I get to play the chair??(I will refrain from a "sitting on" you joke.)

A great time on the show..it was all coming together..the climax of Sonni/Solita...and Roger's return along with Holly.  I wish they had made the "FBI guy"  Mike Bauer and the triangle be with Mike/Alex/Roger not boring and once again shoe horned Fletcher. Nadine's talk show was a waste of time filler. I forgot how cheesy Rusty was..who calls their sister "beautiful"???

The show tying up storylines...Rick/Phillip/Beth..and soon Josh leaving town. I wish the soaps had done more of that later...Manny should have been written off and allowed to "rest" instead of constant Mob drama...etc. Mentions of the Matt Weiss character (so this is end of Long's tenure) and yes, Mallet and Mindy had great chemistry..and we could have avoided Nick yelling at both Mindy and Alex for years on end it seemed.  Rick and Abby should have taken the place of Ed and Mo..not a glamorous or exciting function, that of tentpoles but one GL needed.

I often think Mindy/Mallet was more of a Pam Long idea than a Curlee idea.  Long seemed more into the opposite attracts trope...imho

Watching the May 1989 episode..it's incredibly well balanced catering to the Jeva fans, the Spaulding fans, and even long time fans with roger/holly.....and the WSPR interplays started in 1989 with Holly/Nadine/Gilly.  I think Nadine had only been on a few months at that point...so I think the writers and Jean Carol were figuring out Nadine.  I think she was dating Ross at this point and scheming with Alan.

Yea, I am suprised that Gilly was created under Long and the WSPR stuff started then. I always liked the machinations there...unlike Spaulding characters were all vying for things but weren't cuthroat about it (well besides Roger.) I hate that Nadine was killed, I wanted a Nadine/Nola rivalry eventual friendship ala Absolutely Fabulous with them a Greek Chorus on the going ons  in Springfield...(Josh and Reva getting married again.. I am NOT buying them another toaster!")

I was hoping all during the spring/summer of 1989 that they were going to bring Mike Bauer back for Roger's return storyline. Phillip even called Mike at one point to discuss Roger (and it was hilarious, as Phillip asked Mike on the phone if Mike remembered him...).

I agree - Mike Bauer should have been the one who rescued Alex from the island (because he was in pursuit of "Adam Malek"), and essentially taking Fletch out of the equation, altogether. Then, when Roger was revealed, there would have been one more Bauer who had an axe to grind with Roger. I personally would have been fine with a Mike Bauer recast, since the character had been away from our screens for 5 years at that point.

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him when FV clearly took a shine to him. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field with both with very different people. Then maybe put them back together, who knows.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
