Does Reva even have a job in 1998? I believe her next job is her stint as a tv host? I remember she was advocating for the underprivileged like Ruth and later Catalina.

She's presumed dead for part of the year, and the rest she isn't working, IIRC.

From what she recently just mentioned in early 1999, she's a shareholder for Lewis, so she dabbles in "meetings" and "decisions" here and there. Which is convenient I guess haha. She's just as busy at Lewis as crazy Dinah is running WSPR right now.

This is around the time Y&R had Nikki become a businesswoman too. I guess with characters they were starting to run out of ideas for this was an easy way out. Luckily, they never go too far with Reva to where she is running a company.

Yay, I can't wait to keep watching! :)

So I haven't seen any indications of Phillip and India interacting much at all, so not sure how I would feel about that coupling. I'm just fine with Phillip and Harley for now, they're cute enough.

Cassie and Hart - that's a hard one for me. I truly do think Dinah and Hart belong together, but the As much as @P.J. will hate to hear this (haha), I do find Blake and Ben to be steamy. It's like a forbidden love that could be dangerous, which is fun to watch.

Oh and I'm sad to say this, but with the Michelle recast, it just isn't the same for me anymore with Jesse/Michelle. Lenz is a great actress, but the chemistry/vibe just isn't there any it's clear they're putting Danny/Michelle together. But I really did love the Jesse/Michelle love story in those first 18 months.

My eyes, my eyes! I just can't stand Hunt Block. And I had to cringe through plenty of Hunt Block's making out technique on ATWT.

I'm not sure I've ever witnessed a recast where the new person had a good chemistry with their love interest. Whatever Tom/Margo on ATWT had withered through the multiple recasts. It's probably why I was more of a Phillip/Harley fan than a Phillip/Beth fan with Beth Chamberlain in the role.

Another example of the insane soap tradition of naming kids after someone else in the story. Did Hart even like his father? Who names their kid after their brother-in-law?

That some weasely writer ignored a boatload of history and foisted a brat on some insignificant notShayne instead of giving us a grandchild of Chamberlain/Marler and Thorpe lineage is a crime.

Who names a child after their brother in law? An ex-stripper who doesn't know her own daddy.

Reva hadn't worked since 1985. And even then, I doubt she did anything. All she ever knew was how to cash checks.

This is also the point where Reva gets very annoying and becomes Springfield's biggest Karen! Why does Frank bring Jeva to barge in on the Spaulding party? Why does he let them watch as the safe is searched? I just remember this time with Kimmer in those bad beige pantsuits that Reva would never wear, with a perpetual scowl on her face and yelling.

There's a point where I think Kim was just sick of everything. I don't know if Watros winning that emmy got under skin, or the writing, or just realizing she was back where she started and not going anywhere.

I never thought Kim looked good in short hair. And it really didn't fit Reva's character.

LOL - fair point on the bold part. I'm learning something new now, you're not a Cassie fan either haha :)

It's interesting to hypothesize... I did recently learn and posted about Signy saying Kim was horrible to her, so I wonder if that had something to do with it... either Kim just wasn't in a good spot in life during this time or she just didn't like Signy and her personal disdain was coming through the screen. I don't think it was the Watros win, because you can see her standing up and cheering big time when Watros won, but I suppose that could have been alcohol or adrenaline, or just the fact that someone from GL won, but then she later thought and stewed about it haha.

Maybe it was all the bad press/critiques about the cloning storyline that she just came off of haha.

I was okay with Cassie (and Laura Wright was certainly better than Nicole Forester), but simply being Reva's bastard sister isn't exactly a great tie to Guiding Light's history. Although I know this fictional child is part Thorpe, Hart didn't claim that name, and I have no clue what last name RJ was given.

Maybe it was something other than Watros' win....but I think it's possible to cheer for someone getting recognition for your show and realizing at some point down the road that you're not getting the same type of praise you did before they came along. Kim had been the big dog on the block (while not the only award winner on the show, but it's biggest) for so long, she never really had to deal with not having that spotlight.

Tom and Margo are a confused case as I thought Scott Holmes had no chemistry with Hilary Bailey Smith but did with Ellen Dolan (until the late '90s when both became unwatchable).

I'm sure some recasts have had good chemistry with the love interest they are brought in for, but the list is short.

At the time, I did not have any rooting interest with Philip and either lady because I thought Philip was sanctimonious and dull and I still had some residual fond memories of Harley. Beth I barely knew so just saw this woman throwing herself into any available bed and having breakdowns.

As time passed, I realized Beth Ehlers did not have chemistry with anyone anymore and was just cold to watch. I thought Beth Chamberlin had chemistry with a number of men, but I still didn't care about Beth, as she was clearly a plot device and a bed warmer.

If I step back, I do think Beth Chamberlin and Grant Aleksander had chemistry. I just didn't give a damn.

I do think Kimmer was at a bad place here..she knew that Reva was tangential to the story, and that Annie..or the Clone..or the island, whatever. was going to drive it not Reva anymore. She got burned by Hollywood and not getting a good role (which I think she would have been great in a sitcom) and she was in her 40s stuck in a soap..inferior material, but still on everyday and realizing what became of other women over 40s in soap, you are either a mother/grandmother or you are nothing. Funny, she loved Rauch and her worst material was under him, but then, she was on everyday.

Kimmer is an actress, with a huge ego..so you think she would allow the camera to not focus on her standing there clapping (plus I am sure she actually was clapping for another actor winning something) and her being..."mean" to younger women goes back years...on the Shayne reunion on the Locher Room Kriste, who has no shits to give or is too ..flaky..now to care...said, "Oh, I know how mean you were to me when I first came on Kim Zimmer" but in a way, where they eventually became friends. I remember interviews during this time when she was complaining that now there were 6 characters during that time that were doing Reva things...(Jenna, Blake, Dinah...who knows who else) so she was grasping for relevance at this time.

I'm sure some must have...I just can't think of one on a show I watched. Some would probably say Liz Keifer taking over the role of Blake and Blake/Ross but I'm not sure I ever could've bought SS's Blake and Ross as a couple. Hot in bed, sure.

I just loved Grant. He almost managed to make Crystal Chappel rootable for me.

Hell...even Vanessa's coming back from the dead and not giving two F's about what people say about having a boytoy. And little Michelle is getting all kinds of angst and hooking up with powerful guys and getting a MIL from hell.

Hold on...after she and Josh broke up after Marah was born, circa 1986-87, she 1) "worked" as a photographer and 2) became Alan's "assistant."

I don't think I need to explain the quotes, LOL.

Did they EVER mention her photography again?

They kind of did the same thing with Harley, where she was a supposedly an ambitious fledgling fashion designer. That got dropped and then she became a cop--a totally believable employment trajectory. 😂 But at least Harley had identifiable employment.

He ended up being RJ Winslow. I guess Richard adopted him.

Liz has talked about how hard a time she had being accepted by the fans after Stringfield left.

I thought she was fine, but fans loved Stringfield. But I don't know how anyone could have believed, even at the time, that she was going to stay on a soap opera for more than a couple of years.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Victoria Wyndham, who took over for Robin Strasser as Rachel on AW. She and George Reinholt had serious chemistry. But then Harding Lemay decided he didn't like him and killed him off. But Wyndham then had lots of chemistry with Doug Watson. In fact, she had chemistry with pretty much everyone they put her with.

Trying really hard to think of another example and I just can't.

I was hesitant to name those I had never actually seen as they started their roles so thank you for sharing some.

I might also say Barbara Rodell, as she seemed to be very popular with Don Stewart, but I didn't want to as I've only ever seen bits of her in the part.
