin but he really shines when put across Eva, Kat and his grandparents. He definitely gets my vote for most improved. I also loved the scenes with Dani, Nicole and Andre. I love that Nicole clocked them so easily lol. I know many haven't enjoyed how Dani has acted since the Ted/Eva reveal but I find it so heartwarming watching her with Nicole. They clearly have a deep love for each other despite their differences and I love that Dani still tries even though her approach isn't always great and her whole life is a mess. Nicole/Dani is another one of the star pairs on the show. Anita and Vernon's scenes were excellent and the more I see of this story, the more I can't wait for the Articulettes to show up. I wonder if they've already been quietly cast and are filming. Not that I'm complaining, but the set is like Fort Knox so we really have no clue what is going on there. I can only hope we will see them soon. I also must say, Tamara Tunie looked stunning today.  The Jacob/Naomi scenes were another highlight. I like the working class vibe they give to the show. I'm also becoming intrigued about June and want to know more about how she ended up on the streets and who she's connected to. I hope it's Haley because she's in dire need of some backstory and development. The weak point of the episode were the Bill and Haley scenes. How are you going to have them having sex on his desk and we couldn't see a little bra or shirtless action from Bill? That was tired and a waste of time. They need to work on integrating them more with the rest of the canvas. I do not care about them anymore.
    • I always thought the cliffhanger was so anticlimactic, compared to the Dallas cliffhanger that year and three years earlier Kirby strangled Alexis, which Blake stopped. The Matthew cliffhanger was dull as hell.
    • Setting aside a general distaste for the story -- I was sitting here wondering how long Erica's doppelgänger Jane story lasted?  Also, how did it begin?  What was the setup for Erica to have a double?
    • Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.   DA's passing truly saddened me. More than many of the recent passings. I was holding out hope we'd get one more visit  before she passed.

    • Made even dumber with that Blake/Alexis chokehold, followed by the following season when Matthew resurfaced. WTF? There’s good reason I have skipped from Season 5 straight to Season 9 on a couple of my Dynasty rewatches lol. And Chase was supposed to die, but somehow they talked Foxworth back into one more season. They probably shouldn’t have at all.
    • Philip, like Reva, were characters that should have remained in the 80s and never been bought back to the soap.
    • I was just going through the vault and watching some random episodes from 2001, then 2006. Sigh. What a different show it was back then. It makes me so sad that it’s barely a shell of its former self. It was always so multigenerational. There were compelling stories for all generations without having to sacrifice anything to make it work.
